Sarah Jane Smith, Louise Jameson as the Doctor’s captivating new companion Leela and guests
stars Tim Pigott-Smith, Stephen Thorne, Peter Pratt, Pamela Salem, David Collings, Christopher
Benjamin and Trevor Baxter.

I wish they would re%release all of these in standard slimline Blu ray cases like the American editions, I have not interest in the big clunky boxes these come in.

I too dislike the clunky boxes. The design isn’t great. Mine are all AOK so far, but I wonder how robust they will be in years to come.

      June 11th, 2020 - 1:08pm

they probably had a lot of complainants about cancelled orders and as it had sold out everywhere by the time it arrived there was no where else to get it from

many would have gone on to pay ebay prices sadly thinking it was the only option

      June 11th, 2020 - 6:01pm

These days most of us don’t have the space for a lovely tissue box like this. But too late to change. 26 tissue boxes it will be or 37…

Most manufacturers get this wrong. It’s the only thing I dislike about the otherwise marvellous B&M figure releases. Those three figures could take up a quarter of the space. The Eaglemoss box sets are terrible space-wasters for this too. I have rooms, floor to ceiling for Dr Who stuff where most of it is “air”. Even Big Finish stuff needn’t take up the space it does. Cardboard wallets would be much better, taking up 25-30% of space.

    • daz

      June 12th, 2020 - 9:44pm

      Personally I love the design.

Only thing I would change is to have a transparent plastic sleeve to cover whole box and J-card making it more secure.

That and so I could remove J-card and display full image without text or the door opening.

As for those wanting a slimline version you could always get the USA versions as they are region free. But they have same artwork on each disc, no collectors booklet and less artwork overall so just don’t feel special.

I can still see slimline versions coming to UK once a Doctor’s Seasons are complete. Or at end of run.

If there is anybody else in Australia waiting for their Zavvi order, I can report that I finally received mine today so hopefully everybody else will get their copy this week. The box is bent out of shape, but it’s not as badly damaged as previously editions when ordered through Zavvi. Still not great though as it was sent loose in a jiffy bag. Oh well.

Mine arrived today, mine is also a little bent on the corners which is usually the case because of the case design (and lack of protection), but this time it was also torn one of the joins, I want to get a refund/replacement but I figure it would be difficult due to stock or expensive from an alternative supplier. Kinda defeats the purpose of buying a limited edition version of the boxset where the main difference is the case and that gets damaged.

I’ve started ordering from Hive. They ship to Australia. Just received Season 14 today from them and they shipped it in a cardboard package rather than a flimsy, loose white package like Zavvi. The other seasons I’d orders from Zavvi were all bent and damaged. Hive seem to be one of the better options for Aus shipping. Zavvi’s customer service is also truly terrible.

What’s the likelihood of s11 having “The ghosts of N-space” & “Paradise of death” radio audios on them?
I was so gald they put The pescations on s14 saved me money, the 3rd dr audios can go for high money sometimes so I’d really love it if they included them, be a good way to compete set and fill up disc spaces.

In all honesty, who thinks we will see the next set announced in June around the same time it should have been in April. The production of the sets should have only been offset by a month or month and a half at most. Would love to hear all your thoughts!

Gave this in a couple of other comments below I think the announcement will be September or October with a release in December or January. The production has been delayed considerably more than a month and is still delayed with no clear signs of an end.
Given the amount of problems caused by trying to get 14 out do you really want them to commit to a release date of the next unit? Exactly the same thing may happen if they make an announcement in June for an August or September release.
Do you really want 100 more comments slagging of Amazon and Zoom?

    • daz

      May 24th, 2020 - 5:37pm

There’s more chance of the Steelbook of Series 6 being announced than another collection set for a while.

    • Gordon

      May 24th, 2020 - 9:21pm

I don’t think it’s set in stone that we were going to get an announcement in April. Season 10 was announced nearly a month after season 18 was released and season 19 and 26 would have been already out before the next release announcement if it had kept their original dates so I don’t think it’s fixed that we get an announcement just before the release of the current 1. It could just be a case that the next set needs a bit longer to be ready as it’s a Pertwee or a black and white season which would need more work than anything post Season 12. Sure the coronavirus could have had an issue with the announcement for the next release but it might not be the only reason. Postal services should have some sort of normality by august/September so I’m not ruling out a release then but it all depends on what they got in the can. Going by the likes of Emmerdale who have started filming and the likes of Corrie and ee that are supposed to start filming next month I can see some selected filming for the collection going ahead sooner rather than later with an extremely small crew. I guess that the manufacturing plant will Also have a bit of a backlog as well so that could effect the release schedule too. We probably will hear more about animated releases and steel books as they can be done remotely from home unlike the collection sets

During the end credits of part 1 of Talons (Disc 6) when the commentary 1 option is switched on you can hear the continuity announcement for Episode 2 in between them talking. Was that an error on the original DVD that I missed before? Can’t hear it when the standard Mono audio is selected.

