Feature – Mego / Bif Bang Pow! Cyberman

Feature – Mego / Bif Bang Pow! Cyberman

During the 1970′s Denys Fisher in collaboration with US toymaker Mego released various 9″ Doctor Who figures. Included in the range were the Fourth Doctor, Leela, K-9, The Giant Robot K1, a Cyberman, Dalek, and a Tardis.

Although the articulated action figures had very little resemblance to their characters and the Cybermen and Dalek were not to the standards we are used to today, this range is has become highly collectable and good examples with all accessories and original box are very much sought after and can fetch hundreds of pounds.

Bif Bang Pow! was founded in 2005 an now has a large range of retro style figures from many cult shows including Doctor Who. The fist wave consists of The 4th Doctor, Cybeman, Sontaran and Decayed master with the second wave consisting of Leela, Scaroth, Morbius and Sutekh.

Wave 3 may consist of A Dalek, The 1st Doctor, a Kraal, Mr sin and Li H’sen Chang and Magnus Greel.

The Mego cyberman figure in good condition with original box and accessories can command a very high price and is very rare. The one below is missing its chest plate.

Although their look may appear odd compared to the ranges we see today there are many worldwide collectors of these retro style figures.

No. It is from the fourth doctor episode, revenge of the cybermen.

Actually, I think it is meant to be from the invasion. The new cyberman is from Revenge of the cybermen.
      The invasion: 1968
      Revenge of the cybermen: 1975

HELL YES, An Cyberleader! Both Bif Bang Pow and Character Cyberleaders are awesome. So i’ll just wait and see what comes my way 🙂 The cool thing about this figure, is that like most figures, it clothes are fabric-like. Characters figure clothing is all plastic (not that I care).
That mego figure no offence is awful, but is useful as an rare collectors item.

it’s not just about the nose, there are lots of things wrong with the original cyberman. no chestplate, no hands, the arm and leg wires are the wrong design (to be more specific, it’s the tomb of the cybermen arm and leg wires) and as you described, yes, it has a nose

It is mentioned above that this particular toy has lost its chestpalte, so it is more down to not being able to last 35 years rather than inaccuracy.
