      Hello Tom,
      I’d say around 7… at least 7

A disc per story for The Time Warrior, Invasion of the Dinosaurs, Death to the Daleks, The Monster of Peladon, & Planet of the Spiders, and we may get a new omnibus for one or both of Invasion and Monster, or maybe just new effects on Invasion and/or Spiders taking it to 5

There’s also The Paradise of Death and Ghosts of N-Space which would likely take up a disc if they were to put it here [maybe on wilderness years tho but likely to be on 11 narratively] taking it to 6

Also the Planet of the Spiders 1974 Omnibus on it’s own disc too taking it to 7, maybe more bonus features could take it to 8.

As for Season 6, I would say a disc per story for The Dominators, The Mind Robber, The Invasion, The Krotons, The Seeds of Death, The Space Pirates, & The War Games, making 7.

War Games and Invasion would both need a second disc, but Mind Robber would fit even with the Tales of the Tardis version as they would add some video mapping as not to add lots more data and just add the new scenes which it takes it to 9.

War Games would need a third disc making 10, but even a fourth – or some shuffling to make some of those features go on it’s own bonus depending on how many new features there are.

      Probably 9-11 diss for S6.

@dphill thats interesting then as i spotted on pictures today a season 11 art with 6 discs and pg rating dk if it was fake or even fan made though

    • Gordon

      July 3rd, 2025 - 10:26am

Most likely 7. Those 2 90s audios won’t take up a lot of space as it’s just audio. Paradise could go on the time warrior as it follows on from that and n space go on death to the daleks as it follows that. The spiders omnibus could go on the bonus disc. Probably still leaves room for other things

    • Gordon

      July 3rd, 2025 - 12:10pm

Thats a very impressive fan made cover Tom it’s been floating round for at least a few years

    • DPHill

      July 3rd, 2025 - 1:25pm

You’re right they probably could do it in 7 comfortably with enough new material, i really don’t know which other six-parter will get a bonus disc as I imagine planet of the spiders will for the fact it is his finale, so we definitely have a Season 10 style 6 discs plus the omnibus finale getting the bonus one – which other do you think? I think it depends on what extra versions there may be – either for monster of peladon an omnibus, or even for dinos or updated effects on that one

    • DPHill

      July 3rd, 2025 - 1:26pm

Also, I wonder if they would include the big finish audio for Doctor Who and the Daleks in the Seven Keys to Doomsday on there somewhere, I know Season 3 has yet to come out and could include the Curse of the Daleks, but Season 26 did not include the Ultimate Adventure so it is possibly quite unlikely isn’t it unless that [or all three] go on a wilderness years set.

Could be completely wrong but I’m not sure there will be an announcement today. With it being Jodie’s first big finish release I kind of expect they won’t want anything getting in the way of that

Decided to expand on my idea abit. If memory serves me right, canonically Benton became a car dealer post army, im sure that what the brig says in mawdryne he walks around his showroom with talking about various features of cars (probably a land rover) and how it’s good for escaping daleks autons ect. Then there can be a hover craft and mention chasing after crystal thieves. Lastly there can be the whomobile and when someone talks about what would you need an odd car like that for. Say its great for escaping a t rex. The customer looks confused and exclaims a t rex, Benton says yeah like that one pointing at a T rex. Then him and the customer hop in the whomobike and “fly” off. He then turns to them and says well how about that for a test drive do you want to pay cash or dicuss finance. John Levines a born salesman and I think could absolutely nail it.

So does everyone think we should get a trailer for the next dr who the collection blu ray?

    • D84

      July 2nd, 2025 - 7:41am

If rumours of an autumn release do prove to be correct, then yes a trailer / announcement for the next set could land this month

We have the admission from Pete M that a futher “epic” trailer beyond the S15 Leela one was in the can (i think) and we have not seen that yet as S25 and S7 were clips so there is something to come in that manner

Although not sure who you would base it on if that was for S13 as most of the main cast are sadly no longer with us

It could centre around Sgt Benton possibly?

If that trailer is not for S13 i would guess its for S21

    • Prowl 1701

      July 2nd, 2025 - 7:46am

I’m hoping we get something this month. I think Pete said a awhile back that half of a trailer was in the can already.

