Can’t wait to get into season 2. I met Peter Davison and Janet Fielding yesterday, and they both said Season 20 is due to be released in the summer.

Yes, they were both at Telford Comic Con along with Sylvester McCoy and Sophie Aldred. I complimented them for their appearances “Power of the Doctor”. Janet was wearing her outfit that she wore in that episode. Sylvester told me that it was a shock to him when he read the script that the seventh doctor and Ace had fallen out.

I got them to sign my Season 19 and Season 26 Blu-ray set!!! It was surreal to meet Janet looking exactly the same as she did in “Power of the Doctor”.

Very good news guys. We “think” S9 is next with a trailer due to drop anytime – could lead to a release before April, so if S20 is rumoured for “summer” that’s virtually anytime May – Early Sept in my book.

Here’s hoping a cheeky 3rd set gets squeezed in for a late release Nov / Dev to give us 3 sets next year

I alternate xmas specials each year. This year it will be The christmas invasion, The doctor, the widow and the wardrobe and twice upon a time but not one of those tops A christmas carol featuring Michael Gambon and Katherine Jenkins. Seeing as it’s the only time of the year I get my family to sit down and watch classic who I kind of have to be selective. Nothing too long and nothing continuity heavy. Normally something that came out on blu ray recently. Last year it worked out perfectly that I had got up to the 6 part version of shada that went down very well. Think it will be the romans as that is quite fun in my opinion.

No; I received an email of despatch very late last night and one from the Post Office advising of receipt (and that the 48 hrs was a delivery aim not a guarantee) an hour ago.

I wonder if there has been a supplier snafu. According to earlier posts, Zavvi have been posting out earlier the week. Maybe they were sent stock early by mistake. The supplier not realising this has split the remaining stock between all suppliers, including Zavvi, leaving everyone with less to sell, except for Zavvi who have been given a bit less than double their original order..

A train diversion for mailings from the main sorting, together with the strike by postal workers has seen the bulk order for season 2 held up. Hmv and Amazon orders together , zavvi had theirs because they only order a few.

    December 2nd, 2022 - 11:02pm

I just read a list of extras missing from the season 2 box set, and what interested me was the two missing Verity Lambert related features (an obituary and a photo gallery).
I remember reading a comment on this page from Gordon that Chris Chapman (the guy who makes some of the documentaries for the Collection sets) was working on a large feature-length documentary for a set four down the line. Gordon thought it was likely to be a biography and listed a few people he thought could warrant a feature-length documentary.

Seeing the Verity Lambert features missing from this set further makes me believe that the biography could relate to her: she’s important enough to warrant it, and the missing features imply at least a small section of a disc is dedicated to her.

Looking further into it, as she was the producer only for the first two seasons, the documentary would have to be on the season one box set.
I’d assume there would be a feature-length documentary for Hartnell on the season three box set (his last full season), and a Troughton one on either season 4, 5, or 6. Chris’ mystery biography could be any one of these three or someone else for another set, but what really interested me was that it was for a set four down the line.

This next part is pure speculation, but if season 2 was the first upcoming set (this comment was made in September), and we’re nearly certain the next two seasons are 9 and 20, could that mean an announcement for season 1 on Doctor Who Day? As Season 2 was just released this week, that would leave them the entirety of next year two release two more sets and announce another. That doesn’t seem more of a stretch than what they’ve done in the past, and as the world is normal enough it seems achievable. They said they don’t want to release things around events, but it seems too good to miss.

What do you guys think about this? I think it’s likely they’ll at least do a Verity Lambert documentary for a season 1 set, but when it comes is more educated guessing than anything.

Mary Tamm (16), Ian Marter (13) and Michael Craze (4) are all possible ones as well and ones I’m certainly hopeful for. We do have interviews already with Verity which will be put on season 1 or 3 but she would be great for a tribute as well

    • Pete X

      December 3rd, 2022 - 1:14pm

Season 1 could have four major biographies – William Hartnell, Jacqueline Hill, Verity Lambert and Sydney Newman.

