It will be available to download from the BBC store at the end of December. The Colour version will also be available on a special blu-ray in February 2017

I hope the DVD does too.

November 4th, 2016 - 8:48pmI feel like I was too harsh on this. My wallet will heal.I properly will get the steel book. Sorry and thank you BBC

November 4th, 2016 - 12:51pmI just bought some other stories with animation to fill the gaps, I was wondering have I missed any.
The reign of terror (excellent)
The tenth planet
moonbase, (brilliant)
The invasion
Danny
November 4th, 2016 - 1:17pmThe Ice Warriors and The Web of Fear are good buys. You should also consider The Underwater Menace with this being the most recent animated story before The Power of the Daleks is released. Hope this helps 🙂
Simeon
November 4th, 2016 - 1:18pmThe Ice Warriors 🙂
Simeon
November 4th, 2016 - 1:19pm(Neither ‘Web of Fear’ or ‘Underwater Menace’ were animated mind. Reconstructed with stills 🙂 )

November 4th, 2016 - 2:00amSorry but this really gets me a bit annoyed…I will not upgrade to blu-ray and it feels like another cash grab to release a color version separately…why couldn’t they have provided both versions on the DVD release? I would’ve been interested in viewing this in color…but as a few have said the B/W is more authentic anyway…still annoyed though >:(
Gordon
November 4th, 2016 - 3:21amIt would never have been ready for the Christmas period. That’s why it’s not on there
prototype dalek
November 4th, 2016 - 8:52amI’m sure they will release the colour version eventually on DVD as a lot of people still don’t use Blu-ray or the online store.
Tim M
November 4th, 2016 - 9:59amYou better hope Phil Morris doesn’t find all 16mm prints of ‘The Power of the Daleks’…Otherwise that will mean yet another release! 🙂
WHOdr.
November 4th, 2016 - 11:34amTim M – I would happy buy a second release for the chance to own the actual story in it’s original, complete form. Just not sure about buying a second Power of the Daleks to own it in color…but hey I’m happy, at least I’m getting A copy of it and it looks great in both b/w and color, so it’s all good I guess *shrugs*
The Outcast
November 4th, 2016 - 11:37amI hope the BBC find every missing Episode, that way we can watch ever story with all the original acting. 🙂
Tim M
November 4th, 2016 - 11:48amI would still choose the black and white version over the colour version when choosing to watch the story. It is more in keeping with what was originally presented to the audience. Plus, whilst the Daleks will look fine in colour, I’m not sure the skin colour of the Doctor, companions and inhabitants of Vulcan will look that good. You don’t have that issue with black and white…and surely,’Power of the Daleks’ is more atmospheric in black and white anyway.
Dr RevWho
November 4th, 2016 - 4:08pmImagine if Patrick Troughton had gone for his original idea for his portrayal of the Doctor – I’d imagine the colour version would be even more controversial!
(For those who don’t know, he was originally going to do it in blackface!)
Peter
November 3rd, 2016 - 11:47pmI’m fine with b/w. It’s part of the charm.
Dr RevWho
November 4th, 2016 - 12:06amThe B/W is still available (even on the blu-ray with the colour version). The colour version is something of a novelty, I guess.
Tim M
November 4th, 2016 - 11:55amAgreed Peter. I’m having second thoughts about buying it on Blu-Ray. My choice of preference would be watching in black and white anyway.
mark Belsom
November 3rd, 2016 - 10:51pmI’ll buy both,can’t help it.
Tim M
November 3rd, 2016 - 11:47pmNeither can I. ‘The Power of the Daleks’ is so good, I’ll buy it twice. On DVD and Blu-Ray.

November 3rd, 2016 - 9:41pmYeah. I’m excited

November 3rd, 2016 - 9:40pmWow…. can’t believe all the complaining going on in the comment section on there Facebook. I’m really amazed at how much the Doctor Who fandom has started to complain and whine when things don’t go there way. Be happy we’re getting this at all. I’m so happy. Whether it’s on Blu ray or DVD I’m just happy to get it. Can’t we just be happy for once?