    • Barney

      July 2nd, 2025 - 9:05am

I’d be surprised if we got a bigger trailer for 13, as you say for the practical reasons that most people are no longer with us. And if you were going to base a trailer on benton, surely an invasion of the dinosaurs season 11 would fit better for that. Season 21 makes a lot more sense to me assuming its not a Season 1 one with Carol Anne ford or Season 5 or 6 with Frazer. Could easily of filmed something with him around the time he was back in character for tales of the Tardis, and I Imagine he’d be quite willing. Can see him now in a castle kilter up swigging whiskey by the fire telling some of his kids about his adventures. There’s loads of possibilities but I just dont see it being 13…..unless they theme it around suetekh maybe but still that’s tenuous compared to strength of options for other season’s

    • D84

      July 2nd, 2025 - 11:28am

That sounds about right re “half in the can” – @ Prowl

Yea exactly, i just dont see it being as practical to base a trailer for S13 based on surviving cast and “what they could be doing now”

S21 seems more likely for an “epic” trailer to me

    • Rob

      July 2nd, 2025 - 11:59am

You know off topic, is John Levene the only person who’s not had a scene since he left the show as Benton either in the show, TARDIS tale or trailer?

I noticed he was dressed in an army uniform and sat in Bessie in an article for DWM, wouldn’t it wonderful if they could film a short scene for the collection sets. I was so pleased for Carole Anne to have a short clip in the show recently.

    • Missyrules

      July 2nd, 2025 - 2:02pm

He did do wartime but yes, nothing for since he left in the main show. He was meant to be in the five doctors (the unit man who greets the second doctor at unit HQ, which would of course have been a different version if Benton was in it) but he declined it.

When we finally complete the classic series collections, what you guys are saying around 2030, that leaves me at 73 years old (cripes).

And assuming all is well in the world, we still have the Wilderness years to come, so that could take us into 2031, unless we get 3 collections in a year? (A possibility).

I would definitely buy S1 (2005) collection, very interested in that season, if it was to happen.

Could you imagine. So be the vanilla dvds, tardis box set, slimmer tardis box set, 1-4 box set, 1-7 blu ray box set , remastered blu ray s1-4 box set. Then The Collection.

Is any of 2005 onwards who available or done in 4K?
I know twice upon a time was released on its own in 4K. Curious if that would be the next step after Collections done.

    • Gareth

      June 26th, 2025 - 2:22am

I’d love it to happen and know some who work on the classic series “The Collection” range would love it to happen too ( Chris Chapman , for one) but .. I think it’s a much more complicated proposition.
Series 1-4 could be improved in terms of fidelity but only marginally- there’s only so much upscaling you can do. They could , of course sort out all those niggling errors – only some of which have been addressed on the latest editions.
I don’t think you could hope for the same candidness and transparency that you frequently saw and still see in some of the VAM we enjoy on the collection sets of the classic series.
They would have to approach it differently. And in terms of key contributions you would be praying for a lot of good will if you wanted say, “In Conversation with Matt Smith” ? I’m not saying it couldn’t happen but without “mates rates” it could prove so prohibitively expensive as to be a non-starter? Of course they could adopt a more thrifty approach to documentaries. It’s not unworkable, but if it happened the value added content could appear markedly different compared to the DVDs / Blu-rays of the classic series?

As you have commented, I have also been contemplating at what age ‘The Collection’ sets might be finished for the Classic series…

They really are fantastic sets and it’s great when a new set gets announced for pre-order.

    • Gordon

      June 28th, 2025 - 9:26am

Was too young to remember any of the classic era. I was 4 when it ended. Do remember going in to hmv with my dad looking at the enormous (or at least in my mind) vhs selection and asking dad what’s that? Have vague memories of watching dimensions in time but more for the whole 3d gimmick. Don’t remember anything about mcgann. I watched some of the s7 Pertwee omnibuses on gold but didn’t really get what it was about. Then obviously the show came back which properly opened the door for me.

    • Prof Horner

      June 28th, 2025 - 3:48pm

Prof, I remember bits of three. The doctor and jo in the mine cart and that fabulous cliffhanger with the maggot crawling towards jo. I only remember alpha centauri from monster of peladon but not the ice warriors which is annoying! My memories of watching full episodes start with episode 6 of planet of the spiders. And I’ve watched ever since.

Hi Gordon, so as far as you know, do you think Season 13 will be out in September or October this year and Season 21 In March next year? Thanks

    Reply
    • Gordon

      June 19th, 2025 - 11:51pm

Think September/October is likely for the next release which seems to be pointing at 13 . The bbc today announced a complete red dwarf set for the start of October so it would kind of fit in the time frame if it’s announced in the next few weeks. Things can slip but marchish 2026 for 21 seems likely

    • Tom Williams

      June 20th, 2025 - 2:52am

I really hope its October more as season 25 was brilliant last year when it came out especially next one being season 13 i guess we would get this as 7/8 discs ? And then season 21 same as season 2/20 9 discs ?

