Dr Who Figurine Collection #195 Bok

A sinister gargoyle animated by the ancient Daemon Azal, the Bok Figurine makes a perfect addition to your Doctor Who Figurines Collection.

When the disguised Master arrived at the village of Devil’s End, he formed a cult to awaken the ancient Daemon known as Azal. His control of the villagers was cemented by the stony church gargoyle, “Bok”, animated by Azal’s power to act as the Master’s enforcer.

This Bok Figurine captures the likeness of the character and has been meticulously crafted in specially formulated metallic resin and painted by hand.

Product Features:

  • Material: Metallic Resin, carefully produced in 1:21 scale
  • Hand-painted for incredible detail to show all the little details
  • Great gift for Doctor Who fans

The Bok Figurine is accompanied by a 16-page magazine featuring information about your figurine and its creation.

Latest Eaglemoss issues arrived and Bok is just fantastic! Love it!

One of those figurines that for some reason looks even better in hand. I think in this case its because images tend to make it look lighter and flattens out the details but the sculpt has really caught the character very well.

    Please keep them coming!

Just curious about Bok though Doug. Does it still look like a pre painted prototype like in the photos, or is it a more realistic grey with the weathering.
I’m a few figures behind a the moment so it’ll be a while before I get one.

      Hi Coleman,
While its not got that weathered finish, it certainly looks like a darker grey in hand. You could always do a light wash to give it that weathered stone look. I’ve given quite a few figurines new paint jobs mainly to fix quite poor paint finishes on the ones I’ve received but also to make them look bit more screen accurate (like Alpha Centauri).

A little idea. Just bought the Snowman from Eaglemoss yesterday and it’s literally just arrived minutes ago.
When I spend under £15 I always use the Royal Mail option to save money. (The Dpd next day delivery is usually twice as much). Just wondering if I only pay for Royal mail but they still ship by Dpd next day delivery, whats the point of me going to the expense of using the Dpd option in future?

I’m certainly hoping for some animation DVD and Character Options news.

I enjoy reading the conversations about your customs, along with Coleman and Doug Who. I don’t do such customs so can’t offer anything myself, but it certainly piques my interest and I’m really looking forward to seeing the final products on the collections page if/when they are available.

I’m working on more Harlequin and Warlord Games models at the moment so will be adding to my collection photos in the not too distant future as well.

Some of the ones i,ve seen of yours Tim are really good. You should give the polymer figurines a try if theres a piece you really would fancy tackling. The beauty of polymer is you can come back to the project when you have the time. I,d advise getting as much detail as you can before baking, as the piece becomes harder to add to, each time you cure. i wish more people got involved to add to our customs discussions. It doesn,t take much to get us going.

      Hello Timelord Tim and ergon.
Don’t know if you’ve been on Ask Questions recently. But Doctor…Who? As asked Booboo for a collections page. Looking forward to checking out more pages. He very kindly commented on my collection awhile back. (I mixed him up with Doug… Who at 1st and asked how he was getting on with his customs) Haha.

      May 5th, 2021 - 12:09pm

Yes Tim, if you ever did start to do any Air dry or Polymer clay models in either Eaglemoss, CO or Robert Harrop scale, you can certainly paint so it would be just trying to get to grips with the sculpting part.
Since you love CO figures your best bet could be using cheap old CO figures and converting them with Milliput into new never been done before characters.
(I’m going to try this after I finish off the 8 inch Menoptera, don’t know if I’ll be any good but I’ll give it ago).

      May 5th, 2021 - 1:18pm

      Hi all and Tim!
Just checked out your page and those mini-dioramas are fantastic! I love the imagination behind them and so well painted. I have quite a few of the Harlequin range, simply because they did characters and monsters nobody else have done…not sure if they got round copyright at the time or simply ignored it!
My favourite Harlequin model is the Shrivenzale, just reimagined enough to make it look good. I’ve painted quite a few and they are SO fiddly and really bad for eyestrain! I’ve kept them on the little round bases they come with but added little bits of landscape.
I checked out Rob White’s customs and they are just brilliant. The Ancient One and Haemovore are so good and he’s done a Krarg- fantastic!

