October 3rd, 2021 - 10:50amSo what are are views on when the next Blu ray collection will be released? The smart money seems to be on season 17. My own feeling is it will be now released in January of next year, say the 10th. I know there is talk of the 13th of December been the release date, but as never release them on the date they originally say it seems unlikely to me. If it is January then there is a good chance we may get three collections next year . Say season 20 and another Pertwee. What do we think?
Auton
October 3rd, 2021 - 1:25pmI totally agree, though I don’t think 20 will be next year as I’m sure they still want to film in Amsterdam so perhaps season 21,22 or 25 instead with pertwee most likely season 9

October 11th, 2021 - 2:03pmWith S17 now announced yes lets look at next year.
Agree with you on the Pertwee possibility, there are still 3 sets to go – but depends how much restoration is required I guess.
They may be rumbling along in the background for a release further down the line (especially the stories that have already had colour restoration for DVD) – they may be harder to bring up to Blu Ray standard – just a guess.
I do think its highly likely we will see a Davison set soon as we have 2 to go and we’ve not had a Davison set since 2018 (I think)
Beyond that, I cant see them completing either 6th or 7th doctors sets before there are only 1 or 2 to go per doctor so maybe another Tom set? 13, 15 & 16 all to go yet.
That would be my prediction for the 2022 release schedule based on nothing by my own opinions and guesswork around what we’ve had and what is left to go.
I sincerely hope that S1 – 6 receive the collection treatment only when a full season is ready to go combining surviving episodes plus new animation (throw in the telesnaps as an extra rather than the main feature) so for me we are 1-2 years away from seeing any Hartnell or Troughton sets. Just my opinion
I’d really rather not have a Collection set with Telesnaps etc in it soon, and then in a couple of years a revised super super special collection edition that is completed with animations (if – and once they are all done)

August 31st, 2021 - 10:57amSome twitter rumblings that the next set might be 22. I’d be happy with that though it would be surprising to see both of colin’s seasons out before the half way point. Varos and revelation is great. Mark is underrated. Attack and 2 doctors has some fun moments but the whole isn’t as good as some of its parts. Timelash is a dud but nearly every season has its dud

August 31st, 2021 - 11:41amI was rather hoping it would be 15 or 16. 16 first as its the only mary tamm and it spaces out louise and lallas 15 and 17. Leaving toms highly coveted season 13 as his last.

August 31st, 2021 - 11:45amYou missed out rani gordon or isnt that worthy of a mention?
Gordon
August 31st, 2021 - 11:56amI mentioned rani. I mentioned mark is underrated
The ergon
August 31st, 2021 - 11:57amSorry gordon skipped down and missed your underrated comment.
The ergon
August 31st, 2021 - 1:45pmGiven its faults, could you elaborate when you say underrated gordon?
Gordon
August 31st, 2021 - 2:48pmWell it’s got this reputation of being a bit dull but I’ve always enjoyed it. It has been a few years since I’ve seen it though. It’s probably pip and Jane baker’s best who script (I know it’s not exactly a high bar) Colin is great as usual with what he is given. Kate o Mara is just superb as the rani. I can see why jnt wanted to bring her back. Love the setting and the music is 1 of the better scores of season 22. But I’m not totally blind to its faults. Anthony ainley really shouldn’t have been brought back as he really wasn’t given much meaningful to do and when he was given stuff to do Kate o Mara outshined him. I could be remembering the wrong story but I seem to remember there was a fair amount of bickering between the doctor and peri which had gotten tired by this point. Also the tree costume really didn’t work from memory.

August 31st, 2021 - 3:23pmTo be honest, I’ll be happy with whatever they release. I’d prefer something earlier, but given the amount of work required for the earlier seasons it may be impractical at this point.
24 had huge amounts of extra material, so maybe this could be similar (although I expect they’ll omit a certain sketch with Six and Tegan).
The ergon
August 31st, 2021 - 3:49pmWasn,t there an edited version of a fix with sontarans on the bred for war boxset?
The ergon
August 31st, 2021 - 4:07pmGordon i do agree the master was superfluous to the rani and an hindrance. Those geordie accents don,t get any better with the passing of time and the scene with the doctor being attacked by the luddites was pathetic. The tree wasnt bad until the branched moved but admittedly there was still scenes i like and still amuse me like josh’ mates exaggerated death gurgle and the ranis explosive painting. And youre so right about the bickering, the dialogue was awful and by timelash was giving me an headache. It really should have been a more relaxed warmer relationship as seen at the beginning of the mysterious planet.

August 31st, 2021 - 5:39pmI still think season 15 is the next one with season 9 and 21 being after 15. But if it is season 22 I’ll still be happy as i enjoy all the stories even timelash
Garrett Cullen
August 31st, 2021 - 6:07pm22 may well be my most wanted season but I don’t want it anytime soon because I don’t want all my favourites coming too soon in the release schedule I want to always have some personal favourites to look forward to, my most wanted being 2, 6, 9, 13, 15, 20,21, 22. and 9, 15, and 20 have been already rumoured. I was prepared and happy for either 15 or 20 but this if true has taken me by surprise, surely it’s time for a 60s season by now?
Gordon
August 31st, 2021 - 8:05pmAssuming it is season 22 next I do wonder if maybe Tom is still shielding. Considering Covid is still a thing and the delta wave is ongoing and effecting those that are jabbed I wouldn’t blame him with his age if he wanted to stay at home and not be around a film crew at present. If Tom isn’t available and mark Strickson doesn’t appear to be able to travel to the U.K. any time soon and the 60s aren’t ready it does kind of limit on what they can do. Only really leaves 7,9 and 11 for pertwee 22 for colin and 25 for McCoy and considering both pertwee and McCoy got a set this year and it’s probably too soon for another it really just leaves colin
Prof Horner
September 1st, 2021 - 10:12amNot the first person to suggest that the reason we won’t get another Tom Baker season is because of his age . Which makes sense,we want the great man to be with us for many years to come. Having said all that ,Colin Baker is not young either, he is 78 as is McCoy. As for the season ,we have had the panto season in 24, now it’s the video nasty season in 22. I suppose you can say that it gets another very poor season out of the way. Needless to say I won’t be buying it. Stay safe everyone.
Auton
September 1st, 2021 - 11:25amThe only problem with season 22 being next is if they want to film something in Spain for the two doctors they most likely can’t due to restrictions so wouldn’t that make season 22 unlikely to be next. As I said before I’ll be happy with whatever season gets released. I’m sure they have Tom Baker’s health in mind but it doesn’t mean season 15 is unlikely as they could still film interviews with just him with a minimal interview crew safely. If you take the web of fear making of or the up and coming evil of the daleks making of a few people in that are in their 80s so i still think season 15 is next but I’ll be happily proven wrong.