    • 4th Doctor

      June 20th, 2025 - 9:34am

      NEED SEASON 13

    • Gareth

      June 20th, 2025 - 12:31pm

I’ve just heard from someone that 13 and 21 have swapped places. This was my source who was adamant ( along with several others) that 13 was up next. I don’t know if there’s any truth in this and I’ve reached out to them for more info which might or might not be forthcoming.

    • Tom Williams

      June 20th, 2025 - 2:14pm

My opinion i think that could just be rumours as we had a tease from lee binding a few weeks ago on colours unless they have made a last min alteration which cant be possible seeing as we would get a actual announcement on 3/10 july would be too sudden too change

    • Gordon

      June 20th, 2025 - 11:54pm

Hypothetically it’s possible last minute if s21 is also ready to go or the decision was changed at the beginning of the year as it’s about 4-6 months production time per set. From what I’ve heard this afternoon it’s neither of these. S21 apparently isn’t ready to go. Mark strickson is over in the uk in September filming. Though no confirmation the person that told me heavily implied it was to film season 21 extras. When I asked if it could be for a season he’s not involved in like 19 or 23. Well he’s not coming half the way across the world just to do extras for a season he’s not involved with. Probably not viable to do that. The 19 and 23 extras fitted in when he was already over for other things in 2018

    • Gareth

      June 21st, 2025 - 12:14am

Yeah. I thought it was the usual source it wasn’t ( there is a chain to this, for me) I think it’s very unlikely for the reasons you have stated and I had always understood S21 was going to be another 9 disc behemoth and given Marks availability in the early autumn this really imo points towards a spring 2026 release.

    • Gareth

      June 21st, 2025 - 12:34am

@Tom Williams I think that probably is the case. I’m not saying this source has now been dismissed but nobody else is currently supporting their suggestion.
Gordon also has provided some really helpful and illuminating information.
After the switcheroo rumour I reported , I did belatedly hear from my OG source that the announcement will happen in July for the next set – the lead in time is shorter because Lee’s colour tease was apparently delayed because of Series/ Season 2 PR ( apparently this actually is a thing) and that it’s scheduled for September not October.

    • Prowl 1701

      June 21st, 2025 - 12:38am

So if it isn’t 13 or 21 I suppose the most obvious choice would be 16?

    • Gareth

      June 21st, 2025 - 12:55am

@ Prowl 1701 Actually that’s about the least likely one to be released next. Because if nothing else, Lee’s Bindings narrative about how these were not his original colours for the cover, pretty much rules it out, seeing as they would ( and have on DVD) complimented S16’s iconography perfectly.

    • Tom Baker

      June 21st, 2025 - 12:57am

      DEFINITELY 13

    • Prowl 1701

      June 21st, 2025 - 2:43am

@Gareth, that’s what was throwing me off too. I mentioned in my youtube video (YT channel Another Scifi guy)when Lee first dropped the tease that he said the colors were originally similar to another set that came out recently. And I thought that Lee’s tease for season 7 has colors that also would have worked for 13. I was fairly confident 13 was next.

    • Tom Williams

      June 21st, 2025 - 9:43pm

@Gareth but how would September be possible unless they swapped round the next season with season 20 standard version? As there is others awaiting the next standard one too come out next season 25 wasnt delayed last year was it ? Only off course i remember it was pushed by another week off release for October 28th instead especially

    • DanielM

      June 22nd, 2025 - 1:56pm

@Gordon The Season 23 Sofa’s were filmed early 2019 so not at the same time as the Season 19 ones that Mark was involved with which was filmed mid 2018.

@Gareth Why would Lee Binding’s colour tease be delayed due to Season 2 PR? Since the posts aren’t giving anything away about what the next Set is. I doubt the BBC would be funny about that sort of stuff and the day that Lee showed the colours just happened to be the day he decided to show them off.

    • Barney

      June 22nd, 2025 - 3:44pm

      DanielM

I think they don’t want any pr for the classic collection sets during the pr for new who. Anything that could distract from it is seen as a negativity. Might also be thwt it shows up how excited and near universal praise the collection sets get and the buzz around the tease around the general lack of enthusiasm for anything new is probably a bit embarrassing and the closer they are together the more obvious it is.
For me they have different audiences and very little cross over bar the user fan that must love all who. but it doesn’t get seen that way by those in charge

    • Craig F

      June 22nd, 2025 - 9:29pm

      Interesting point Barney.
Still it’s gonna be a Tom for sure weather it’s season 13 or 16 I’m happy.

    • Gordon

      June 23rd, 2025 - 6:59am

Daniel M. I think you may have been right. I actually forgot a few of the season 20 extras were filmed quite a bit in advance. I’m sure it was filmed while he was doing something els. Maybe the season 20 behind the sofa or the kings demon making of.