As the biographies are instead of an interview by Matthew Sweet – at least for the Doctors and major players behind the scenes – biographies of Patrick Troughton and Jon Pertwee would be on Seasons 4 and 7 – since the other Doctors have had their interview included in their first season (Colin Baker excepted).

As well as those listed above and by others, major biographies could be of; Innes Lloyd (S3 or 4), Nicholas Courtney (S5 or 6), Barry Letts (S7), and Graham Williams (S15).

    • Auton

      December 3rd, 2022 - 4:52pm

Barry Letts, Nicholas Courtney and Jacqueline Hill have already been give tributes so they might not do another for those

    • Prof Horner

      December 3rd, 2022 - 7:25pm

Same with Caroline John on The Spearhead from Space blu ray.which also has a Jon Pertwee tribute.

    • Gordon

      December 4th, 2022 - 2:55am

I’m sure the verity tribute stuff will be on the mission to the unknown disc as it was the last thing she was credited on. There is also the possibility that they use the bbc 4 tribute from 2008 to verity called drama queen as it’s more in-depth but seeing as there is quite a bit of non bbc content I’m not sure it would be clearable for blu ray. I’m certain the person that Chris is talking about ain’t Michael craze as it was his birthday the other day and Chris mentioned he would love to do a tribute piece on him one day. I’m still thinking it’s either Troughton or Graeme Williams.

I very much think the biogs to the likes of Barry Letts, Jon Pertwee, Nicholas Courtney, Caroline John and Jacqueline hill are all pretty definitive. I just can’t see them doing another one especially as these sets only have so much time and money they have available. If they do another doc on say verity for season 1 that could mean that something else that they may want to do isn’t possible as the time and money may no longer be available. Season 1 has a few things that could be possible documentary’s.

      Season 1 overview
      William Hartnell tribute
      Sydney Newman tribute
Terry nation tribute (the tribute on destiny only covers his who career)
      John lucarotti tribute
      Marco Polo making of
      Sensorites making of

Well it is good that they are being dispatched, although Amazon are still saying Monday for me. Which will suit me fine as I always work Thursday to Sunday. so which is your favorite story of this season? For me it is The Time Meddler , Peter Butterworth is so good as The Monk and him and Hartnell bounce off each so well. The Chase fun to watch even though Richard Martin seem to have given up by now. The robot Doctor is really shoddy keeping camera on him too long, you clearly see it isn’t Hartnell. The haunted house is just plain silly.Still it is a good laugh. I haven’t seen The Rescue and The Romans for long time as I never got round to getting them DVD. I am looking forward to extras also. So enjoy this season when ever you get it.

Well thats season 2 then, but will wait until the weekend to watch, due to my working hours, but love the colour, and the booklet on next years issues for the 60th, will disappoint some of you. An absolute fantastic layout of the original tardis interior
In the booklet. The rest….ssssh. i won,t spoil. Those of you who are having theirs sent to poland and backthese should probably come by next weekend. As i told everyone on here two weeks ago where the prosses was, but was met sceptical verdicts i left it at that. Intresting the boxset for june 2023?
Want to know more, wait for yours to come.
No information leaflet, wrong retailer simple.

MARK – are you trying to imply theres information on 2023’s sets included in the Season 2 boxset?

    • Rex Farrel

      November 29th, 2022 - 12:52pm

Why would finished product be sent to Poland and back? Vantiva press the discs in Poland and send them here, as has been happening for a while.

    • Mark

      November 29th, 2022 - 2:15pm

Rex, i put your question to the guys in the factory, and we had a good laugh. You are getting warm though, but your also barking up the wrong tree, some things are just not possible, alot of cardboard is needed for these sets, i wonder where that goes. having now told you with a clue. I hope this helps your journey for answers, for its just another day visiting and delivering and not once do i leave the uk. I like the made up stuff though, very funny at times,

    • Mark

      November 29th, 2022 - 2:52pm

Rex , you should try some french.
Or am i missing something from a parallel universe. May be its the work of the master. Or perhaps tennants doctor. Either way. Season 2 is a good boxset to start on for the black and white days. Enjoy yours if and when it finally comes!. Its cold in swindon today.
Saw colonel criton shopping, i wonder where hes gone for season 2. Still better than nothing, from an old barnpot.

