I just spoke to someone from Amazon UK and he said that they officially have no stock and they have no idea when or if they will be getting more stock in to fulfil past orders . Mine was a pre-order from February. Hopefully I’ll get the set one day but who can say?

Puzzling why they can’t get any more, yet U.K imported copies were for sale on Amazon’s spanish site and have been delivered within a few days. See Iain’s post below. Cymon posted the details on 6 May. Hope you get a copy mate.

I upgraded my shipping and my order from Amazon Spain was updated to arrive on Tuesday…. When I check now my order has not reached the dispatch stage yet but is still down as due to arrive Tuesday – I suspect they are out of stock. Worth a try anyway! Glad it seems to have worked for some

Ordered mine from Amazon.es and it said it wasn’t released there until 11th and I would get it by 21st? Wonder how you have got yours so soon?

Exactly rich! I wouldn’t worry if I was you as the people (if any) who are getting theirs now are likely the ones getting the ones that Amazon Spain already had and for all those like me who haven’t updated their shipping in any way should still get it when Amazon Spain get further stock. So please bair in mind that Amazon have to get it before we can get it!

Hope this makes sense to all of you who are panicking! I very much doubt anyone here is going to miss out and if they do I will eat my hat (and also get very, very angry as I will have missed out!!!!!!!!!!!)

The prices are starting to fall on eBay, I’ve seen several go for well under £100. The practice of fake bids to mess with the sellers is disgraceful. If a seller puts a copy up for auction and that auction achieves high prices, then that seller is NOT a scalper. A scalper is someone that lists a ridiculous buy it now price, hoping to catch out a buyer that hasn’t been patient enough to look around for a fair price. These inflated prices are buyer driven at the end of the day. It’s about time we got standard packaging releases in the UK, that would end all this. They release standard and special edition steelbook versions of the Troughton animations, why not for the collection series too?

Yes i have been watching them and all the auctions that finish well over 100 are failing due to fake bidders. The buy it now ones are not moving because the buyer has to pay immediately so i believe the high prices are not happening! I am hoping the real prices are more about 70 as i may have to try for one next week.

Liam, you may be as well waiting. There have been problems with this release due to the pandemic, with not enough stock to meet even the pre-orders.

There’s been a lot of talk about more stock being released as time goes on, so it will probably be worth being patient.

Alternatively, check out the amazon.es posts further down. Seems to be a good place to source it according to comments.

      May 9th, 2020 - 2:37pm

Sorry but anyone selling this on eBay or another market place above the RRP is a scalper. Its the same as the B&M sets – peoples greed leads them to think they can buy up the market to create demand to make a quick buck. There is an easy answer – don’t feed the frenzy and buy from them which otherwise drives up the price.

The BBC are laughing anyway with the demand – they have gone from a release on VHS through to DVD and then Blu-ray. Makes you wonder what is next. 4K or 8K release!!!

    • Deuteronomy

      May 9th, 2020 - 2:57pm

I don’t think the fake bidders are always messing with the sellers – sometimes it is messing with legitimate buyers – I think some sellers have multiple EBay accounts (see the bidders with low feedback numbers) and are anonymously bidding on their own sale items to drive up prices – and when this backfires they just list again… unscrupulous

    • Liam

      May 9th, 2020 - 5:58pm

Yes i still hoping that amazon will deliver and while the date now changed back to monday, there no sign of dispatch so i think they sort of waiting to see if there is stock to do it. I understand that it not their fault and i have been polite to the staff but only thing i will ask for, if they should get it to me, is for refund of the 4.99 for the premium service which i not had. If they or i cancel then will see if they can give me a credit on top of a refund which i will use towards trying to get an ebay copy. Hopefully i can keep it below 70. But all these fake bidders and sellers……

      May 10th, 2020 - 10:39am

I agree completely, BBC should really start releasing paired down standard packaging BluRays. There’s obviously a market for them, plus the work is essentially already done. I have NO idea why we aren’t beginning to see the earliest limited releases re-released in down-scaled packaging just about now. It makes no sense to me!