November 4th, 2016 - 8:38amAgreed…. cmon fans… this is exciting. Let’s not complain and be happy we have this!!! I’m sure there will be a way to get any version you want eventually.
I’m ecstatic that we have this

November 3rd, 2016 - 9:30pmLook’s like it will be best to cancel my UK DVD purchase & just wait & order it (With the Colour version) from Barnes & Noble in Jan 2017. Good old BBC!
TheClassicsAreAce
November 3rd, 2016 - 8:29pmInteresting… I may get the colour Blu-Ray but I don’t really see the point of doing a separate colour version and not releasing it alongside the black and white version on DVD. I’m not sure if I want the colour version
Daz
November 3rd, 2016 - 8:27pmI will get both like i did with spearhead from space. But i just put the disc in the dvd case so the collection looks tidier. Already got all the missing episode cds in dvd cases in order too.

November 3rd, 2016 - 8:01pmThis is a horrible situation! I need the DVD to fill in the gaps but really want the colour version! I wish they just released that on DVD rather than on Blu-Ray like in the US!
The Dalek Whovian
November 3rd, 2016 - 8:06pmAgreed. If only the BBC had warned us that this would happen
Gordon
November 3rd, 2016 - 9:35pmAs it hasn’t been released yet they have warned us
Grant
November 3rd, 2016 - 7:59pmWell it’s all a bit unfair if you don’t have a blu ray player eh! I love my blu rays so I’ll be getting it in December but sorry to all UK fans who only buy dvd, it’s just not on is it. Reminds me of Adventure in Space and Time, only blu ray release the UK got was in the 50th box set which is now expensive to get, while the US had an individual release. Then we have the nightmare of Underwater Menace only containing 2 actual episodes and 2 telesnap garbage. BBC Worldwide are making a lot of odd choices lately.
Grant
November 3rd, 2016 - 8:04pmGetting it in February*
Stewart
November 3rd, 2016 - 7:54pmMore than happy to wait for the colour on the blu ray version. But my collection will be incompleted without the dvd – oh dilema
Tim M
November 3rd, 2016 - 8:03pmBuy both. As the DVD has a reverse cover, that will fit in nicely with the current classic series collection. Then buy the Blu-Ray, and just put that with any of your Blu-Ray collection, Doctor Who or not. That’s what I will do. For example, my ‘Spearhead from Space’ Blu-Ray is on the same shelf as James Bond ‘Casino Royale’ and the movie ‘Gravity’!

November 3rd, 2016 - 7:46pmIs the colour version not being released on DVD?
Tim M
November 3rd, 2016 - 7:57pmNo.
CaptainJimiPie
November 3rd, 2016 - 7:40pmI have to say as much as I’m looking forward to this, not giving the UK fans the colour versions on the normal DVD is a bit of a disappointment.
I mean as someone whose living abroad here’s my situation if I want to see the colour one.
. Travel back to the UK to download the colour version on BBC Store
. Buy the blu-ray version which means it will be the only blu-ray DVD I own and thus fairly pointless
. Buy the American DVD release to have the colour version but I also have to buy a multi-regional DVD player in order to play it, again the only non-region 2 DVD I own.
To be honest I would have been perfectly happy to wait until 2018 if it meant also getting the colour version on the DVD release.

November 3rd, 2016 - 7:44pmI CAN’T WAIT.
The Dalek Whovian
November 3rd, 2016 - 7:38pmAs awsome as this sounds it would have been nice if the BBC gave a warning of this before the DVD when up for pre order. Now a lot of people are going to cancel their pre orders. I know I sound negative but trust me this is amazing news
Tim M
November 3rd, 2016 - 7:32pmThe BBC should really consider televising the colour version of ‘The Power of the Daleks’. After they have made enough money from the sale of it of course.
DoctorFan
November 3rd, 2016 - 7:22pmI want this but it won’t fit in with my classic dvd’s
CaptainJimiPie
November 3rd, 2016 - 7:34pmYou know the cover is reversible to match the existing classic DVD cover styles right?
Tim M
November 3rd, 2016 - 7:16pmIt does leave the question though…If anymore stories are animated, will they also do those in colour too. Fans may well expect that scenario from now on.
DOCTORWHOFAN1
November 3rd, 2016 - 7:12pmBooboo, will this be on standard DVD?
booboo
November 3rd, 2016 - 7:14pmi don’t think so
Tim M
November 3rd, 2016 - 6:58pmSo, I will download from BBC Store first, then purchase the DVD, then download it in colour, then buy the Blu-Ray in colour. BBC, you are spoiling us…and leaving us skint!
Phil
November 3rd, 2016 - 7:04pmYou haven’t purchased it yet. Just purchase the better version once.
Tim M
November 3rd, 2016 - 7:13pmYou’re right Phil…I will buy and download from BBC Store, then I will purchase the DVD(it’s pre-ordered anyway), then I will purchase the colour version on Blu-Ray. So, I will only purchase 3 out of 4. 🙂

November 3rd, 2016 - 6:55pmMight cancel dvd version and want for blu ray, fantastic,

November 4th, 2016 - 5:43pmClassic range is all Dvd, so your cases won’t match if you cancel it.