    • Rex Farrel

      November 29th, 2022 - 3:17pm

Mark, I think it’s your writing style that makes you a bit hard to understand (hence the near silence for your original post, which seemed double-Dutch – that’s not scepticism in response, that’s bewilderment). I’m now taking it that you’re saying the cardboard packaging is mostly being sent to Poland for final product assembly, but initial smaller batches were assembled here earlier in the year and are ready to go? I do get what you’re saying about the amount of cardboard though, and look forward to viewing the set in two years time when the sturdier and more compact standard edition is released. (Even HBO have long since given up on the novelty packaging, so it was quite annoying to see BBC Studios pick up the habit. Lagging behind as always…)

    • Gordon

      November 29th, 2022 - 5:49pm

Wouldn’t pay too much attention Rex. He’s had a bit of a history of posting absolute drivel (Richard bignell’s words) on twitter and passing it off as insider info. Richard even called him out on it. https://twitter.com/NothingLane/status/1480905093809643523?cxt=HHwWhoC56cXVnY0pAAAA

Btw a friend got his copy today from zavvi and there is absolute no hints of any future releases or June 2023 release though it wouldn’t suprise me if there was one considering we got a release on that month the last 2 years

    • Rex Farrel

      November 30th, 2022 - 6:55am

Thanks, Gordon. Sometimes I do think maybe I’ve missed something, so it’s rather reassuring that I’ve not just missed the boat here. (And probably not a boat taking discs to Poland…) I’m looking forward to reading the comments and mini reviews from people over the next few days – people who have exactly the same set as everyone else…

    • Bobby Fackrell

I’ve said it before this is my go to for Doctor Who Merc news and 99% of the other posters are good eggs and I enjoy interacting with them. Most Whovians get the brief on this website and the odd attention seeker I just ignore so Rex let him and the guys in the factory have a good laugh at you if that makes them happy and we’ll talk series two sensibly, looking forward to next week

    • Mark N

      December 1st, 2022 - 6:55pm

Well done rex, youve hit it on the spot, exactly what i meant. And im not trying to be double dutch.
It just when i read that some are ordering from poland.
Why! Also when you know where these boxsets go after they are put together you then understand.
But its a waste of time and effort informing those if all they do is turn round tell you its from poland.
Hope its not double dutch makes better reading.
My job is deliverys and in dispatch i visit sevral places.
One is swindon, the other is daventry, here the next release for the collection builds and stores. Hope this helps. Taking some of the guess work out of the equation. The shell trays inside your collection sets are made in manchester, not poland, etc etc.
What im trying to point out is why order from poland rather than wait for its full assembly here in the uk.
Otherwise it would need to go to poland and back taking two days each way.

    • Bobby Fackrell

      December 1st, 2022 - 10:34pm

Rex just tell him he’s right I can’t take anymore

    • Mark

      December 2nd, 2022 - 5:21pm

Bobby, im not trying to be an attention seeker, just trying to point out that some are drawing the wrong conclusions on where the boxsets are from.
I work for royal mail, and one of my tasks is bbc ordering
Pallets, full of dvds or blu rays. The paper work tells me everything , and when im out i visit distribution hubs.
The collection boxsets are already in the uk long before they reach shops, season 2 was sent over two weeks ago. Sometimes is three. But the next set or sets is already building in storage, when that reaches 140.000 at both sites, its announcement for release is isussed.
Is it any wonder that some of you keep saying i want this set or that set, and do remember the bbc always do the oppsite to what you want. But if you think its all nonsense, then i don,t blame you. You have to put up with big mouth pieces at times its a way of life.
But all my eggs are in one basket. Which i can throw at non believers. Truth and honesty gives rewards
      Theive and lies gets nowhere.
Season 2 is a very good boxset, as i said not had a good enough chance to watch yet due to my funny work hours.
My box came from swindon. But i think the glue residue on the back tray is a bit light. And i had my box since last sunday.! Hope you enjoy yours. If theres no word on any other set yet, im sure it will be soon. Id like to see planet of the spiders myself. Its a personal favourite alongside the time warrior.

