We’ve already got the best McCoy Season with 26
I would love 25 to come out soon but I’ll take 24 – Delta and the Bannermen is brilliant in my opinion, no other Doctor Who on Heaven or Earth is anything like it, it is nothing but fun, if not taken too seriously it’s a joy to behold. Can’t wait to see it with the best possible picture and sound. Looking forward to the making of too.
Paradise Towers I’ve grown to like more over the years, clever ideas perhaps not brilliantly realised and some rather over the top acting at times but enjoyable.
Time and the Rani is pretty much Time and the Rani.
Dragonfire I don’t like but quite a few do so fair play
I’ve gone to the amazon checkout with it

Me being a bit OCD couldn’t really leave out a season off the shelf because it was a bit poor compared with others. I’m in it for the lot. I can honestly say I’ve not liked the odd story over the classic years, but never an entire season…

Shame. They could throw it on. On SD though. They’d need a Blu ray 100 to have all that.

Maybe in the “Collection: extra stuff” boxset

Season 24 boxset looks amazing! The delta and the bannermen making of was definitely missing from the dvd release so it’s nice to have a new one made. All three behind the sofa teams are great especially having the other 80s doctors reacting to season 24. The 25 hours of studio and location footage is amazing and another doctors table is amazing as well. The season stories might not be the best but they’re fun and with all these new special features it can still stand as another amazing collection boxset

I hope they include the CGI regeneration of Colin to Sylve from the original DVD. So much better than whipping off the blond wig with a bit of fishing wire and hoping a blurry bit over the top hid it!

Little bit of a gripe, if I theoretically wanted to order from Zavi and have it ship to the US, it’d be $73! That’s way too high. My only other alternative is to wait for the cheap janky US release which would be $30 cheaper.

Fabulous. So much Joy and love and fun. This is a superb seeason, with flaws (like many one could say) But non of them in the scripting, as they all rattle along perfectuly. its 80s design, which is Back again Nostalgia wise.

24 Carat is superb,..what a brilliant trailer. Very clever filming in these difficult times. A huge Burst of Joy. just what we need.

So many extras and hours of it too. lets see how quickly the first person says, done it all this time:)

Its great they finally have doctors giving their opinions on other doctors stories. The behind the sofa teams look as though they are having a field day ridiculing sylvesters first season. Hope he gets to do the same ribbing Colin and Peter in the season 21 release. The worst for me are parts of Delta and the Bannermen. couldn,t they have found 2 or 3 girls that actual look alike. the naff alien baby with the painted green face in the romper suit and the rundown holiday camp. Couldn,t they have got someone to have gone around with a lawn mower and given those chalets a lick of paint. Its supposed to be the 1950s, everything looks rundown and rusty. And Finally the Bannermen themselves who just come across as incompetent goons with red tongues. I could pick serious faults with all four stories but that was the story that irked me the most given the rest was quite good fun.i,m glad they,ve done a Making of, perhaps that might answer some of my questions.Dragonfire was the pick of a seriously flawed season. love the trailer.

It has its moments. Its a lightweight but fun Romp but i would have enjoyed a lot more had it not been for some of those points mentioned above. i couldn,t believe what i was seeing when i saw it on transmission in 1987, I thought they were intentionally trying to kill the show off, a lot like the way some people feel about the Jodie Era now. It just seemed like puerile trash. After this i only caught a handful of episodes as i didn,t like the direction Cartmel and co were taking it and i hated Mccoy initially, especially given how Grade and his cronies had treat poor colin Baker who was just starting to hit his stride and replaced him with this annoying buffoon but thats just how i felt at the time. I,ve softened to this season a lot over the years and I have grown more fonder of sylvester but i can,t help thinking once again what might have been.

At the time from what I saw of it I thought this season was just dreadful…nowadays it is great fun and there are loads of wonderful ideas. There are tell-tale signs that something great was coming too.

Particularly incredible range of extras on this set too so can’t wait to order!

For its faults I love this season. Kate O’Mara does Bonnie Langford, the Tetraps look great, the bubble traps, Bonnie screams. There’s a tour bus in space with Ken Dodd and a green alien baby in an egg in a holiday chalet, Bonnie screams. There’s a freezer centre in space with a melting villain and dragon, Bonnie screams. And finally one of my all time favourites a run down tower block with Nazi caretakers, old lady cannibals and there’s something in the pool, Bonnie screams. Camp, camp, camp. But the series was beginning to find its feet. One thing it’s not is predictable or cliched. Build high for happiness!

I have to say I have a real soft spot for this season. The McCoy years were the first I could record so I watched his stories endlessly and yes, season 24 is very much finding its feet but it’s still good fun. And it introduced ace!

      January 21st, 2021 - 6:21pm

They wouldn’t update just for that one regeneration scene and as you say some of those effects especially for ‘Time’ have held up quite well. It does feel a missed opportunity all the same. Maybe by the time they tackle 4k releases and the rest of the world is up to 16K+.

    • Gordon

      January 21st, 2021 - 12:39pm

I really don’t see it as strange. They all have to come out at some point.

    • JL

      January 21st, 2021 - 12:56pm

Personally I think it makes sense, especially if the next 2 sets after this one are a 4th doctor boxset and 5th doctor boxset, because then you have left (aside from b&w seasons):
      3 Pertwee sets (7, 9 and 11)
      3 Tom Baker sets (3 out of: 13, 15, 16 or 17)
      1 Davison set (1 out of: 20 or 21)
      1 Colin set (22) &
      1 McCoy set (25)

This means that if they came out at a rate of 3 sets a year, the next 3 years will each have a pertwee and Tom set, and then each year will have a different 80s boxset, allowing time for more animated episodes to be made that could be put onto a collection boxset i.e. seasons 1, 2, 5 and 6 arent far off being complete, with season 4 having had a lot of animations completed recently.

I know the animation teams and collection teams have no correspondence over what projects each should be working on, but it seems likely at the moment they are holding off doing a b&w collection set to allow for some more animations to be completed.

I think it’s likely we’ll see a season 1 set in 2023, with or without a marco polo animation, which would of course alter the pertwee, baker, 80s formula of 3 box sets a year for 3 years idea I proposed earlier

Furthermore, I think they chose season 24 over season 25 to do now because they know 25 is slightly better regarded (even though I adore both seasons) so they will leave it to be the grand finale of McCoy boxsets, similar to how I believe they’ll leave season 7 as the last Pertwee boxset and season 13 as the last Baker set, so that they don’t play all their best cards straight away, so to speak.

    • Anonymous

      January 21st, 2021 - 10:21pm

Season 23 & 26 are still quite available.
This is considered one of the “least popular seasons”. I’ll leave it to the last minute.

And Gordon I did say. I see why they would want it out. They can’t just start with all the popular ones.