    • Coleman

      May 5th, 2021 - 5:01pm

Yes Rob Whites customs are something else Doug. Eventually I’m going to try customising some old CO figures with Milliput, to make some of the figures i don’t think wi’ll ever get from CO.
Mentioned to ergon if mine are half as good as his I’ll be very happy.

    • Doug Who

      May 5th, 2021 - 6:12pm

I find it really interesting seeing what Rob uses to make some of the initial body shapes but the level of detail he gets is incredible. DalekIdea on Youtube is another customiser whose sculpts are fantastic. He sells custom heads and made a lovely ‘Warriors’ style Silurian bust.
Couldn’t begin to figure out the working joints myself so I’ll stick to the solid sculpts and customising.
I must look into posting some images soon…

    • Coleman

      May 5th, 2021 - 6:30pm

Yes, what’s that white stuff he uses for initial body shapes, is it card stock or plastic sheeting?
I left a few comments on Flickr as Coleman Dover, hoping to get a few tips. But so far he hasn’t replied. Ive just had a look and a few of my comments are 23 days old now.

      Hi Coleman,
I think he mentioned plasticard but he also seems to bulk things out with tin foil and tape before adding the milliput. Wonder what tools he uses to sculpt? The paint finishes are great too.

    • Coleman

      May 6th, 2021 - 9:10am

Yes, as I mentioned I was trying to get a few tips myself in case I tackled some CO figures, like what tools he used, what was the white card stock, how did he bulk up figures before using Milliput, what paints he used etc, etc, but he never got back to me.
I noticed some of his newer posts were a year to a year and half ago, he might not use this site very often now?

Just been for the tedious weekly shop with the girlfriend and just left her in the clothes aisle whyllst i just checked the mags,I said i needed the loo. Had a quick look through for those clay figurines you were talking about and i was rather impressed , the quick glance i had of them. they looked slightly caricature, rather like clay funko pop in style. You never see the ergon but it looked good but the ones that really caught my eye were the young womans versions of Aukon, Camilla and Zargo. Nobody ever thinks to do them.

    • TimelordTim

      May 6th, 2021 - 5:08pm

Hi all, I’m certainly tempted to try a custom CO scale figure. I have a lot of projects ongoing at the moment so it will be quite a while before I get to try and do one. But I’m certainly considering it. It’s great reading these conversations to get the tips before I attempt anything in the future, so thank you all for your suggestions.

The Harlequin and Warlord Games models can be quite fiddly but I’d recommend them to anyone looking to expand a collection with a range of different characters. I’ve got 11 more Harlequin models, 1 Dart Castings Model and 8 Warlord Games models in various stages of being painted at the moment (will update my collections page when they are all done).

I only started these models about a year ago, at the same time I listened to my first Big Finish release (Dark Eyes), and since then have really enjoyed listening to the audios whilst painting away!

Yes ergon, can’t ever recall seeing Aukon, Camilla and zargo in any shape or form.

Hi Coleman, they are all Big Finish. I’ve got quite a lot in just a year but I’m very glad I found them. An excellent option for car radio, whilst painting, and generally getting some ‘new’ Who when it’s not on TV

Hello, sorry to butt in but it’s in regard to your varnishing comment ergon. Was planning on varnishing everything I make both now and in the future, mainly because the acrylic paint easily scuffs off on polymer clay, so I thought this would be the ideal protection.
However, looking at many sources over many weeks I’ve noticed one common problem.
Alot of varnishes yellow and even go flaky over time, some quite badly and ruin another wise great sculpt.
Sometimes it takes a few years other times maybe a decade but they still end up with the same problem.
Some customises have found this problem using all kinds of varnish and using different techniques. (So now even I’m undecided).

Thats what i read coleman.the advice being you don,t need to varnish with polymer. Its just looking at your pieces and others they look glazed.

      May 3rd, 2021 - 11:52am

      Hi Coleman!
Yes although it cures over time acrylic’s plasticity means it isn’t the most durable but much more easily colour mixed than enamel. I’ve found on clay it adheres to the surface quite well.
I use a good quality artists varnish rather than household but I’ve only used it on the Rutan so far. It’s lurid green anyway so won’t really matter if it yellows over time! Time, as they say, will tell…
Maybe we should start a blog for all this saving Booboo from having to moderate all our nonsense!