I pre-ordered from Amazon on announcement day and it has been sitting as arriving on the 12th for ages. Got a dispatch notification just there and it’s arriving on Monday so people who are waiting should hopefully still get their sets if they are in a similar position. Fingers crossed.

The demand for the season 14 boxset is much bigger than any other sets. I think the BBC need to either release it again, or increase the amount of sets so that demand is met. A shop near me will be getting some in once they reopen. I apologise for my posts a few days ago.

I agree. Sales of seasons 23 and 26 will be far less than 12 and 14. Not only are the latter two more universally better liked by all age groups, they are far better value for money as you get nearly twice as many episodes.

    • Rob W

      May 9th, 2020 - 10:13am

Increasing the print run also means more profit for the BBC and less to the scalpers on eBay. The demand is there so it’s a win/win for most.

    • daz

      May 9th, 2020 - 11:08am

Sales for Seasons 23 and 26 are currently exactly the same as the rest though. They produce the same amount and have sold out. Fair enough it took longer than some of the sets.

Hysteria for Season 14 has been hightened by uncertainty due to the pandemic with delivery delays and a few reported cancellations. Scalpers were always going to cash in having seen what happened with Season 12 and this has added to it.

Demand for early Tom Baker stuff was always going to be high. Season 13 sell out speed will be interesting to watch. I’m sure Sarah Jane might be a factor in this too.

It has always been stated that the UK packaging is the Limited Edition part which probably includes the booklets.

There is nothing to stop the BBC releasing them again further down the line in Complete Doctor Sets and/or normal plastic cases (USA versions are not limited editions). I can’t see them just relying on BritBox subscribers.

And as said before the standard price for all Seasons means that the cost is spread out accross the range. Otherwise Season 1 for example could end up retailing for a lot more when it eventually arrives.

What I would love if there was option of a subscription style pre-order service. Allowing you to commit to the remaining sets or say at least 5 at a time. I’d happily pay a deposit in advance if it guaranteed you got them without the uncertainty.

Longwinded I know. Thanks for reading.

      May 9th, 2020 - 12:06pm

Nothing wrong with your long post sir

People still don’t seem to be getting it, this went out of stock earlier than expected because of the lock down and the affects on production and distribution

So my Amazon order (Pre-ordered Jan 14th) now says “Your package may be lost”, which means it’s probably not going to show up. Luckily I’ve just managed to snag one from Amazon Spain. Fingers crossed I get one of them at some point! If I end up with both I’ll make sure to sell one on at cost price.

I’m growing extremely tired of the limited edition nature of these sets. I pre-ordered a copy as soon as it was announced but it has been lost in transit. More frustrating is that I can’t obtain a replacement because it was sold out by the day of release.

I’ve ordered all the previous blu-ray collection sets from Amazon and they’ve all arrived perfectly, either a day early on a Sunday or on the day of its release on Monday. However, given some of the comments about other customers copies not arriving, I have my doubts.

    • Judooning

      May 8th, 2020 - 2:19pm

It is nothing to do with Amazon. The current global situation is the reason for the problems.

    • Bobby Fackrell

      May 8th, 2020 - 2:36pm

Also reading through a lot of these comments it looks like Amazon are handling the situation very well. The people who are complaining to them are all getting responses when bearing in mind they have limited staff.

The people who are complaining about the the delivery dates changing this is actually a good thing because they are keeping you informed on the progress.
The people who have had orders cancelled yes I feel sorry for but due to the current situation they clearly have had to because they cannot honour your order at this time due to a situation completely out of their control

Let’s remember too that Amazon did get 100s of these to customers on the release date or before and are still working hard to honour all the other orders.

I am convinced this will get a re-release when things start calming down and as much as we all love Doctor Who there’s 1000s of people out there dying every day at the moment

Don’t keep ignoring the bigger picture

Has anyone looked closely at the copies being sold on ebay. Over the past couple of days i have watched 9 auction copies and interestingly, 6 have ended but then a note says out of stock. Some of such copies are being re listed and always a flurry of bids within 24 hours before quietening down until near the end. While you can not see the bidders, it is noticeably always ones that end and finish with numbers. Sometimes looks like the same people bid on several at a time. Also some of the sellers names look suspiciously similar and locations can be close too. Some are stock pictures. So in conclusion i am very unsure if these high prices are being achieved. What do other people think??? What they are trying to achieve just baffles me.