Much as I love the new, updated Diamond logo (at least in its orange/yellow gradient phase), I am wondering how the urge to slap it on every forthcoming Dr Who item won’t wreck the consistent look of these limited edition boxsets… agreed it’s the ‘product’ inside that really counts, but from a cosmetic point of view alone, they cost a small fortune to buy and I do have a valid point… The DVD’s got around the changing logo issue via the reversible cover option, which has been a wonderful (and extremely considerate!) way of ensuring uniformity across the entire range for the first time: Target novelisations never managed it, nor did the VHS releases or audio CDs. Unless the BBC make an exception for this range and allow the Whittaker logo to continue on them, I can’t see how they could do a similar adaptation – you can’t easily turn a solid box inside out! – unless they wrap the blu-rays in an external plastic shrink-wrap with the Diamond logo on the outside of that alone – is it worth lobbying BBC Worldwide ahead of time?!

well ok, that’s good news – for now – but it does depend still on how long Russell remains, let’s hope it’s a long spell! – because experience shows time and again that all it takes is an ambitious new broom to shake up the applecart without a thought to the overall look! 🙂

    • Rex Farrel

      November 30th, 2022 - 6:58am

They’ll just slap a sticker with the anniversary logo onto the shrinkwrap most likely. I think they did the same for the 40th dvd releases.

He wears that purple scarf, or whatever it is, a bit in Day of the Daleks as well. Plus the purple that several of the royal people wear in Curse of Peladon, and even the DVD cover for Curse was primarily purple. Season 9 is a good guess.

    • Bobby Fackrell

      November 14th, 2022 - 6:36am

I can live with 9, doing the full run for the 60th so three consecutive Pertwee’s on blu ray will be nice

    • D84

      November 14th, 2022 - 8:49am

      Oooooh very good.

Yes S9 seems likely due to the purple cape and general purple theme of Peladon.

Do we think the trailer and pre order will land on Nov 23rd?

    • Prof Horner

      November 14th, 2022 - 9:19am

Yes I certainly want season 9 next. The first three stories are absolute classics . The Mutants is underrated and that just leaves The Time Monster in my opinion the the only bad Pertwee story and probably the worst story of the seventies. Hopefully three weeks to ago for season 2.

    • Prowl 1701

      November 14th, 2022 - 1:15pm

@D84, I do think we will get the trailer on November 23rd. They usually announce something that day and with no animations in the works, a trailer for the next collection set makes sense.

    • Auton

      November 15th, 2022 - 8:56am

Peladon Royal Purple, it’s almost definitely season 9

    • Gordon

      November 15th, 2022 - 8:51pm

Adding more fuel to the season 9 fire Wendy Padbury has said she’s done behind the sofa for s9

    • Basil Funkenstein

      November 15th, 2022 - 11:58pm

I’m still thinking 4 sets for next year.

      Season 9, a 70’s set.
      Season 20, an 80’s set.
      Season 15, a 70’s set.
      Season 5 or 6, a 60’s set.

I’m thinking, if my predictions are correct and we do get 4 sets for the 60th anniversary next year, that after 2023 we may just get 1 or 2 sets a year because of how difficult to remaster most of the seasons that are left will be. We may get 3 sets in 2024 but I think after that we might start seeing large gaps between one set and another.

    • Bobby Fackrell

      November 16th, 2022 - 8:35pm

If 4 are released I don’t think one will be a 60s it’s double the amount of work especially series six. More likely 25 as it is much shorter and an anniversary year

I think the reason there was only two this year was because one of them is a 60s set

      I think 9, 20 and 13, possibly 25

    • Prowl 1701

      November 16th, 2022 - 9:06pm

I like the idea of getting four sets next year, 9, 20, (15 or 16), would be the first three I would figure. The fourth one could be tricky, we need a troughton set, but with space pirates not having telesnaps, not sure what they would do for it. I’d be fine with season 25 thoughj.

    • Pete X

      November 16th, 2022 - 10:09pm

I wouldn’t get my hopes up for a trailer release on the 23rd Nov. The collections usually are announced on a Tuesday (iirc). The 23rd falls on the Wednesday this year.

