I see we have eBay overload with new Season 8 listings.

All the dealers there must have received their <multiple copies of) sets today too.

Looks like a lot of the sets are priced at around £70 – of course some a lot higher priced and a few lower.

Being so many on eBay, no wonder it goes out of stock so quickly on Amazon, et al.

    Cheers

available to anyone at Argos right now and once stores open probably off the shelves at some retailers, no need to pay ebay prices yet and some retailers might end up selling on there are at normal prices, they have in the past.

    Hello

    What’s everyone’s Season 8 box set condition?

Mine has a tiny dent on the spine that’s not facing me and all the disc trays have been glued in higher than the bottom disc tray that’s glued to the box. Worth getting another copy?

All my season sets have one thing or another in terms of wear and tear, I don’t think any of the seasons box sets are flawless

    Thanks

Mine came from Amazon this afternoon (March 8th); and it is in immaculate and faultless condition. Plus….. trust me; I’ve looked long and hard and checked every inch. Can’t complain.
Although knowing how much I value mine; I really do feel for those who get theirs damaged. I don’t know how I’d feel.

Just opened up my copy (from Amazon).

Booklet seems to be OK, no missing pages or printing registration errors (as mentioned on another post).

However, the stacked trays came off/fell out of the box ripping parts of the printed artwork where the glue ‘spots’ would be. I will carefully repair/re-paint the artwork areas and then re-glue the disc trays into the box….

Didn’t have any issues with the previous 7 releases…

Mine came from Amazon, boxset box was torn along the top and as they have no stock left they can’t replace it. Pretty disappointing, they’re pre-ordered so far in advance, it seems like they under produce these on purpose. No booklet issues aside from some blurry printing on inside cover. On the plus side, discs themselves are fine, loving the improved CSO on Terror.

Mine arrived yesterday evening in excellent condition. First time ever the last disc wasn’t loose.

    • The Timelord 1944

      March 9th, 2021 - 1:42pm

My disc trays are attatched incorrectly too. There is no gap to lift each individual tray to access the disc and they are all out of line with the bottom tray, which had a loose disc on arrival. I have to turn the box over and let the tray drop open to access the discs. This led to the bottom loose disc almost falling out and landing on the carpet.

I have an issue with the booklet included, it’s missing pages 13-20 and it’s got 2 of pages 9-12 and 21-24. Anyone else have this issue and is it fixable?
    Thanks

Yes, my booklet is exactly the same – missing pages 13-20 and pages 9-12 and 21-24 are reproduced twice. This would suggest that most of them will be miss-printed. If anyone has any contact details to get the booklet replaced can you share it please. Thanks.

Just double-checked my copy that I received earlier from Amazon, and I appear to have been lucky – no issues. Booklet correct, printing fine, DVD trays aligned correctly and outer box dent free. Like “Isitneil”, I check these box sets thoroughly, as I feel we are paying enough for them. Sometimes there does appear to be a lack of quality control – sadly, to same can be said of Eaglemoss too on occasion.

Currently watching “Terror of the Autons” with the optional CSO… Seeing the featurettes and Behind the Sofa (Sacha’s reveal that before he shot scenes in Series 12, he was warned not to watch previous Master stories, so he wouldnt be tempted to imitate previous incarnations, and it paid off – when I’ve re-watched “Spyfall, Part One”, I’m always impressed that there were no hints to give away who he really was…)

They keep getting the ratings wrong, as when it was announced they said it was PG, but the actual copy says 12, dunno why this is the case.

    Reply
    • Lee

      March 8th, 2021 - 2:32pm

It might be because the episodes themselves are PG but the special and bonus material added might bump up the rating maybe

    • Things that go bump in the night

      March 8th, 2021 - 2:51pm

When announced the PG rating would be provisional based on the episodic stories and previous DVD VAM, but, as Lee mentioned, the new VAM, after submission to BBFC, can bump up the rating.

The original DVDs for the individual stories are PG rated, except for Mind of Evil, which has a U rating.

So an overall (front of box) 12 rating must be the VAM. You can check each individual disc’s rating to find out which one (or more) took it to the 12 rating.

I can’t check yet as I’m waiting for delivery later today.

Things that go bump in the night, the only disc with a 12 cerficate is disc 8 with the extras on also features a picture of the TARDIS. All the rest are PG certified.

      March 8th, 2021 - 3:37pm

      Hi Coleman,

      Thank you for confirming.

Disc 8 would therefore have the content that raises the set’s overall cert to 12.

