Mine arrived this afternoon. It was packaged in a cardboard box and in perfect condition. I watched the first seasons story, Planet of Giants (both as the three part and also four part episodes with the reconstructed episodes of 3 and 4). Liked it. I’m going to really enjoy this set.

Well mine arrived today from Amazon via Royal Mail in a big brown paper bag. Guess they are running low on their cardboard boxes..

And yes one corner was damaged so ordered a replacement. Lets see how many I have to order to get a perfect box.

Might have to start using hmv instead. How I miss the days of Zoom.

Just got mine from HMV, well packed in cardboard and undamaged – however there are a couple of manufacturing issues.
On the spine there’s some dodgy printing, looks like an ink smudge. Also inside, where the velcro catch sits for the booklet holder, the cardboard is split and damaged. Shoddy printing and assembly, I’m not sure I can be bothered sending it back though – anybody else have similar issues?

I wonder what’s the deal with Amazon and paper bags this time? However, I do know there has been a global shortage of cardboard (more supply chain issues), so that might be the issue.

I suppose if Amazon will be receiving many returns, reports and needed replacement of damaged sets due to using paper bags, someone there will hold an investigation (hopefully) so it doesn’t happen again with future sets. It might even lead to early selling out of the limited printing run if every Amazon customer needs 2 or more sets to get a good one!

Like Lee, I received a copy from HMV, well packed in a cardboard box. But I don’t have the printing smudges on the spine, nor the split and damaged card where the Velcro catch sits.

Yeah my corner was damaged in the Amazon paper bag.

The INTRO has SERIES 2 in text and voice over! Presume this is for the USA releases and NOT the UK!

I thought these things would be checked before the discs are mastered!

Robert: Bearing in mind some of the bigger things that they miss, this passing by doesn’t surprise me. If it was for the USA though it would still be “season” two, just “William Hartnell Season Two”.

      December 8th, 2022 - 4:46pm

Mine has also arrived in a brown envelope and all the corners and cover are all dented.

It was also nearly a week late from the original release date.

Think I will start ordering from Zaavi who seem to dispatch earlier and better packing.

Still haven’t received my set ordered on November 21st. No sign of it being despatched and now way of contacting Amazon as the messaging service now takes me to an app which can’t be accessed so I’m going round in circles. I am beginning to think it’s not going to turn up an I’ve been ripped off. Won’t be pre ordering these from Amazon any more.

Lots of people ordered way ahead of you, so you’re probably near the end of the queue. That plus supply problems means no dispatch yet. But they don’t charge before sending it out, so you shouldn’t be ripped off.

Does anyone else have one with a far too wide spine?

Over 1mm space on either side of the spine on my copy, whereas all of the others fit relatively well. Means it also stretches the J-card in the bottom corner which bulges the front of the J-card.

Considering buying another and sending this one back.

You did well with S10. Pricey ones are S10 (sold up to £200 on ebay used like new), S18, S19 and S26 (these three usually auctioneer’s favourite £80-120 used like new, but sometimes more – though S26 can be had for about £65). Other sets are still close to retail, especially if you don’t mind second hand.

      December 7th, 2022 - 7:48pm

Mine had this when it arrived, 10 days ago now, came on here and said i thought the glue was thin. No one of course noticed, but i had similar with season 8, ive superglued a thin piece of cardbetween the spine and back as a hinge. Without spoiling the decrotive image of the dalek on the inside back. I did not notice any larger than usual gaps on my set with both bookets they had a snug fit.

      December 7th, 2022 - 10:07pm

Back in stock now at both Amazon and HMV.

Despite this my Amazon order was still not despatching. Even the agent couldn’t understand why it was just “sat” and was as frustrated as me at the lack of action. Gave me a partial refund on my Prime and we setup a new order delivering tomorrow, so that’s OK. In the meantime I bagged an HMV order which also hasn’t despatched, so hoping to cancel that too. If not I’ll have two copies – no biggie, I can sell one at cost.

A right old carry on with this one!

Pre-ordered from Amazon not long after it went up for pre-order
Money taken out of bank account (granted, as a pending transaction) on Saturday last week
No confirmation of dispatch email Sunday/Monday as expected
I ordered another one from HMV just in case, as it goes temporarily out of stock at Amazon, then unavailable apart from via private sellers
    HMV dispatch the second one
Amazon then confirm dispatch late last night. And deliver it by 11am this morning
HMV one due to be delivered tomorrow or Thursday!
Well, I guess 2 copies is better than none, and one can be sent back!

Finally got my hands on it. Was delivered yesterday but to my neighbour. Royal Mail didn’t even try my house as there definitely was someone at home. No red card or anything to tell me they had it. If it wasn’t for Royal Mail emailing me I wouldn’t have known it had been delivered. The picture used as proof of delivery was so dark that I couldn’t tell where it was delivered to either.

My Amazon pre-order arrived Monday in a flimsy brown jiffy bag thing, and was dented and damaged. Had to have a refund from Amazon as yesterday this Collection was “out of stock”. Anyway I’ve just received the replacement I ordered from The Entertainment Store on Ebay, and it is in pristine condition. Came packaged in a proper cardboard sturdy box with air-bag type padding inside, and delivered in less than 24 hours. I’ve complained to Amazon (awaiting response), but they really need to get things sorted out. I’m fed up receiving damaged items from them.

