October 27th, 2019 - 3:47pmSo am I right in thinking there are now two animation companies involved in recreating the missing episodes/stories? If so, then maybe two stories being animated a year is possible? Next year will hopefully see ‘The Faceless Ones’ and ‘Fury from the Deep’. Maybe we could have one Hartnell and Troughton story animated for 2021? I’d choose ‘The Celestial Toymaker’ and ‘The Abominable Snowmen’ next.

October 27th, 2019 - 3:43pmI wonder (since this is being done by a different group) if the BBC Studios team doing Faceless Ones will move straight onto Evil of the Daleks for 2021 since they continue on from each other?
James17
October 27th, 2019 - 5:32pmThat would be cool cause then fury team could move to wheel!
Anonymous
October 27th, 2019 - 7:06pmPlus the fury team is the same team that did tenth planet and moonbase it makes sense for them to do the last of the cyber stories
prototype dalek
October 27th, 2019 - 2:35pmCertainly an unexpected choice but certainly welcomed
Alvin
October 27th, 2019 - 2:34pmWOW, I’m so glad they’ve chosen Fury of the Deep for the next animated story, its one of the stories that I remember a lot about from when I first saw it televised as a child 🙂

October 27th, 2019 - 2:01pmWhen is the faceless ones clip out

October 27th, 2019 - 3:31pmMaybe they are going to keep that for the dvd release.

October 27th, 2019 - 1:39pmGreat news.A true classic
Anonymous
October 27th, 2019 - 1:35pmFirst animation I am honestly worried might ruin the story. This episode couldn’t work with 2D animated cut outs miming lines. There a few chase sequences that visuals would ruin. I’d honestly wait for a 3D animation in a few years.
Anonymous
October 27th, 2019 - 1:38pmWow… why don’t you wait and watch it before dismissing it…
Anonymous
October 27th, 2019 - 1:44pmIt would terrible if the original episodes were found as well. All those visual moments would ruin a great audio story…
Bobby Davros
October 27th, 2019 - 2:33pmDont watch it then. Pretend it doesn’t exist. The only way they can ruin a pre-existing audio track is by destroying all copies.
Anonymous
October 27th, 2019 - 3:41pmI haven’t dismissed it. I know how the animation style goes. It’s 2D drawing figures miming an audio track from the 60’s. No matter how good it is it. The episode was made in live action and so the dialogue, animation can’t capture that. Theres apparently big helicopter shots in the episode. I have only listened to the audio so I don’t know. And I don’t think the animation can capture that really well. There’s also always going to be positioning problems and preformance capturing being wrong. Still I am going to be buying this on DVD and Steelbook as I support what they’re trying to do and it would look stupid not having it.
Bobby Davros
October 27th, 2019 - 5:29pmSo you haven’t listened to the audio but fear that visuals will ruin it….hmm.
skaroman
October 27th, 2019 - 1:29pmAnyone know who the animation team is for Fury? Or is it the same one as Macra/Faceless?
P.S. Also gonna call shots now for next one after Fury. Either Evil, Abominable or Wheel.

October 27th, 2019 - 1:36pmI think its Big Finish Creative (formally Planet 55)

October 27th, 2019 - 1:36pmIt’s big finish creative. They used to be called planet 55 studios. It’s a different team to faceless ones which is being done by Bbc studios