Hello, theirs no Varnish on my figures. I’m using Satin acrylics at the moment, I think that’s the sheen your probably seeing in the photos. Not too keen on some of the Matt finishes, has you once said they can be a bit chalky. Also the gloss paint can be abit too much sometimes for figures so it’s trying to get the right balance. (Try mixing Matt and satin if satin on its own as too much of a sheen for you ergon.)

Its quiet on the figure/figurine front and it always piques my interest when a wishlist starts a discussion. We just tend to veer from the subject .l,m sure our comments will pale into insignificance when those b and m sets get a release or theres a new limited edition bluray release.

The problem is posts disappear into archive on the front page quite rapidly here and ask a question gets cleared out as its very general and there would be 10’s 1000’s of comments in there otherwise and conversations like this would get lost in the void.

I would love dedicated “chat rooms” for genuine collectors if things remained civil (after all that’s why this site exists because we are collectors) but experience tells me they would soon become victim to anti everything brigade.

Coleman. I,m quite pleased with the olasmaton. Funnily enough, it fits in quite nicely between the other fifth figurines. Looking over some of the items they do look matte finished anyway. Thanks Booboo for allowing us to ramble on! All your hard work is appreciated.

Ergon, just read one of your comments below. (Somewhere, can’t remember) some one did some fantastic Brain of Morphos customs. They were Eaglemoss scale like you do and the brains were painted in an orange colour, Inside a clear dome.
Reason I mentioned this they used sewing thimble clear platic cases and they were spot on for what your looking for.
Booboo might be able to Google a photo of the cases and put on here.
(I’m no good at anything like that)
I don’t sew but apparently some collectable thimbles like at the seaside come in clear bell shaped plastic containers.

Hi both! There are indeed quite a few colour photos of the Brains. The website tragicalhistorytour.com has loads of photos and is a great visual reference.
The Brains are a bright red with darker lowlights and orange ‘feet’. I’d really like to see the other customisers versions Coleman if you can find them again.
Oh and on the Propstore website it has photos of a Plasmaton costume front and back! I might yet indulge…

I’ll have a look for them again Doug. Seem to remember their was two versions, one Eaglemoss scale and the other Character Options.
The CO version was a stunner, they made a Diarama with a little table with the Morphos lined up in a row, they even had CO customs of the 1st Doctor and Barbara with arm raised trying to smash the cases. The Morphos looked excellent in the little cases in a dark orange colour.
(Theirs atleast two sizes of thimble cases ergon so youll be able to get correct size)

What colour is the plasmaton prop. Some look greenwith tints of orange, light grey or a mix of light and dark grey. I went dark grey with a mixture of light. There are a few variants to choose from doug i,,ll take a look at those thimble cases later this aft coleman. Thanks to you both. At least you do the research.

    • Doug Who

      May 4th, 2021 - 3:34pm

The Plasmaton seems to be light grey highlights through to dark grey/black Ergon. There’s an online image of the guy who bought one of the props carrying it home in daylight which is usually a good indicator of colour so I think you went for the right colour! I think the orange tinge is the colour of the base foam showing through.
The clear plastic dome I used were for dolls’ houses and had a base diameter of just over 20mm, which was perfect for the Eaglemoss scale. I had to buy a pack of ten so have plenty spare.

    • the ergon

      May 4th, 2021 - 4:39pm

The bloke carrying the plasmaton was one i believe was auctioned off at Bonhams, thats the one i drew my colour from and the plasmaton i went with. I mixed all shades of grey, threw in some white and black to try and get the consistency right. I have to say there were many attempts at colour but the mid grey black/white worked for me. i didn,t glaze and it sits nicely between all the other fifth doctor adversaries without me thinking it doesn,t quite look right and as i say there are many plasmaton variations so it doesn,t matter which you choose to do if you have a go.Once WhenThe kandymen and my other two projects are completed i,ll have a go at the Brains. I,ve noted your details and i,ll take a look when i get a spare half hour.