    • Liam

      May 8th, 2020 - 4:22pm

Yes but it is the sellers who are marking them out of stock as soon as the bidding ends. If the bidders are genuine then they not getting the item they been after…….

    • booboo

      May 8th, 2020 - 5:02pm

they are relisting them because the buyer has probably told them they are not paying and giving probably giving them a load of verbal at the same time, i can only see one where they have ended it early probably for the same reason, if you click on the bids you can see the winners on many of 0 or 1 feedback

    • Liam

      May 8th, 2020 - 7:10pm

Still seems a bit stupid that it will prevent genuine buyers getting something they are, and this their decision, willing to pay an over inflated price for. Also if these listings are fake then what do the sellers get out of it apart from large selling fees from ebay which can still be charged if done repeatedly. I am not condoning the actions of sellers who have bought multi copies but just seems a bit rash by these fake buyers. I have had my own failed order from amazon and unless it comes through i will have to try bid for one with a budget up to about 75. Maybe this lower figure is a true reflection of what they will achieve.

    • booboo

      May 8th, 2020 - 7:34pm

the listings are not fake its the bidders, deliberately sabotaging an auction because of people selling an at a massive profit, I’m seeing plenty of genuine bidders getting what they bid even if over priced

    • booboo

      May 8th, 2020 - 8:27pm

      May 9th, 2020 - 12:09am

Wow it’s crazy the lengths some will go to! While I strongly disagree with scalpers buying multiple copies to sell off so there’s not enough to go round and making this frustrating situation worse. Surely this behaviour by the buyers trying to stop the scalpers stirs everything up further, and misleadingly inflates the prices further?

Will be interesting to see whether these prices stay at the level they are, or eventually come down when things quieten down!

    • Liam

      May 9th, 2020 - 12:25pm

Still makes me wonder what price do they actually sell at. If on monday , i know for certain amazon will not be honouring my order then i might approach some sellers and try get them to agree a buy it now price of about 60 to 70. I am hoping they may agree if the auctions are being screwed by these fake buyers and they had enough! With buy it now you have to pay immediately so that explains why so many of them are failing to shift!

Little bit frustrated. First, money couldnt be taken from my account for some reason (I had sufficient funds in place) and now after it was sorted (they’ve taken the money) it has been sat on “Sent To Warehouse” for ages! Zoom arent responding to any of my emails or Twitter DMs and it’s very frustrating not knowing what’s going on! Might just be an opening bid price?

Or maybe someone has a geniue reason to sell, ordered by mistake, unwanted gift etc?

There’s selfless people on ebay as well

I just watched the Elisabeth Sladen tribute and I have to say it is one of the best things they box sets have produced. I really hope they put it on TV or somewhere else as it is a big shame the only way you can watch it is through this box set and unfortunately very few people will be able to see it.

Have watched ‘Robots of Death’ numerous times but have just noticed a continuety error in part one. When the Doctor and Leela are found by the 2 Voc robots they are held in a room. Tom comes in without his scarf on. When they escape soon after he is wearing it.

    Just ordered from Amazon.es
Two week wait but worth getting at a decent price (£48). Hopefully it’ll arrive faster since people who have ordered from them yesterday had it arrived today.

It’s an import so would be sent from U.K to Spain so you’ll no doubt get it well before Amazon.se say.

      re : the 14th doctor
yes i ordered mine yesterday evening at practically the same time as you after seeing the amazon spain listing , at the minute mine says arriving on the 19th too , we’ll need to keep each other and the other guys here too informed about how this spain item is progressing, i had ordered from Zoom originally and it was despatched on the 29th but it still hasn’t arrived , i didn’t want to miss out completely on the set so went for the amazon spain one as a last chance backup