    • Gareth

      June 24th, 2025 - 12:33pm

@DanielM It does seem odd to me, agreed. I guess you could argue it’s part of the marketing push for the next collection set, but feels a bit tenuous to me.

@Tom Williams Personally I think it will be October , but was advised September. I could be wrong about this as I don’t follow the standard editions closely, but hasn’t their scheduling been a little more tricky to predict for some time?

Hardbacks first released then 6 months later the paperback gets released. With these sets could be limited first released then the following year do the standard. Looking online if you ignore the first 4 sets to be released it’s roughly 2 years after (some s month or few early or later).
S12 and s19 came out 5 months of each other then 3 years later they had standards on same day. S10 and s18 came out almost 4 months of each other then both standards 2 years later same day.
As i say everything after that is rule of thumb 2 years after limited the standard gets released.

Any news if they will do 2005 sets? Maybe start with a Tennant set to test the water and give a bit more time for The animations to catch up for s3/s4. As he is most popular seems the right choice like they did when these sets began. Tom most popular of Classic era. I’d go with series 2. His first series like s12 for Tom.

I think 2 years gives enough time for some limited sets to sell out.

it’s too soon to even think about 2005 era who considering the rtd1 era just had a remastered rerelease about 18 months back. If it happens it’s most likely a couple of years off. Considering how little restoration work the 9/10 eras need bar the next doctor the focus would most likely be on new features and for that I feel they will need all or at least most of the main players involved. There is definitely a lot of potential bonus features taken from the classic era for 2005 era collection releases like stripped for action, tomorrow’s times and season overviews as well as collection era features like behind the sofa and in conversation plus how can you not do a Bernard Cribbins biography. I do think the best testing point for the 2005 era is season 1 because if it fails its at least a full era.

Get bit soon just a thought it would give a gap for more time to get s3 sorted more.

Add the 20 years documentary to the set. Only thing would a Chris come back to do anything for it? Obvs everyone else be up for it but maybe not barrowman and Clarke. With it being released almost 2 years ago as you say nothing really to be done to the eps just the added extras from classic collection as you say behind the sofa, in conversation, location revisits.

I get what you mean if it fails only series 1. But why did they start with s12 for classic instead of s1 when it was tested? Other hand can’t see it failing as any Doctor Who release sells. Obvious some Doctors more popular then others.

Would be good if they decide to do the wilderness set and add a trailer for series 1 box set as a bonus extra unannounced to anyone until it’s unpackaged and found. Hidden Easter egg.

@james, I’d imagine s12 started the Collections because it’s a Tom season and he’s always the most popular Doctor, it’s a highly regarded season, it needed very little work done to it as the episodes are all in good condition, and it’s relatively short season at only 20 episodes.

S1 would have been, and still is, a much more complicated affair.

Personally the first 20 years should be on the series 2 (2025) set. It’s only the first 10 mins that covers the first season.

If the money and conditions are right I’m sure Christopher would do it. Think if he was given free rein on a Mathew sweet interview and maybe have Billie on behind the sofa or commentary I could see him maybe open to it. Just don’t expect any interactions with rtd or anybody that has issues with. The classic range has been able to interview numerous people who have long term issues with each other like Eric Saward and Colin baker without them being together so I’m sure something could be worked out.

Think there are 1 or 2 people from season 1 that won’t get interviewed due to being problematic. Bruno Langley (Adam) absolutely won’t be interviewed or involved considering what he got convicted. Noel Clarke wont be either. There is far too many question marks over him even without conviction. I don’t think they would take the risk. Barrowman is probably 50/50. All depends on if he’s forgiven in the next 5 years. Not to minimise what he’s done or go into it heavily or pick sides I think he’s more likely to be forgiven in the next 5 or so years as it was never seen as being malicious.

I think the 2005 era has far more room for failure. Unlike classic who which never got blu ray releases outside of spearhead the tv movie, power and shada the 2005 era has had blu ray’s at least twice so far. There is far less of an incentive to upgrade this time around. Secondly a lot of these people are far more in demand than the classic era stars thus more expensive hires. It may make these sets far more expensive to produce. Thirdly you got to think where the market is going to be in 5 years time when it potentiallly starts or 10ish years when that era of release ends. Will there still be a sustainable market then? Even with boutique releases propping up the market it’s is still declining.

As for the classic era starting at 12. It’s the earliest season that is both complete and in good picture quality throughout plus it has a classic doctor companions and 3 of the big monsters in Daleks cybermen and Sontarans. Seems the obvious place to go.