I,ve just checked out those Thimble cases online and there is quite a selection. The only thing thats missing however is the clear air hole at the top of the case for accuracy but they are almost as good as the real thing. i can be pedantic with regards to detail but if i dont see anything else i might fall back on these. Thanks anonymous.
Just been on Rob whites customs site again and it got me thinking if anyone cant find clear images for detail they could copy the unseen detail from robs. I cant get over how good some of those are and i,m quite jealous i have to say. I,d love to own a Krafayis, saturnyne and Myrrka at that level and his husks and Bellal really capture the likeness and detail. In fact most of them are the best creative work i,ve seen for custom work.

    • Coleman

      May 6th, 2021 - 9:19am

Hello Ergon, I somehow knew you’d mention the airhole at the top, so I already had an answer for you which should work quite well.
Source some clear perspex (like a straw shape) then cut to size and super glue on.
I’m think this will be the nearest you get to 100% accuracy. (Should be easy too).

      May 6th, 2021 - 11:51am

i don,t know which size to go for yet but this is 3-4 projects down the list and it will probably be something i run concurrent with something else. I will take into account all your suggestions. i do have varying sizes and layers of plastic sheets i bought somewhere online for various upcoming customs. I think it was Etsy or something. By the way i checked some of the props why,ll on there. you can even buy a trionic lattice of all things as required by one Magnus Greel.

    • Doug Who

      May 6th, 2021 - 12:04pm

      Hi Ergon and Coleman,
I went for the smaller 20mm dolls’ house dome simply because it was the same 1:21 scale as Eaglemoss. For the bit at the top, I used a small section of silicon rod, which although not hollow, has a bit more rigidity to it. For the base I sourced mirror screw covers and it was a bit of hassle finding the right size but in the end much easier than sculpting something with such a polished finish.
I did think about making a table for it to sit on but in the end thought it was the figurine that’s the main thing, so mounted it on a plain black square plinth to give it height which was then glued to an Eaglemoss base. I did the same with the Keller Machine.

I remember seeing Dinosaurs on a Spaceship when it was 1st Broadcast and thinking the Robots would be COs next 5inch figures. (They were so cool looking). But not long after Character announced they were going in the 3.75 inch scale direction.

Strange thing is, I would love to see a clockwork droid from the girl in the fireplace but in the female outfit, we’ve had lots of versions of the male outfit but never the other. Would make a nice change.

Prototype dalek , thats why variant sets would be a good idea. you could get the Voc, supervoc or/and damaged Robot (Robots of Death), clockwork droids in female and variant in blue outfit and all three variants of the pegdoll, which i would dearly love the most.

Not one mention of the ‘cover’ monster in the bed from listen. There are one or two others that never get a mention and i might make a start on a few customs of these if you could make a guess.

Ben robinson hinted at a chumbley quite recently and the terileptil Android must surely have a shoe in before 220 but a continuation in one form or other as i,d like a Cryon, Sandy from the rescue and there are umpteen from season 16 not least an Ogri and Cailleach.

      Hi Ergon,

Neil Corry mentioned recently it was not for want of trying to get more Season 16 characters but there were problems. I’d love more from that one and from Season 15 so we’ll just have to hope they can get the clearance for more.

I resorted to making my own Ogri amongst others! Quite easy as it is a lump of stone!

Hope it does continue in some form even if the main range comes to an end at 220…it is by some measure my favourite ‘Who’ range.

I,m on with a custom from season 15 at the moment but dont want to divulge till i,ve done a few others which i,ve lined up on a list. My plasmaton is complete and i had trouble with deciding what colour to opt for there as each image showed them in different tones. i,ve completed the Kandyman but had trouble keeping the scale down. so I have medium scale and i am on with a smaller version to match my other eaglemoss stuff. The medium one i,m moulding and replicating before i start the paintwork. Do you varnish when complete or just leave yours as they are?
I saw Neils comments with regards to season 16 but i,d like more. The pirate captain and Romana want some company.