    • bryan

      December 6th, 2022 - 3:27pm

The box spine has to be bigger to accom8date 1 tray extra, and the booklet housing has to have a space to fit into, without touching the disc tray,or the card may get marked.

      So it’s wider

    • D84

      December 6th, 2022 - 5:20pm

Whilst mine has arrived in perfect condition I too have noticed the spine section being 3-4mm longer than is should be so there is a gap when the front cover is closed.

I also had that on the S14 set but not seen it since

    • Samuel

      December 6th, 2022 - 5:49pm

      @David

      Regarding the corners of the boxset, here’s a bit of peace of mind, having learned this from comparing replacement orders from Amazon/Hmv/Zaavi etc;

You will find the hardback cardboard cover texture itself *always* varies with every single print – mostly squidged edges, lumps and bumps, sometimes even glue spots believe it or not. That’s purely from manufacturing, so as long as your boxset isn’t actually broken or fallen apart, then no matter what packaging the boxset came in, it is inevitable to get slightly rounded corners. It’s been that way since 2018.

    • Alan Silvester

      December 6th, 2022 - 7:57pm

Yes, David, mine arrived in a brown paper jiffy bag too and is very damaged. I’m having to return it to Amazon, and have ordered a replacement elsewhere – as Amazon don’t have any more in stock. Extremely disappointed with Amazon, having had this on order since it was announced.

Can’t believe this is already sold out on Amazon and HMV (although Amazon sellers have them) – when did that last happen? Might’ve been with some early ones – Seasons 17, 22 & 24 are still available on Amazon direct! Was Season 2 made in smaller quantities or is that its just mega popular?

My guess is due to the Royal Mail schedule changes, the whole system on these Retailer sites have had to pause and revise, hence “out of stock”. (Apparently Season 2 *is* now back online for sale on Amazon)

The strict limited stock strategy with Seasons 8,10,12,14,18,19,26 was, I think it’s fair to say, a huge mistake that catered to eBay resale sharks, hence you have Seasons 2,17,22,24 on a much fairer playing field for all fans to be able to save up and buy without all the pointless stress and price exploitation by sharks.

They do but to collectors out there, just be mindful that the box JUST fits and if you’re not careful, the outer cardboard piece maybe damaged if not treated with care, very much a “once its in, its not coming out” so if you keep the discs inside and intend to be pulling the set in and out, it might end on tears…….

    • Ben

      December 6th, 2022 - 2:30pm

Been unsure whether to get these protectors. I want to protect them especially with having got a few signed, but are they easy to handle when taking the sets out of them or is it a bit of a faff?

    • Anonymous

      December 6th, 2022 - 3:47pm

Until this set, they have fit perfectly and are really good. We’ll worth the investment BUT the bigger is designed for 8 disc sets, this one has 9 and the left side is slightly thicker as a result. It will fit, it’s good and solid but as soon as it went in I thought “that’s not coming out without effort”.

I take all the blu rays out in favour of putting them in custom plastic cases, just to preserve the card etc so once they are in the cases, I’m unlikely to get them back out.

    • Samuel

      December 6th, 2022 - 6:03pm

I am attracted to the idea of protective transparent sleeves – but for me it’s not worth it if I can’t access the discs regularly without snagging any J-cards, or having any cases loosely fit (or tight) since the collection sets either won’t line up neatly on the shelf, or the protective sleeves themselves will be destined to wear down over time (but I imagine would be perfect to use *if* you never ever intend to open the boxsets… In which case don’t even open the cellophane surely?

    • Rusty

      December 7th, 2022 - 6:25am

That is a fair point, I take my J cards off to display the clean art which helps with the snugness a little but it’s likely more delicate if it’s still on there

Like others, I pre-ordered this via Amazon back in August. We pay for Prime so obviously was expecting it to arrive at the weekend, slightly ahead of its Monday release. They took the money Saturday but I had an Expected Delivery date of the 10th. This was then revised to the 8th and my delivery was going to be by Royal Mail. Went on Amazon chat to have a bit of a moan, not because I was desperate for the set, it will be put away for Christmas anyhow, but because it’s not the service we paid for. Very wooly response but the upshot was that logistics were the issue and it wasn’t being sent from the usual depot. Apologised, told I just had to wait until Thursday, not attempt to offer a “goodwill” voucher – not that it bothers me I just saw mention above. Watch this space – I’m just grateful it was dispatched as others I know still haven’t had that happen yet!

Mine arrived today from Prime via Hermes. So I’d say Amazon have tried to shift from RM where they can (it’s their strike action that’s causing these delays, it’s not the fault of retailers such as Amazon) but probably haven’t been able to get enough capacity within the time frame.

I’ve had so many issues myself with Ebay sales I’ve sent which haven’t turned up because they’re still in a warehouse somewhere with the Royal Mail.