November 3rd, 2016 - 7:05pmNot milking it, just purchase the one you prefer. The special bluray should contain both b&w plus colour

November 3rd, 2016 - 9:19pmGreat if you have a Bluray player (I don’t & I don’t want one either) just another cheap trick by the current market to force you to upgrade from DVD to Bluray. Saw through this con awhile back!
Phil
November 3rd, 2016 - 9:36pmDear anonymous, I own a Blu-ray player and can tell you that ALL of your DVD collection will look significantly better played in a bluray player. Also Blu-ray discs look better than DVDS assuming you have an HD Television. And My 4k looks insanely awsome on the 4k television.
Gordon
November 3rd, 2016 - 9:38pmBut If you want better p.q it’s worth upgrading. It’s no con.
Anonymous
November 4th, 2016 - 12:27amI think you missed the point. DVD is perfectly fine – Why should I then go out & purchase several hundred blurays again? They are constantly pushing the failed bluray line because most people refused to fork out again for the same discs or buy a bluray player. Let alone pay double the price for what a DVD costs (Which is more than expensive enough for what it is) The most recent con I’ve seen is where you just get either a vanilla DVD disc with just the film on or with a couple of Special Features. All the good stuff for Special Features is only released on the bluray. Talk about desperate to grasp a few more pennies & push their agenda.
Gordon
November 4th, 2016 - 3:32amIts not fine if the DVD is inferior to the blu Ray picture quality. If you want the best DVD is not perfectly fine! Blu rays are hardly double the cost of the DVDs. At most about 5 quid more maybe a bit more if it’s a box set. A lot of DVDs don’t get extras any more as the extras are recorded in hd.
Anonymous
November 4th, 2016 - 7:26amGood excuses for you but when I said DVD is fine, I meant DVD quality is fine for me. You’ve admitted bluray is more expensive & it’s hogwash that extras are recorded in hd. They just transfer them from the Special Edition, Gold, Platinum, Collector’s, Anniversary, Diamond, Ultimate or whatever rip-off edition they are selling on DVD (Another peeve) Do we really need 10 versions of the same DVD? It’s a purely marketing excercise to maximize as much dosh as possible. From what I’m reading plenty of other people aren’t happy either.
Gordon
November 4th, 2016 - 8:44amIf its fine for you that’s ok. But not everyone settles for fine. Yes blu Ray is more expensive but it’s hardly double the price which you suggest. I’m referring to films that are made in 2016 that have its extras filmed in hd and not had any extras on the DVD not DVDs that have had multiple releases that you can get extras on them anyway. If you don’t want to upgrade to blu Ray that’s fine. Your not forced into buying any of the releases but why should people that want these blu Rays of these titles be deprived of these releases just because you think it’s a con and the DVD is fine? No they shouldn’t. If you want to just buy the DVD it’s ok. If you want the blu Ray it’s also fine. Isn’t having the option bliss?
Anonymous
November 4th, 2016 - 12:02pmAgain, your missing the point. It’s a deliberate policy by the industry to get people buying the same product again. Don’t bother with the DVD folks buy this more expensive bluray version with all the features on. It’s not an option its is a con to extract further cash from buyers. It’s all about double-dipping & it’s incredibly tiresome. If they released both versions of DVD & bluray together with exactly the same product then fine but they don’t & there is a reason for that.
Gordon
November 4th, 2016 - 12:42pmif people want to buy more than 1 copy it’s their own choice. Nobody is being forced to buy it more than once. The reason is that it would never have been ready for the Christmas market if they waited till the colour version was done.
Anonymous
November 4th, 2016 - 1:54pmChristmas started in September (A bit like Halloween for a month) jam in the 5th. November & then Sales/Easter in January nothing to do with commercialisation or greed or anything of course.