It is also possible that the current production team/BBC might want to mark the 59th anniversary by releasing some publicity material for either David Tennant’s second time around or for Ncuti Gatwa’s first series – eg his Doctor’s costume. They woudn’t want, at least fan, attention diverted to or split with an earlier iteration of the programme.

I hope it is Season 9 out next. It’s the season in which the 3rd Doctor mellows, developing the “moments of charm” character after the rather acerbic portrayal of seasons 7 and 8.

@Prof Horner, The Time Monster is definitely the worst Pertwee. The short paragraph in the 1981 programme guide is the best version, each subsequent encounter, >DWM archive>novelisation>video, has been one of diminishing returns.

I’m pretty sure I’ve seen announcements on a Wednesday in the past, and certainly a Thursday.

I am hopeful that “Doctor Who Day” will see a merch release of some sort announced

    • Gordon

      November 17th, 2022 - 12:52pm

      @pete x Season 8 was announced on a Wednesday.

I like time monster. It’s doctor who’s answer to junk food. I know it’s not good but I still enjoy devouring it.

@james They aren’t focusing on anniversary’s so I’m not certain we are are getting season 1 next November. It’s too soon after season 2 and Jon Peter Patrick and Tom are all due seasons ahead of another hartnell. Richard Bignell also said on the possibility of getting season 1 next year “don’t bet on it” so I really wouldn’t expect it. People are going to buy it whether it’s out November 2023 or November 2024. people aren’t going to skip it because it’s not out on a specific date so it makes sense not to tie things.

    • Bobby Fackrell

      November 17th, 2022 - 2:20pm

It’s funny The Time Monster isn’t that bad but the worst of the 70s has got me thinking if it isn’t what is?

The chase looks as though it could have been directed by Ed Wood but there are so many comical highlights not least the laugh out loud moment the mire beast pushes its way through the wall and lands on top of a screaming Barbara. Easily in my Top 10 funniest Who moments.

Mine is coming from the storage warehouse near daventry, not poland , like Amazon, its arriving at swindon for national sorting on thursday 17th november.
Then it will be sent via courier to individuals and retailers the following week. As to those ordering from poland,
I think your find they too are coming to swindon for sorting but its up to you, either way, the box manufacturer can only send you a box. While the disc manufacturer can only press discs and send if the factory in manchester have shell cases. I prefur just to have one thats been in storage since july.

War Machines is Season 3, not 4. And the Invasion of Time already got updated effects on it’s DVD release.

I have not seen the Mutants, but have often heard that it is, indeed, the one from season 9 that needs the updated effects.

for season 11 either spiders or dinos would work for me
for season 13 it s a hard call, i don’t think any stores just really need them
for season 15, fang rock or underworld as Invasion of time has them on the dvd release.
for season 16 Pirate planet, or Armageddon factor.
for season 20 the Five Doctors
for season 21 Resurrection of the daleks (should be a peter story for sure)
for season 25 remembrance of the daleks.

They would have their work cut out with all that CSO on underworld. The pirate plamet and Armageddon work fine as they are but those Kroll scenes and some of those dated model shots outside the refinery definitely need an update. id say for the same reason with Zygons, those oil rig model shots and that ridiculous shot in the Thames with the Skarasen but a lot like that as it is and i can live with it. and yes it would be a toss up between Silver or Remembrance. And Remembrance being the more popular of the two but the effects still hold up on that story for me.

    • Prowl 1701

      November 1st, 2022 - 8:16pm

Yeah that would be a lot of CSO work for underworld, but that would really improve the story, as I find the actual plot good. I agree about Armageddon for the most part. Pirate planet could really use some laser blast effects added in. I read the newer version of the novel recently (fanmail from a subscriber) and picturing it in my head made the story even better.

I don’t think they would have the budget it would take to fix power of kroll, lol. You need avengers endgame money for that.

    • Prof Horner

      November 1st, 2022 - 8:38am

Of the three remaining Tom Baker seasons, season 15 undoubtedly the weakest. After three excellent six part serials, Invasion of Time is a big step down . A very ropey production. I also think the end of Invisible Enemy is highly dubious. Why doesn’t the Doctor cure poor Lowe and the others, instead of basically murdering them in the last episode, after to all they have a vaccine. Still any Tom season is welcome and as always the fun is wondering what comes next.

