Coming this August is a two-volume celebration of this much-loved storyteller, collecting ten of Terrance Dicks’ best Doctor Who novels, as chosen by fans.
Volume One contains, complete and unabridged:
- Doctor Who and the Dalek Invasion of Earth
- Doctor Who and the Abominable Snowmen
- Doctor Who and the Wheel in Space
- Doctor Who and the Auton Invasion
- Doctor Who and the Day of the Daleks
About the Author:
Terrance Dicks became Script Editor of Doctor Who in 1968, co-writing Patrick Troughton’s classic final serial, The War Games, and editing the show throughout the entire Jon Pertwee era to 1974. He wrote many iconic episodes and serials for the show after, including Tom Baker’s first episode as the Fourth Doctor, Robot; Horror at Fang Rock in 1977; State of Decay in 1980; and the 20th anniversary special, The Five Doctors in 1983.
Terrance novelised over sixty of the original Doctor Who stories for Target books, including classics like Doctor Who and the Abominable Snowmen and Doctor Who and the Auton Invasion, inspiring a generation of children to become readers and writers. He died in August 2019, only weeks before the publication of his final Doctor Who short story, ‘Save Yourself’, in The Target Storybook.

August 25th, 2021 - 1:37pmIt’s arrived. And it is a lovely thing to have, especially wheel in space as mine is beginning to wear out. It is not as originally mentioned on announcement of the online poll terribly lavish. I’m not complaining though. It’s still fantastic to have. There are no illustrations in the three that originally had them but again it’s fine. Even if you pay full price £5 a book is great value. The more I look at vol 1 on the shelves I think how lovely it would be if they did similar omnibus editions for the seasons. You could get most of them in single volumes with only possibly the first and second having to be split over two volumes. Well… I can dream…

August 25th, 2021 - 2:50pmFirst and second doctors I mean. With them being 8, 9, 10, 9, 7 and 7 for the six seasons. However, wheel in space was originally 143 pages, but it started on page 7 so 137 pages really. In this omnibus its 101 pages so it may be possible to get most seasons in a single volume. I know it won’t happen but it would be lovely.

March 25th, 2021 - 12:51pmIt would be great if Forbidden Planet could arrange for these to be available as “signed” copies like other Target reprints.
Presumably it would need the permission of Terrance Dicks’ Estate but it should be easy enough to affix bookplates with a facsimile of Terrance’s Autograph if the estate allowed it to be done and received a payment. I am sure Forbidden Planet would sell more copies.

The whole point of having a book signed is for the actual authors signature.
That’s where all the value lays also.
On the secondary market, Facsimiles never go for much money or rise in value overtime.

March 27th, 2021 - 12:12pmHi coleman. I agree completely that facsimile signatures are not really a signed book/item. My thing is that i buy signed books for me not to sell on. There is an American author i like that i now refuse to buy as he only sells his books via his website at extortionate prices (£50-70+) in hardback. He says buy multiple signed copies and sell them on ebay and make money. But think about that. This author is telling fans to rip off fans who either can’t buy books direct from America or who can’t afford the prices. Or who missed the release. He then expects those fans to pay even more for the privilege of having his books!
I have the alex kingston book ordered signed and that will be great but I’d never consider selling it. One of the most treasured signed books in my collection is mary tamm’s first autobiography. Will never sell it. Its not about profit for me. For me it’s having those signed books on my shelves

Glad you managed to get A book signed by Mary Tamm. She’s also a favourite of mine.
I’ve got a few signed 1st day stamp covers of hers I bought from a shop called Sci_fi collector, i think it’s in the Strand in London.
To be fair I’ve alot of signed Dr Who 1st day covers from them In a binder.
Was trying to find it awhile ago to take a few photos to put on this site but I seem to have mislaid it.
Hope it turns up one day.

His latest plan is to do a special edition version of a book that should be out in 2023 for around £20 for £46-50 not including postage to the UK. It’s his reward to his loyal fans. Alongside encouraging those in American who can get the books without incurring huge shipping costs to purchase extra copies to sell at even higher prices on Ebay. I guess some of fans aren’t loyal enough for him!

Wheel in Space inclusion is superb for those who never got either paper back or Hardback. which is very expensive
even after all these years. Even the Target commands £50+

March 25th, 2021 - 11:06amI was disappointed by the cover designs but have to say the spine design makes up for it! Wheel in space, horror and five doctors are books i need to replace as the originals are getting very worn now (not that I’ll get rid of the original paperbacks but it will be nice to read them without worrying that they will fall apart!) These are great value at just £5 per book.

January 13th, 2021 - 1:11amJust reread world game last year, great fun. No, these are meant to be 10 target books, voted for in late 2019 for publication in 2020, delayed fir obvious reasons!
The ten books were I believe:
– The Five Doctors
– The Auton Invasion
– The Genesis of the Daleks
– The Abominable Snowmen
– The Wheel in Space
– Dalek Invasion of Earth
– The Pyramids of Mars
– The Horror of Fang Rock
-The Talons of Weng-Chiang
– The Day of the Daleks
It was a shame those who voted picked 4 that had been reprinted but I’m happy with the others. And at £25 each it makes the individual books a £5 which is decent. One way to think of the costs is the new reprints at £8 each making the £4 reprints at roughly £2 each.