Can anyone else confirm if this happened on the original DVD? It’s no big issue as it happens in between them talking in the commentary, so doesn’t affect the commentary in any way. It’s just for my own curiosity to find out if that happened on the original DVD??

Same here! based on the rumours I’ve heard from pillar to post, either Season 11 or 20 may be next. We haven’t had a 5th doctor release in just under 2 years, there’s a few sources suggesting that the filming of extras for that set have taken place (prior to the current climate). 11 is just one I’ve seen discussed from place to place and its the best candidate for the next 3rd doctor set as the footage is in better condition than the footage of seasons 7-9. Personally I would like Season 20 to be next but I’m happy with anything.

    • Bobby Fackrell

      May 22nd, 2020 - 4:11pm

There’s no way the one is getting announced anytime soon look at all the production issues caused during the series 14 release.
I do not believe they commit to a release date until the global situation settles down.
I think it will be a couple of months before the next announcement and if we are lucky we may get one more release this year in the winter

    • Rory

      May 22nd, 2020 - 4:32pm

Agreed. I would be happy with anything. Let’s face it, we’re going to buy whatever season they release.

However, I think I’d prefer 11 over 20, simply because there are more Pertwee seasons than Davison ones, so it spaces the different Doctor releases out a bit more.

Mind you, I’m also of the opinion that I’d rather wait for completed seasons of Hartnell and Troughton before they release the box sets. That doesn’t mean I won’t be getting the steelbooks of new animations as soon as they’re released. Faceless Ones steelbook is a thing of beauty.

Also a few years ago we were told Spearhead would be the only classic blu ray now we have series 10, 12, 14, 18, 19, 23 and 26 pop one on and enjoy what we have already

    • Stuart

      May 25th, 2020 - 2:33pm

I think S20 is more likely than 11 simply because its unlikely two Sarah Jane series will come out back to back. Doubt there’ll be any announcement until Aug/Sept though.

      May 25th, 2020 - 5:40pm

Stuart. But she’s in Season 20 too.

I don’t mind either way. But if it is a Pertwee Season. Season 11 is most likely to come out before the others.

    • Rory

      May 28th, 2020 - 5:16pm

Daz, technically she’s not in season 20, because Five Doctors was a special, outside of the regular series run.

That said, I still prefer another Pertwee release. 2/5 over 2/3.

I’m yet to receive my copy from Zavvi yet (I’m in Australia) but in the past they have arrived badly packaged, so therefore the sets were crushed and beaten-up. I had hoped that maybe Zavvi might start packaging them properly with this set, but it sounds like they aren’t. If anybody does get a damaged copy, please hold Zavvi accountable and insist on a full refund. They will try to offer you a part refund to make you go away, insist on photographic proof and drag the process out to make you give up, but please keep persisting as they must not be allowed to continuously get away with this. The more of us who complain and demand refunds, the better chance that they may actually improve their service in the future.

Hi I don’t know if anyone is interested but the AU Amazon link below has dropped price by $14 as it used to be $81+

I know its still on pre order and not due out until July some time 🙂 of course the only down side is you can not get it shipped direct to you as one would have to know some one in Au and get it sent there and then reshipped out to you.

$68 Au is pretty good deal that’s around £38 or so + shipping so still possible for those who want to wait and chance that Amazon.Au doesn’t go the way of Amazon.uk and not get the shipment in and then cancels peoples orders 🙁

    https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/offer-listing/B084DG7GMC/ref=dp_olp_new_mbc?ie=UTF8&condition=new

Im personally not taking the chance Ive already had to face reality and bought an boxset of Ebay for £80 given im getting my £50 back from paypal ASAP from my orginal supplier and I can sell off £30 of dvds to make up the difference I can break even on this boxset somewhat!

Just be aware that the Australian packaging will be different (and in my opinion inferior) to the UK packaging, as they have been since season 18. One of the local retailers has confirmed that this is the case. However, if the packaging doesn’t worry you then the disc content will be the same.

I’ve got it but does that mean there are less than 10,000 copies of Season 14 Blu-ray out there? And will BBC ever make more?

No one can say, we can only assume that they either sold out or that stock is yet to go on sale from HMV/Argos stores for example. Perhaps if enough people contact the BBC or start some kind of online petition there might be a repress.

Lee Binding spoke on twitter about season 4 and 21 and how they would handle the multiple doctors thing. There will only be one doctor per cover with him pretty much confirming it will be Troughton and Davison. With hartnell and Colin Baker on the tardis scene inside.

Be great if when you opened the Tardis doors to see the console room a freshly born Colin was sitting up in Peter’s costume with Peri all perky looking on…

Hartnell could be on Tardis floor just before regenerating or standing by the console.

I still think that Season 4 should have both Doctors on the front cover however what I would like to see is Peter Davison on the front cover of Season 21 but with Colin’s shadow behind him.