      Hi Ergon,
I’ve done ten customs so far from modifying a ‘Revenge’ Cyberman (carrying bombs) to full sculpts of the Morpho brain, Rutan, the Keller Machine and some Giant Maggots! Thought about doing a Plasmaton, but to be truthful I like neither the story or their design enough to put in the effort.
My Kandyman has stalled a bit just because I don’t have the time just now. It is in scale with the others which makes it very fiddly!
Don’t usually varnish although I did with the Rutan simply because it has a shiny finish.

Ha! Ha! Timeflight isn,t the greatest of stories and fully understand. I did mine purely because its so leftfield and one i figured Eaglemoss might not do one for a while thats why i,m going a bit obscure on some rather than the ‘wish list most wanted’ figurines, and Kalid would probably prove a little too tricky.
some have proved a challenge as you can,t always get full clear images. i can understand where neil was coming from. Be great if you could get the full the full 360 degrees on all the monsters rather than having to embellish to get them looking something like, instead with little to go on.

Yes it can be tricky! The Ogri have a lot of images from the front even in the story itself but the back has to be imagined somewhat. Similarly you never really get a full picture of the Rutan. Long shots and the close up show fibrous ‘tendrils’ yet it coils substantial tentacles around its victims. I went with the latter because I wanted to do the TV version. I may still add the fibres!
Which ones have you had particular issues with – if you want to reveal that of course?

The worst for picking up all the intricate detailing was The Kandyman. I,m a perfectionist,so even finding where there is frosting (i only recently saw where it frosted on the upper metallic mouthpiece) and then of course theres the wiring and what would look ideal when glued and sprayed. I saourced some stretched elastic sourced from of all things a greetings card. The fish person i did the perfect face and head but the scale was wrong for the body and when i tried to replicate, lightening didn,t strike twice and the face whyllst fine, didnt seem to look as good.
I tend to concentrate on the heads, faces and upper torso first before Bake 1 as its a real pain doing the arms and legs and worse if you cure too early.
the Kandyman has seemed to take an eternity to do. Colemans effort was really good for an Harrop a like but i wanted more finer detail and doing it the Eaglemoss way has proved harder and its finding the time as it goes so fast when you start and get involved in these projects.
I might try a Xeraphin to go with the plasmaton later. Male Eldrad or Rokon but id like some glasslike substance to get the body and head just right. The Fish person i,m running concurrent with my secret project and i have other ideas. Plus a Kraag but I,d need to purchase some miniature clay cutters with triangular shapes for the body unless eaglemoss announce one. I,m waiting to see which version of The krynoid they do and and do an alternative.

The Kandyman is ridiculous in its detailing! I have the main body sculpt done but all the ‘fiddly’ finishes will take a while yet. That’s even before painting. A lot of the frosting could be done with paint. I’ve sourced very thin cable ties for the wiring to make them a bit firmer.
I find doing one-offs finding suitable materials is half the battle such as miniature clear domes for the Morpho Brian and the Keller Machine. Still never found a suitable way of doing the lights but then there are compromises on the actual figurines.
A Krarg although a simple design but it would be so complicated to get right. I started on a bust which I haven’t yet finished.
I’d love to see your Fish Person and of course know what your secret project is!
Really have my fingers crossed Eaglemoss do the Krynoid (and of course a Krarg) and I was planning to do the large version over the summer but if they do any version I’ll hold off.

Thats why i,ve held off with the brain of morpho till i find something akin to the clear domed casing. I,m not sure what you,d make of my ‘secret’ choice. You might be surprised and underwhelmed at the same time but want to finish with others before disolaying. Theres nothing worse than a grand unveiling and a muted response.

Too late you’ve built the grand reveal up now!! Sure it will be great whatever it is and I’m looking forward to seeing what you’ve come up with.
It was relatively easy to find the scale domes for Morpho – in fact I have spares. They were made for dolls house clocks. It was harder to find the highly polished chrome bases at the right size. I mounted it on a plain black square column to lift it up. The hardest thing was sculpting the tiny brain itself but it has worked out well even if I say so myself.
The Keller Machine dome was harder because it is taller but I found one. The final model is very slightly too big in scale but then the figurines are are not entirely either so not too bothered.
Will you post photos here? I’ve taken some but haven’t posted them anywhere yet.
