Andrew Skilleter dominated 1980s Doctor Who art. Aside from over forty covers for the Doctor Who Target books, he was the ‘go to’ artist for anything Who. In 1983, he formed Who Dares, a small publishing company that focused on his Doctor Who related artwork licensed by the BBC. The launch of the Profile Prints made a splash at the Longleat 20th Doctor Who Anniversary Celebrations. New merchandise followed including the official Doctor Who calendars, bookmarks and art cards, much of which sold in large numbers in the USA. In 1983 he painted ‘The Five Doctors’ anniversary cover for the Radio Times. In 1988, through Who Dares he co-published with David Banks the legendary Cybermen book. David Banks is well known for his role as the Cyberleader in the 1980s TV show and much more.

Andrew honed his portraiture skills and pushed the boundaries of the Whovian myth visually beyond the restraints of the TV images into speculative conceptual designs for such as the Ice Warriors, Sontarans, Gallifrey, notably for the The Monsters (1992) book. He worked closely with Doctor Who producer, John Nathan-Turner, and had a long creative liaison with the BBC producing numerous video covers for the Doctor Who series, the Collector’s Tardis and Dalek Tins, and other genre titles and of course the Doctor Who USA Exhibition Trailer launched at Elstree.

EXTERMINART! (2021) was the first book dedicated to his art since Blacklight in 1995. Between 2022 and 2025 he has published the ILLUMINART Trilogy which features most of his Doctor Who art. EVOLUTION is the first book since 2015 to feature substantially new art. He is married and lives in Wareham, Dorset, UK.