July 24th, 2021 - 4:24pmHi Guys. I need some advice.
So far I have seasons 18, 19 and 23 on Limited Edition.
But I’m thinking of getting rid of those bulky versions, and just collect the standard versions instead. As they seem to be slimmer, cheaper, and look better on the shelf.
Also the standard editions seem to be a lot cheaper too. (Season 10 has already dropped to £33).
What’s everyone’s thoughts? Are the standard editions much different to the limited editions…..?

July 25th, 2021 - 6:31pmCardboard slipbox, discs in a blue case. I only have the re-released S12 and the booklet in that is only 12 pages. My opnion, save your money for something you haven’t got yet mate.

July 23rd, 2021 - 11:33amDoes anyone know if there will be another new box set released this year?

July 23rd, 2021 - 11:43amWho knows but i believe they have already started filming stuff for upcoming sets so I do think with 5 months left in the year 1 more should be announced and released this year

July 23rd, 2021 - 6:20pmOne more expected this year, season 15 heavily rumoured
Nothing is confirmed or definite

July 27th, 2021 - 3:02pmI would hope we at least get an announcement of another set – even if the release date is tbc. Although of course for that I would imagine they will want a trailer to have been written and filmed plus all the extras at least confirmed – if not fully filmed. That may have been difficult over the past few months and with ageing actors they may not have wanted to risk it. We’ll see I guess

July 7th, 2021 - 12:56amNaturally I disagree with virtually all of the Davison team criticism on Behind the Sofa. Firstly, they are not watching the whole show only extended clips so it is impossible for them to get the context of Delta, for example Peter Davison complains the score is massively inappropriate, I think it is excellent, Delta is a parody without being a spoof. Contextually it is not supposed to be taken seriously, some might even describe it as a Comedy Who like The Gunfighters or The Myth Makers. It is played so straight it is hilarious, Billy and Ray help repair a space ship engine which looks like a bus without batting an eyelid. The immediate acceptance of the green baby popping out of an egg the lovely ‘he was ionised’ line in that charming Welsh accent. Nothing in Delta is questioned and that is deliberate. The classic old cinema chase music is perfect for Bannermen it captures the mood of the madness.
At least Colin Baker watched it with a more open mind

July 7th, 2021 - 2:40amI thought of you when I was watching Delta for the first time. I enjoyed it. Review is coming soon on the channel.

July 9th, 2021 - 1:29pmColin, Michael Jayston, Sylvester, Bonnie, and Sophie are absolute delights on the behind the sofa feature… I must admit I find Peter, Janet, and Sarah rather trying at times in these segments. Season 24, in my opinion, is much more engaging than many 5th Doctor stories.
I must say about Colin in particular, though: isn’t he just brilliantly lovely and funny?
Such a fantastic set –here’s hoping season 25 isn’t too far away!

July 9th, 2021 - 3:01pmI quite enjoy the davision era sofa but I do think Janet fielding is overused on the behind the sofas but still she is great

July 9th, 2021 - 7:24pmColin is a lovely man, met him at a signing when I was a little boy and really shy. He was so friendly and incredibly talkative, asked my name and said it was a good footballing name, he asked if I supported Bristol Rovers or City, so engaging. His love for the show has always been evident. It hurt him so much to get sacked and to do this feature on the series he refused to Be involved in all these years later is a testament to his character.
I get Davison and Fielding not so much Sutton, but their criticism is sometimes too much, they seem to be judging the whole JNT era by their spell but it did massively improve during the McCoy years. The best JNT series were the first two and the last two for me. Also watching 24 in this new light I think it’s better than a lot of series 20 and 21!

July 6th, 2021 - 7:34pmI have just been watching episode 2 of Dragonfire on the Blu-ray set. I have a strange blurry box near the beginning when Kane is speaking to the ice sculptor. It’s down the bottom of the screen and lasts about 5-8 seconds then vanishes. It’s not the player because when I go back, it’s in the same place every time. Anyone else seen this?
Philip Shaw
July 6th, 2021 - 8:18pmThis is on the extended version, it is the time clock, as it was the only available print of that extended scene. They did the same on the ‘workprint of Ghostlight and blurred out the clock which was prominent on screen. Nothing wrong with the disc or print.
The Loiterer
July 6th, 2021 - 8:36pmIs that scene included in the raw studio footage material? Sometimes a comparison will reveal something in shot that wasn’t meant to be there, with a fix attempted either at the time or for the disc.
The Loiterer
July 6th, 2021 - 8:42pmAh, the extended version! So I wasn’t missing something and my eyes are fine. Phew. Thanks, Philip.