October 27th, 2019 - 1:10pmI really hope they animate the sonic screwdriver to look like the whistle they used instead of just making it look like a pen light
Anonymous
October 27th, 2019 - 1:03pmGreat news. Surprised it wasn’t evil but definitely a nice surprise.
Gordon
October 27th, 2019 - 1:14pmI thought it was going to be evil but glad to be wrong. It’s my most wanted story animated
Anonymous
October 27th, 2019 - 1:31pmGordon do you think we’ll get all of the troughton era animated? I feel that evil and wheel are probably going to be done. I think abominable is a possibility but I’m not sure how commercial Highlanders and pirates are. Same applies to the hartnell era really, I’d love some animated but just not convinced they could get enough casual sales to make a lot of the first doctor era viable.
Gordon
October 27th, 2019 - 1:46pmHighlanders is probably the most problematic of the troughton’s to do but the rest seem very possible. Maybe space pirates as it’s an extremely unpopular story which may effect sales
Anonymous
October 27th, 2019 - 1:51pmFunny thing is I’d love pirates to be animated. I genuinely don’t have a problem with it and think it would also benefit from adding visuals but I also get that it isn’t a great story, I like it despite it’s faults but it would be a hard sell to the general buying public rather than fans.
Gareth Pugh
October 27th, 2019 - 2:27pmMark Ayers said at the panel that Highlanders was tricky due to the sound recordings they had being too ropey for the unforgiving sonic reveal-all glare of blu-Ray but that they’ve now got a better sound source (in the past year) which means ‘it might now be possible’
Gordon
October 27th, 2019 - 2:38pmThat will be the Randell tapes that were found earlier this year
Gordon
October 27th, 2019 - 1:02pmThis just leaves 5 Troughton stories to get a stand alone dvd release:
The highlanders
The evil of the Daleks
The abominable snowman
The wheel in space
The space pirates
Mark Belsom
October 27th, 2019 - 1:03pmEvil and Wheel next, hopefully.

October 27th, 2019 - 1:16pmOne of the reasons I’m pleased about fury is it’s a story I prefer reading to listening to. Don’t get me wrong I love the soundtrack CD but I find it hard to get into sometimes. I love the idea of an animated version as I do think fury Is a story that will benefit greatly from having a visual element added back. Out the 5 (wow just 5!) remaining stories I would like to see abominable animated for the same reasons. It’s a story that would benefit immensely from being able to see the yeti as on the soundtrack they are silent.
Gordon
October 27th, 2019 - 1:20pmI found the recon of abominable a slog to get through so I’d seriously welcome an animated version
TIM M
October 27th, 2019 - 3:53pmHopefully someone animates at least episodes 1 and 4 of ‘The Underwater Menace’. I’d happily buy it on DVD again. I think animation would do wonders for the story anyway, and actually improve it.
Anonymous
October 27th, 2019 - 4:30pmAgree with that tim

October 27th, 2019 - 9:38pmThey could perhaps re-release ‘Underwater Menace’ and ‘Web of Fear’ as special editions with animated episodes in the future.

October 27th, 2019 - 10:22amIs it likely that the Sophie Aldred book will be announced today???
Hi
October 27th, 2019 - 9:22amI think it mostly to be the space pirates or the crusade or Marco Polo because then if they do any of those we can have a Blu-Ray box set
For William Hartnell or Troughton
Gordon
October 27th, 2019 - 9:29amThe choices of animation aren’t influenced by the collection box sets

October 27th, 2019 - 9:16amI’m wondering if this could be an animation of a Big Finish audio, because he has written some Big Finish audio dramas in the past, and he is attending the panel…

