Demon Records presents the narrated TV soundtrack of a ‘lost’ four-part adventure set in ancient Greece, starring William Hartnell as the Doctor.

When the TARDIS lands on the plains of Asia Minor, not far from the walled city of Troy, the Doctor is hailed as the great god Zeus.

He’s enlisted by the Greek army – led by Odysseus and Agamemnon – to come up with a strategy for defeating the Trojans. With his companions already prisoners of the opposing side, the Doctor draws his inspiration from the legend of a certain wooden horse…

Presented across two 140g vinyl Trojan Sunset splatter discs, this 1965 TV soundtrack – no episodes of which survive as film recordings – is narrated by Peter Purves, who co-stars as the Doctor’s companion Steven, with Maureen O’Brien making her final appearance as Vicki.

The guest cast includes Max Adrian as King Priam, Barrie Ingham as Paris, Frances White as Cassandra and Ivor Salter as Odysseus. Incidental music is by Humphrey Searle, and the familiar strains of the Doctor Who theme are courtesy of the BBC Radiophonic Workshop.

The coloured LPs are presented in a gatefold sleeve with fully illustrated inner sleeves. Original episode billings, and full cast and credits, are included.

Wonder if Eaglemoss would ever consider the wooden horse as a special.

And they could scan the surviving prop to make it 100% accurate.

I had an idea the cover would be like that for some reason, with the Trojan horse centre stage.

The Trojan horse prop story wise is a key part of the myth makers but also doctor who wise is the first thing I think about when I think of the myth makers so it was an obvious cover design but still it looks amazing

Great story – one of my favourite Fisrt Doctor adventures. Look forward to seeing the artwork. Slightly off topic – is there going to be any classic Dr Who music releases this year?

Yes. The Final 2 of the 8 ( with the spine design Tardis). I asked Silva screen. They said quarter four 2021;but Covid as ever may mean things slip.

So possibly one. The other major problem is the lack of pressing plants . The Dalek Universe I think it was, was pressed in the Czech Republic . Big finish have major Delays on their Vinyl. Not sure who Demon use.

But I would expect at least One soundtrack music release if not both.

Love any Dr Who colored vinyl. I’ve quite a large collection of music on Vinyl from Punk to rock to even pop since I was a teenager, but most of its on the “bland” black vinyl. So when Dr Who started bringing out the coloured vinyl, I thought it was great.

I just read the Target novelization and thought it was great fun, no idea how faithful it is to the episode itself though.

I’ve read the myth maker target novel and it’s told from the perspective of a character who’s not in the original so it is quite different but the bases of the story is the same

The bare bones of the story is the same but it’s quite different otherwise. I love both versions. The book is great fun and the original audio is a favourite hartnell story of mine. If you haven’t heard it it’s well worth trying.

Ah the narration from Homer in the Target version was perhaps the best part! Yes I’ll have to give it a listen though really I’d like to see some missing Hartnell stories as animations if we cant have the proper episodes.

It has to be said that although I love myth makers it would benefit from having visuals (animation)
