The Fifth Doctor’s Sonic Screwdriver continues its long legacy as a multi-purpose tool for accessing panels, locks, and controls. Each Doctor has upgraded the device with added features such as soundwave locking, fastener removal, micro-soldering, and electronic disruption.

August 14th, 2026 - 11:58amI dropped Character an email about this item. They said its been developed for independent stores, so won’t come to their website. Didn’t really want to pay 6 quid postage with forbidden planet .. Seems over the top, but didn’t want to miss out on it.

August 15th, 2026 - 8:02pmRoyal Mail Tracked 48 delivery costs £3.65. There isn’t a reason to charge 6 quid. The exorbitant delivery charges are one of the reasons I don’t really shop with forbidden planet. Just my opinion Andy.

August 15th, 2026 - 8:06pmWarehouse costs packing materials don’t come cheap and packing and admin staff want paying + expensive high street stores, substantial costs all on top of basic postage rate than need to be covered. FP charge what works for them within their busness model and keeps it viable.
Soem retailers are slightly less, some charge a lot more.
Also character get the item at cost so can afford free post, no middle man.

August 16th, 2026 - 4:27pmIf that’s how they make their money, it’s their business and their perogative, no issues from me, I’m not asking them to lose money. I either accept it or don’t buy. I’ve never paid 6 pounds to have one item delivered, it’s something I just won’t do normally. I see it as dead money. 18 pounds over the 3 sonics in delivery charges is excessive to me.
Majority of places offer free delivery over a certain spend threshold, I’ve no idea on the affordability to do this for FP, I’ve no idea how much profit is baked into their items. I tend to group purchases together to avoid delivery charges at other retailers.
In the case of the sonics if I could have ordered the 5th, 8th and Laser screwdriver in with the same delivery charge, id have less of an issue with it. I’d be happy to wait and get the 3 at the same time with one postage charge. If they perhaps introduced an optional delayed postage option on pre ordered items, I’d be more inclined to order more often. Like I said, only my opinion and no attack on FP intended.

For anyone ordering all 3 of the new release Screwdrivers in the same order they won’t be sent until the last one is released which according to their website is October as they’ll send them all together. To receive them as they are released they have to be ordered separately.

I was holding off getting them for ages because I thought there was no way they’d be exclusive to these shops. Hopefully more 8th Doctor and Laser Screwdrivers will turn up because almost all of them are pre-ordered

August 10th, 2026 - 3:17pmTo be fair, this is a store exclusive . Ltd one print run. So they asked for it presumably . Its replicating a true metal electroplated one done a few years ago. Goes for £100+ seen at £175 even.
So maybe the store saw an opportunity to have an affordable option.
B&M asked for stuff too. Due later by all accounts (setpt/Oct) 4 packs. 2 Daleks not sure what the other 2 packs have. But they are in store xmas gifts.

August 11th, 2026 - 1:54pmBryan – unconfirmed still, but the Dalek sets are rumoured to be both Matt Smith era – one for Victory of the Daleks (I’ve heard it’s the White Supreme and the Orange Scientist) and one for Asylum of the Daleks (the ‘darker, metallic’ Red and Blue New Paradigm ones). As far as I’ve heard speculated, they are straight reissues rather than any new tweaks or variants. The other non-Dalek sets are said to be one 11th Doctor set with 11 + one other character, plus one 12th Doctor set (12 + Missy, so I hear). We’ll soon find out, I reckon. One thing Al Dewar *did* say about the 2026 B&M exclusives, on a recent YouTub video he guested on (Who Cave?) is that B&M have ordered smaller quantities this year than in previous years.

Just look at amaz. 20 years ago they sold most books, new and old for half price or less now you are lucky if you get a book with 75p off. The book shops died and lo and behold what was forecast came true. A raised their prices simply because they can and there are very few competitors.
