New Doctor Who Character Building Sets

Having seen this range first hand we can confidently say that its one of the best things Character have done in the Doctor Who line. Initially there will be some small construction and figure sets with (considerably) larger sets due later in the year. “older” fans have not been forgotten either with another 11 Doctors set. You’ll also be able to mix and match the Doctor Who range with the H.M. Armed Forces construction toys creating even more fun.

The popular collectors lists pages will be updated shortly to include these sets and figures.

From the BBC Press Office

characterbuildsBBC Worldwide is delighted to announce a major new deal with Character Options’ new Construction division which will see Doctor Who enter the construction toy market for the first time.

The Character Building range will include 3D micro-figures, brought to life with sculpted facial features whilst play sets will be uniquely tailored to Doctor Who.

Fans will be able to build their own Doctor Who world with all their favourite characters including the Doctor and Amy Pond with their famous foes the Daleks, Cybermen and Weeping Angels.

Distinctive to the Character Building range will be the use of texture on some of the building blocks, whether it be the sleek and smooth edges of a spaceship, or the rough edges of a rock face. This will be pivotal in recreating each environment, providing a natural look, but still allowing easy construction play.

The entire range will be displayed at the Character Options stand at the London Toy Fair with the first products set for release in Spring 2011.

Charactercontruction

Matt Smith and Karen Gillan have already seen their new figures and commented:

characterbuild Matt Smith: “It was very surreal and funny coming face to face with a miniature version of myself as the Doctor but I’m glad that the Doctor’s trusty Sonic Screwdriver is in his hand, ready to fend off attacks from monsters!”

Karen Gillan: “I absolutely love these miniature toys of The Doctor and Amy Pond despite the strange sensation of seeing myself immortalised in plastic and miniature and buildable…and dissectible. I’m loving Pond’s flaming ginger mane and it’s funny to think that The Doctor and Amy are small enough to travel around in someone’s pocket!”

Richard Hollis, Head of UK Licensing at BBC Worldwide said: “We are delighted to build on our existing relationship with Character Options. We’ve worked successfully with them in the past and the quality and imagination they put into their toys is outstanding. This new venture offers the perfect play pattern for Doctor Who fans and opens up a fascinating and innovative genre. We believe that this is a fantastic new project and we’re really excited to see how popular these toys will become.”

Jon Diver, Character Group’s Joint Managing Director, commented: “This new project represents a major investment for us and we are delighted to be increasing our Doctor Who portfolio. In doing so we will also be supplying a new option to the child constructor who will now have the choice of a construction toy that has all the excitement and appeal that the licences brings with them.”

May be but at least we know where we stand (obviously due to the amount of images now online were are assuming they were actually taken with permission)

This is what i really love about this situation, me and Luke, who put a lot of effort in this site which now gets 1000s of visitors a day travel 200 miles, politely ask if we can take photos and are told no as some of the stuff was under embargo to come back and find people leaving thinks to other sites who are obviously more privileged than us.

I think it’s great these are being made. Although I have to say I always wished Lego would pick up Doctor Who, because then Traveller’s Tales could make a Doctor Who Lego video game. I love the Lego video game series, and the Doctor Who universe its number of characters would fit so perfectly into the humour and play style of those games. Apparently they won’t make a game unless there have been actual building sets produced.

I think it’s still worthwhile. The first images I see of Dr Who merchandise are always on this site. The official Dr Who site doesn’t talk about merchandise and Dr Who Toys. Net don’t have as many updates as you do and so I don’t check them every day. Keep up the good work, me and other fans rely on this site. It’s the best Dr Who site on the web.

we were told no pictures, so we dont have any, you will have to go to the other sites that were allowed to take them, normally when they come out we would buy them and do what we do with the other figures and take pictures.

Not Character (not on general view anyway ) there are some great items coming for H Grossman, A Tardis (big one) with a difference and some fun novelty items, lots of them, as this is a trade show many items are still on the drawing board or yet to get final approval so there is a limit as to what an be said, unfortunately some of the items like the ride in Dalek weren’t quite ready for the show – but there might be even more exiting news on that front.

This reallyu makes me feel sad. Your’e site is the best who fan site on the web – its design is brilliuant, it gives away just enough informatiuon to build anticipation not too much too soon, and its always friendly and accojmadating. Bad show toy fair, bad show.

This really makes me feel sad.

me to, especially since we travelled a very costly 200 mile round trip to do it, we have always respected embargoes and never use anything without asking if its ok first, fat lot of good that does us, or perhaps we are just to polite.

£1.99 for a figure, £9.99 for a small set and up to £49.99 for the big sets ( and they are big ) lego sets are just as expensive if not more

I really dont know, to be honest i would think there almost done for series 5 now and will be planning series 6.
      .
All they had on display in the main area Doctor Who wise was the Character building series ( and lots of it ) what they had “behind the scenes” I dont know.
      .
We are not retailers so we are not privy to future releases ( and if we were we wouldn’t be able to tell you )

Yes we went and yes it was very good to a point but having asked politely if photos were allowed of the new items and were told definitely not as many were still under embargo as it was a trade fair only to get back to find others have obviously been freely allowed to take them makes me a bit pig sick considering the amount of effort we put in here to be honest.
      .

Many of the exhibitors were most hospitable and showed us some great things coming up this year.