Roosta, I’m in the same situation as you. I spoke to someone at Amazon customer service via chat and they just stated the obvious that it was preparing for dispatch, but they have refunded my Prime membership for this month to make up for it not being with me for release.
Moodbeam, this isn’t a delay caused by Royal Mail, its a supply and dispatch issue. Amazon simply aren’t dispatching the boxsets until well after the release date. I had the same thing happen with the Specials Steelbook. Apparently they no longer offer one day delivery or delivery on day release for pre order items.

Mine hasn’t been dispatched yet but Amazon are usually very good there’s obviously a general issue with these sets possibly out of their hands but given the state the world is in with war and strikes I don’t mind waiting a little longer it’s taken long enough anyway, it will come when it comes

      I did the same… they’ve applied a £5 voucher to my account…

Anyone know what’s going on with this. My copy was ordered from Amazon the day the title was announced. There is no sign of it being dispatched by Amazon and the title is now out of stock. Is there an issue? The last few Collection releases did not go out of stock like this.

Mine was delivered today from Amazon

P.S. Annoyingly, they sent it a thick padded envelope rather than the usual cardboard protective oversized sleeve

I’ve had that with the Daleks 2150 box set. Terrible way to package an expensive limited item. Glad you received it though.

Mine was expected Wednesday but arrived today. Yeah it arrived in just a padded envelope but luckily arrived with no damage

Mine copy has arrived today – thankfully in perfect condition.

Mine was in a card wrap box not an envelope but it was loose fitting and had another product within it (that I had also ordered) so could have sustained some knocks in transit

      Thankfully it hasnt

Following the lengthy delay in S22 actually getting a release date (did we ever find out why), and now the terrible distribution of these sets, it’s getting like the B&M figures. Collecting is so difficult. First world problems eh

AS far as information goes ( see retailer set details regarding Asin numbers etc) the blu rays are made in Poland . Which had a huge influx of Ukrainian refugees,at he same ime a shortage of drivers best Europe.

A lot of drivers in Poland drove supplies ( sill do) to set up the camps in Poland. Factories shut down as other staff went to help in camp.*

Not sure what issues re S2 other than postal Delays Amazon warehouse issues.

As you say. First World issues

*my Aunt and husband live ( he is);Poland. There was a huge effort by the Polish population to get 4m people dry, fed, somewhere to sleep.

Nah, the B&M figures aren’t available from multiple online retailers for significantly less than RRP. Obtaining the Collection releases is as easy as pi(e) in comparison.

Me waiting for a Dr Who item compared to real problems shows that I live in a North Sea Bubble

I got that you weren’t being *entirely* serious, don’t worry – we’re still some way off of the Collection situation being that irritating, thankfully… But I really would like Daleks and Tardises that were available from multiple online retailers for significantly less than the RRP – that didn’t happen even before B&M because most of the classic figures were exclusive to Forbidden Planet. To give the Beeb credit, if there is a supply problem with The Collection they do usually rectify it.

Ordered in August with Amazon, was informed it had been dispatched on the 3rd, to arrive that day, never turned up. Informed it would be coming the next day, never turned up. I was then informed it was lost in transit so have requested a refund and will try my luck with HMV. Otherwise, if I am unable to get a copy now, at the retail price, will wait for standard release.

My copy from amazon has been dispatched but via Royal Mail. Which is annoying because now it’s due in a weeks time. Yet I pay prime and the reason I ordered on amazon was because of the delivery method!

I think given the time of the year and all the strike and industrial action you should just be grateful it is dispatched i ordered on Amazon and it has no been dispatched yet

Annoying but usually Royal Mail do deliver far earlier than predicted with Amazon. I think prime customers are taking priority with their own delivery service. My orders always get pushed to Royal Mail. I ordered my season 2 the day it was announced and it’s still not dispatched.

Amazon usually only go for Royal Mail as a last resort, don’t they? If it does take a while to arrive and you’re on Prime then it might be worth a moan (for a goodwill voucher).

I have Amazon Prime too and they haven’t even given me a dispatch date even though I ordered the set in November!

    • Harold Shand

      December 5th, 2022 - 4:36pm

I ordered on day it was announced via Amazon.

No sign of a dispatch and now its not even available to order on Amazon.

Someone posted that there were some logistics issues.

Its a bit disheartening when some get copies and others don’t, especially with pre-orders.

Amazon are usually very good so it has to be a supply issue

Royal Mail currently prioritise tracked 24/48 and special delivery. The managers are paid their bonuses on these.

HMV use tracked 48, Not sure about Amazon

Royal mail are trying to get all parcels out

Bobby Fackrell, I get there is strike action and i’m happy to wait. My point is that I pay a monthly fee to have prime delivery. Yet they have not used it. At the time of order it was a prime delivery product. Plus an amazon van came to my door with another parcel today, so can’t see why they couldn’t be on the same truck. Seems odd to me.

    • Bobby Fackrell

      December 6th, 2022 - 12:56pm

I’m a Prime customer too and there’s obviously a delay with the dispatching it’s probably that they have not received enough. They can’t do next day delivery if they have not dispatched yet none hasn’t been dispatched yet. The Prime benefit is you are not paying any carriage at all particularly premium