October 25th, 2019 - 1:37amThis is an interesting one. I’m wondering why he’s there. He produced animations for dreamland and infinite quest. He also helped planet 55 studios get off the ground but ive no idea if he’s still involved. It’s going to be interesting what his role is. Speaking of planet 55 studios I had no idea they rebranded to a new name called big finish creative https://bigfinishcreative.com.au/#contact
the 14th doctor
October 25th, 2019 - 9:15ami so hope they do another animation! their moonbase animation is the best animation thay have ever done in my opinion!
Sean Bassett
October 27th, 2019 - 9:11amWhat if Big Finish Creative focus on animations with only two missing episodes whilst Charles Norton and his team animate stories with more missing? It could be a way for us to get The Crusade and The Underwater Menace.
Gordon
October 27th, 2019 - 10:09amCharles norton isn’t doing the animations anymore. The macra terror was his last animation. Anne Marie-Walsh who did the wheel minisode is doing the faceless ones. He’s still doing things for doctor who though as he worked on the vervoids se. Crusade is extremely unlikely. It has more cast costumes and sets than most 6 or even 7 parters. For comparison there is more cast characters and sets in crusade than there is in both faceless ones and evil combined
Sean Bassett
October 27th, 2019 - 11:33amThe Crusade is only unlikely with this animation team, however with a different team focusing on serials where only two episodes are missing it could be a different story. It depends how they would budget it.
Gordon
October 27th, 2019 - 12:00pmThe crusade is unlikely with pretty much any animation team on the budget they currently have. It just has far too many cast characters and sets to be done on the time and budget they have. The only story that would cost more is masterplan and that would be doable if they split it into 2 6 parter. Just because it’s only 2 eps doesn’t make it doable.
skaroman
October 21st, 2019 - 12:23amPossibilities:
1. Evil – following from the season 4 trend plus the popularity of the daleks
2. Web – only one episode to animate (unless they tracked down web3) and good for a SE release like Enemy
3. Wheel – partly already animated plus Cybermen are popular
4. Space Pirates – easy to do and in time for season 6 blu-ray (for Troughton’s centenary)
5. A new original animation like Infinity Quest and Dreamland
6. Any other popular Troughton’s (Abominable, Fury)
Gordon
October 21st, 2019 - 8:54amIf they do space pirates I can’t see them doing season 6 next year. They will want a stand alone release first to recoup animation costs before it gets included in the collection and the choices of animation aren’t influenced by the collection box sets
skaroman
October 21st, 2019 - 5:37pmGood point, but it ultimately depends on how quick they are with their animations. Faceless Ones is out ‘2020’, but how early? If they’re already debuted a clip from a new animation project then have they finished Faceless or close to finishing it?
Season 6 doesn’t have to be released to the day of the centenary but if Space Pirates was completed in time for a Summer 2020 release, then the blu-ray collection released in time for Christmas 2020 then it would make sense. Just speculation I know, but it’s interesting to see how both the animation team and the blu-ray team are working.
Anonymous
October 21st, 2019 - 10:32pmCouldn’t you argue that even if they announced space pirates to be animated, sales would be down as people would be anticipating a collection box set of season 6 and therefore choose to wait a year or so for it to be released in that set, and the animators must be at the very least aware of the bluray collection & choose to animate some of the less popular stories (such as Space Pirates) in order to leave some classics for the last, similar to how not all the fan favourite seasons were released in the bluray collection first (I anticipate season 13 to be left till later)
Prowl
October 22nd, 2019 - 8:17amI think the Highlanders could be high on the list, they’ve talked before about how they were choosing between it and Macra Terror before going with Macra Terror. It’s an important piece of the show’s history since it’s Jamie’s first story. Persoanlly, I’d love it or Evil, they seem to be working on season 4 stories.
Anonymous
October 24th, 2019 - 1:20pmHighlanders has already been ruled out
Crosby
October 15th, 2019 - 8:49pmWhy are BBC America getting an airing of the animated version of the faceless ones why can’t BBC air it over here getting sick of the Americans getting things like that they get some on the cinema as well such as series finale of series 8 and the end of time it’s a British show we should get them over here on the cinema
booboo
October 15th, 2019 - 9:26pmPart funded by BBC America without which you would not get anything most likely, this has been established for a long time now.
There is tonnes of stuff now the USA dont get so it works both ways

October 19th, 2019 - 6:49amAs a US Whovian, we would love to have the limited edition UK packaging of the blueray classic DW collection boxsets, instead of the way stripped down version of it we get with just a standard blueray case. Instead I have to import the UK version because the packaging is sooooo much nicer.
As booboo says, it works both ways…
Gordon
October 19th, 2019 - 1:11pmThe only bbc channel that would likely show the animation style of the faceless ones would be cbbc which would only give it a very small audience. You also got to find an available slot to broadcast. With it being a 6 parter I can see it being spread out over 6 weeks. All this will push back the dvd/blu ray release by months as they will want it broadcast before the dvd release. Considering macra terror was released about 3 weeks after completion I’d rather they didn’t broadcast