      Cheers

      March 8th, 2021 - 3:37pm

At the time of the announcement the new special features weren’t yet rated so the age rating is provisional. I believe Katy was a little bit naughty in her conversation so that could be what bumped it up to 12

Also series 24 has Delta and The Bannermen which is a classic and although it’s not the greatest series it’s still better than most of Steven Moffat’s era

Tomorrow colony and the Daemons and Extras and if i have the time will crack on with that bonus Disc. You have some treats in store, if you haven,t already seen. The Best Blu-Ray boxset release to date in my view.

      March 7th, 2021 - 3:09pm

I had a similar situation to Neill Stringer – checked out my Amazon order status this morning to see a red ‘Payment Method Revision Required’ alert – and at first the change I tried to make didn’t seem to kick in. Thankfully, it eventually did, and my credit card has been successfully charged. A word of advice from previous experience – if that ever happens with a Zavvi pre-order, they don’t give you a chance to change your payment method – they just auto-cancel your order if their attempt to take payment hits a snag at the first asking. I lost out on a Star Wars steelbook pre-order that way, because there was no longer any available stock – anywhere – for me to place a new order again [which is what they told me I’d have to do]. Something to bear in mind with these DW Collection sets that often go OOS across the board before release day. Some people say they are wary of Amazon or would rather order elsewhere for various, valid reasons – but they *do* have this in their favour.

Just a thought. As there are quite a few missing episodes from Hartnell and Troughton era could they remake them like they were filmed originally? David Bradley portrayed Hartnell amazingly in Adventure and Twice. He and the actors who also played the companions are already doing BigFinish audios so why not remake some of the lost episodes but filmed as they were back in the 60s to as true as possible. If not instead of animations OR aswell as?
Mission to the Unknown (I know it’s a Doctor Lite episode) was remade like the original as looks fantastic.
Reece also played Troughton in Adventure so he could possible step into the role to do some of the 2nd epsiodes. Just a thought

I’d love to see them do this too! I think Mark Gatiss jokingly proposed this and said how brilliant it would be to do this while they were making An Adventure in Space and Time. Sadly I think it would be too costly to do to any decent standard and there are quite a few episodes that would need doing. If it is was only 3-4 episodes I could see them doing it through crowd funding or something but remaking all the missing episodes in one run would sadly just be too expensive to do professionally.

    • Bobby Fackrell

      March 7th, 2021 - 8:42am

True far too expensive, if I had money I would make The Evil of the Daleks into a movie

Re Terror of the Autons – episode one: the studio scenes look fantastic, crystal clear, but something has happened to the grey scale level from episodes two through to four because the picture quality is murky in tone. Also it was a shame that the line at the top of the screen in episode 2 and the fuzziness at the bottom of episode 4 were not fixed too for the Blu-ray release especially as the new CGI effects are fantastic, especially towards the end of the story. Overall love this story!

Hopefully just upping the gamma in your tv settings would even these lifted greyscales out in these episodes, most tvs have this option these days. 2.2 is often the standard setting so try 2.4 or even 2.6.

The upgrade in picture for Terror, i thought was a little Blurry and jerky in places. For what there was, the terror CG effects and clean up on certain scenes were a slight improvement but they don,t take anything away from the original. I like the reactions on Behind the sofa especially from Newcomers Anjli and Sacha. I,m doing one a day. The mind of evil tomorrow

      Sounds like another superb set.
Regarding the blurry image i thought that in the trailer , however thats one side effect of a restoration, some DNR will always be applied to clean up the image of excess grain and noise, which works well but the downside to that is slight loss of detail resulting in a slightly blurier image overall, and this material was hardly great to start with, great job though.

The troll doll effects and the Newly improved ‘invasion’ are so crisp and clear and well worth waiting for. It is the varying picture quality and colour tones in certain scenes which slightly let it down.

That sounds like a treat, we are lucky to be getting these sets.
I think the poor colour is just something they cant do a great deal about, this is one of the stories that was on 16mm black and white film and had the colour lifted from a poor quality off air home recording in the states, a 525 line NTSC transmission them synched onto the 16mm film copy.

Well that’s been a brilliant Saturday as mine was delivered at lunch time. Loving the Behind the Sofa and loads of other extra treats. Tomorrow I’ll continue with Colony in Space and The Daemons.

Did everyone else pay £47 for this set in the end? I seem to remember it being up for £44.99 on Amazon but they have charged me £46.99, anyone else had this?

If it lowers in price by the time of dispatch, you will get a refund of the difference. Happened with me a few times.

The price you pay will be the lowest price offered by Amazon.co.uk between the time you place your order up to and including the end of the day of the release date.

Just arrived and looks gorgeous as always. So much packed onto this set, one of the most colourful seasons ever I think.

One last, early delivery from Zoom in their sturdy cardboard. I’m going to miss them!