    • Bobby Fackrell

      November 1st, 2022 - 12:25pm

Agreed 15 is very weak, Horror of Fang Rock is pretty decent but the rest of it is pretty bad. Series 16 is much better, easily the best of the Williams’ series

    • Gordon

      November 1st, 2022 - 1:04pm

I’d like season 15 as the next Tom as horror of fang rock doesn’t have a making of and in terms of extras contributions tom’s only done 3 commentaries. I do think it’s probably the next Tom. However I’m not ruling out the possibility that for the 60th aniversary year they put out season 13 as it’s one of the best regarded seasons. Tom didn’t contribute to extras of zygons pyramids and androids. I could wait for season 16. Toms already done commentary’s for every single episode and it’s a very well represented season extras wise. Outside of the behind the sofa’s, Mary tamm tribute and a John leeson interview there really isn’t much that can be added. A kroll making of isn’t likely due to only 3 cast members still being alive and none of them having anything positive to say about it.

    • Prof Horner

      November 1st, 2022 - 1:21pm

Well I agree with you about Season 16 . It was the first season boxset some ten years before the first Blu ray set. I think it will be the last Tom release. Season 15 has its moments, but it is big step down from what went before. But a mark of a great Doctor is even at its very worst it is still watchable and Tom Baker is a truly great Doctor. Just watched the Lee Binding video. Very interesting, great beard and l loved the cat wandering around in background!

    • Prowl 1701

      November 1st, 2022 - 6:01pm

The main reason I want 15 over 16 is because I already have the season 16 DVD set and only have one story from season 15 on DVD (sunmakers) Though I will get both collection sets when released of course.

This is really interesting stuff. All the talk of season 25 has got me quite excited for it whenever it comes out. Seems quite an easy one to put together as a cover as well. The thing the doctor is holding that lee mentioned I I suspect is ace’s bat. That or ace’s slingshot. As for the monsters the special weapons dalek, cyber leader, chief clown and lady P. The tardis doors inside really have to be pink.

Yes it will be inserted in part 4. No word on a release date but it’s looking like December. As for what’s next season 20 is coming mid 2023 according to fans that were at the Amsterdam filming. Michael e Bryant said last week that he recently worked with Katy manning on something. Considering the only Jo season left is 9 and they did colour recovery on time monster last year it’s a safe assumption that season 9 is coming soon. My guess is it will be the next release. After that probably a Troughton, a Tom and then the last remaining mcoy as I feel we are going to be due 1 from each but not necessary in that order.

They will get a Blu-Ray release as it’s another source of income for the BBC after broadcast -Who stuff always sells as we like to build our collections.

Disney still sells certain films/shows even though they are on Disney+ too although their deal might dictate release dates for overseas releases going forward. UK will be business as usual.

I’m looking forward to extra features that have been lacking for a while now in future Series sets as RTD always created more content. Fingers crossed anyway.

I’d imagine they will want to see how the main show does before considering animations. Even then there isn’t a guarantee that Disney will want to even touch animations of 60s niche missing black and white tv. Animations of the current team might be of larger appeal.

I do think we have to take into account that they currently only have the rights to the current show. Without the rights to stream the 60’s they might not have an interest in missing animations. I just cannot see them being interested in animating the likes of space pirates without having season 6 or the whole of the Troughton era to go with it. I can see toymaker, wheel in space and masterplan potentially of being of interest as they have elements that will be shown on tv. We also have to look at what Disney are currently with their own IPs. They are doing a lot of live action remakes. They may not want animation if they are interested in missing who. Finally Disney aren’t normally in the habit of sharing on IPs that they outright own but hay never say never.

I’m also really really hoping we’ll see 4 sets next year; a Pertwee (season 9 or 11, in February,) a Davison (season 20, in May,) a T Baker (season 16, in August,) and a Troughton. (Season 5 or 6, in November again.) That would celebrate the anniversary year and also we’d then have one of each Doctor, except McGann, in the collection.