The simple way around it as far I can see would be to include William Hartnell and Colin Baker on the front cover as a smaller image with the monsters of the season.

The other possibility although there will be a crease down the image due to how they are manufactured would be to put 1st and 6th Doctor on the back cover.

That way if you want to display a different Doctor you would have a choice.

They would have to do something allowing the J-card to blend into the other image though.

If anyone gets the chance, DO NOT ORDER this box-set from ZAVVI- mine came in an envelope..yes, an envelope! and guess what? IT WAS BASHED TO PIECES. Have Zavvi got no sense. I thought it was just steelbooks that arrived damaged with them. I’m FURIOUS.

They did the same with my Star Wars figures that had a card backing and they were crushed/bent… did they use the Jiffy bag with the bubble wrap inside… Zavvi’s packaging does seem to vary from order to order… hope you manage to get it replaced though

Yes, they used a jiffy bag with flat bubble wrap inside like it had been crushed. Zavvi are notoriously bad at packing and even harder to get replacements/refunds. I haven’t contacted them yet but i won’t get a replacement as they have sold out.

Maybe if you message them through your account they can put some kind of alert on your account if they end up being a 2nd run of stock of these sets (which seems likely for those who missed out) they might then send you another one to replace it. The worst thing about these sets is how fragile the packaging is and its like a lottery with whether you get a damaged one or not. Even a small knock is enough to bruise the outer packaging.

I remember buying Season 18 from in-store HMV and didn’t realize till after I’d opened it that all of the outer card was crushed on one side. Fortunately this was back in days where these sets could be bought online AFTER they were released and managed to get a pristine copy from Amazon.

Such a shame though. I would still open and watch it though as Zavvi are usually good at letting you keep things that are damaged and replace/refund if they can. As you say though why they don’t use proper sturdy packaging to send them is beyond me.

I can confirm from previous experience that Zavvi package these sets really carelessly and then can’t replace them. However, it is worth persisting with them to get a full refund as they do come through eventually and the more people who do it, the more chance that one day Zavvi might take more care with how they send stuff like this. They are difficult to deal with and try to only partially refund at first, but it is worth persisting. I’ve had no choice but to order this set from them and I am dreading seeing what condition it arrives in.

Zoom have just this morning told me they have cancelled my order after 14 days of no communication and they have offered me no compensation. I preordered on day. I will not be shopping zoom ever again

Shame as I’ve never had a problem with Zoom. Always get it cheaper with them. Asked them if there getting anymore stock? Hold you order on file?

20 is most likely. There is plenty of material for that season was recorded last year. 2 6 and 11 also rumoured. Lalla recorded some Material for s17 due to her leaving the country however that could be a while before it actually gets released and we just had a Tom release.

Can i just ask gordon, when they do get around to Season 13, Do you reckon it will be Zygons for the CGI treatment and are you quite happy with The skarasen as it is? It doesn,t bother me that much except for the lack of Fleeing onlookers and the silliness of those sirens that makes me laugh.

It’s something I’d like them to do but I think it will all come down to budget and if it’s feasible

Lee Binding on one of his Insta Stories shared some small tidbits and it looked like (for me) the Time Lords sigils, so for me it sounded like Five Doctors. And he said thats it will soon be revealed. But it’s been some time ago, so I just assume they are slowing down during the pandemic, cause I assumed it would be out by now, now that season 14 is already here.

I think that was actually one of the seals on Tennant for the time lord victorious thing – I saw it and know what you meant Robert, really just wanted it to be an announcement of the collection season 20

Of the 1st and 2nd Doctors there are 2 almost complete seasons we could get earlier than others. Season 2 (9 stories) has only 2 episodes of The Crusade missing.
Season 6 (7 stories) has 5/6 episodes missing from Space Pirates. Season 1 has Marco Polo all 7 episodes missing and 2 from The Reign of Terror. But guessing this season will be left until 2023 to coincide with the 60th Anniversary.

    Hello

This is related to the Season 10 collection Blu-ray, is on e.g. The Three Doctors the image frequently juddery for everyone or do I have a problem with my discs?

I think it is on more episodes/stories than that too. I assume there was no way for them to get rid of the judder hence why it is present?

    Thanks

Are you referring to the film segments on the three doctors? I noticed this, but I think it’s just because they don’t have the original film elements for that so it’s merely an upscale job. Carnival of monsters is really good both film and even the SD videotape.
It varies from the source material as to what they can do with it, but I’m no expert hope this helps a bit.

      Hi David

No, I’m referring to the studio scenes every now again you see a sort of judder in the image. Not entirely sure how to explain it.

Hi Jake, sorry for the delayed reply, I personally didn’t notice anything on my copy, obviously make sure your disc hasn’t got any finger prints or dust on the disc itself, thats the best way i can suggest to see if its only the disc at fault. If you get it with your discs in general just check yout HDMI connection. Sorry if this doesn’t help a great deal.
