Season 14 perhaps but yeah this is my favourite with the incredible 4th Doctor and Sarah Jane Smith although they both appeared together in the first two Season 14 stories as well her leaving scene in The Hand Of Fear was and still is so emotional to watch

Mark strickson did an interview for culturescape on YouTube. I recommend it as it actually goes into a lot of his non who work with national geographic, steve Irwin and as a producer on rich house poor house etc. He didnt mention any collection filming but he did say he was coming over recording 4 big finish stories in September/October time which means he is a) over and b) working. It also does line up with what I heard about him filming for the collection sets in September though this does not confirm it

He said a lot of the same things in his Q and A when he was over briefly for valiant 23 and on the bluray. He did say he would love to return as Turlough so hopefully they get him involved in the season 21 trailer.

So in what order would you put the stories of season 13 .
    The Seeds of Doom
    Pyramids of Mars
    Terror of the Zygons
    Planet of Evil
    Invasion of the Andriods
    Brain of Morbius.
The top three are interchangeable for me depending on my mood and Planet of Evil is only so low because the top three are so good.
I have never cared for Brain of Morbius, even on it’s first transmission .

Wow Prof Horner, I literally thought it was only me that Wasnt a Fan of the Brain of Morbius. I don’t Mind the Story as Such it’s just the Design of the Morbius Monster I think is Bad.
I clearly remember as a Young Lad Watching this Episode First Airing. I Literally had Tears Rolling Down my Cheeks from Laughing that much.
To Say With most Dr Who Villains back then the Children should be Hiding behind the Sofa in Terror!
I don’t think this Monster hit the Mark with me. LOL.

I do like Brain of Morbius, but find it a little overrated. My order is

      Pyramids if Mars
      Seeds of Doom
      Planet of Evil (it’s underrated)
      Terror of the zygons
      The Brain of Morbius
      The Android invasion

    • Snowman

      July 9th, 2025 - 5:00pm

I love the Android Invasion Prowl1701.
I remember Watching it again about a Year ago on my DVD and still Thoroughly enjoyed it. I was Re-Watching all the Black and white Episodes from the 1st Two Doctors. I Watched them in Order over a few Months and When I had Watched all those I remember Re-Watching a Few of Toms Stories and most Of Sylvesters. The Android Invasion might be the Top of my List from this Season.

      It’s a tough one Prof
I can only say that the android invasion & planet of evil are my least favourites of the season.

    • Amypondfan

      July 9th, 2025 - 6:15pm

Seeds is great but all the amelia ducart sequences are redundant. Hinchcliffe removed them from his novelisation and it helped tighten the story up.

      Zygons
      Pyramids
      Evil
      Brain
      Seeds
      Android

    • Gordon

      July 9th, 2025 - 6:38pm

      Seeds of doom
      Pyramid of mars
      Terror of the zygons
      Planet of evil
      Brain of morbius
      The android invasion

And I don’t even dislike android invasion

    • Matt Y

      July 9th, 2025 - 7:24pm

      All the stories are great.
      Zygons
      Brain
      Pyramids
      Android
      Seeds
      Planet

    • Amypondfan

      July 9th, 2025 - 9:07pm

Same here Gordon, I like them all.

    • Gareth

      July 9th, 2025 - 9:48pm

In contrast, Brain of Morbius is my favourite S13 story in a very, very strong season of the show. Actually feel the design and aesthetic of the episodes is very strong. Barry Newbury’s design of Solon’s castle is inspired and love the look of the Morbius Monster. The script deftly balances the grotesque with some deliciously mordant humour. It’s probably my most watched episode of the classic series.

I would say Android comes in last ( but by no means least) for me.

      Then it might be:

      Zygons
      Planet
      Pyramids
      Seeds

I say “might ” as the above are interchangeable in my affections. But I would agree that Planet of Evil is somewhat underrated. That one’s a 9 out of 10 for me.

Out of the only two i watched so far as sadly new with season 13 oppps my top is defo the pyramids and the second so far which i watched Monday was planet especially but hope too give my opinion on the rest after i watched the full season my only top out off the ones i watched from every season was off course remembrance off the daleks

@snowman, android invasion might be at the bottom of my list, but it is still great, such a strong season. I have two or three nitpicks, but still really like it.

    • Auton

      July 10th, 2025 - 7:39am

This order will probably change when I rewatch this season:

      The Seeds of Doom
      Pyramids of Mars
      Terror of the Zygons
      The Brain of Morbius
      The Android Invasion
      Planet of Evil

    • Duncan

      July 10th, 2025 - 8:12am

That’s difficult! Morbius would be last. Not too keen on that one. The other five ….. I’d probably rate them all as best with Brain bringing up the rear. Planet and Android are two of my all time favourites

    • Erato

      July 10th, 2025 - 8:56am

The Brain of Morbius is hilarious. Stuart Fell doesn’t get nearly enough credit for his body language and mannerisms as the Morbius monster.

      July 10th, 2025 - 9:36am

Ah, Prowl 1701, I’m Glad to know you really like the Android Invasion, with it being at the Bottom of your list I got the impression you didn’t like it much.
      it is a Great Story.

    • Lee

      July 11th, 2025 - 4:16am

      My Order would be:

      The Mummy
      Frankenstein
      The Lost World
      Invasion Of The Body Snatchers
      The Thing From Another World
      Jekyll and Hyde
      😉

I just love the way the season 13 stories have their roots in classic horror, best season of Who ever!

    • Doc3Pertwee

      July 11th, 2025 - 2:10pm

My personal order of preference is:

      Pyramids of Mars
      The Seeds of Doom
      Terror of the Zygons
      The Brain of Morbius
      The Android Invasion
      Planet of Evil

    • Dalek Eye Stalk

      July 12th, 2025 - 5:39am

      1) Pyramids of Mars
      2) Terror of the Zygons
      3) The Brain of Morbius
      4) The Seeds of Doom
      5) The Android Invasion
      6) Planet of Evil

    • Duncan

      July 12th, 2025 - 9:21am

Re Crayford’s missing eye, I took it to mean that if the Kraals science and technology was so powerful and advanced they can recreate an entire English village and surrounding countryside, then brainwashing a desperate man to not notice he only has one eye would be a walk in the park. They clearly had been experimenting on Crayford.

Just wandering what everyone’s thoughts are on the remastering/ai wax look?
Ive always been ok with it but I’m thinking I’m not sure how I feel now. It seems more noticeable in shots that are close ups. If it’s a long wide shot it looks really nice.
This all started with The Beatles Get Back and again the same scenario, looks waxy on close ups.
Along the passage of time it may be fine just as the vid fired made everything look nicer and the greens greener.
It’s also worth noting that the waxy look is starting to look like the artwork which has a waxy look to it.

Seeing people’s freeze framing this recent trailer and it’s very noticeable but in all honesty when the trailer plays it doesn’t look that bad. I don’t think so anyway. I can live with it I think. It’s very very unlikely these stories will be released again and certainly won’t be reissued again de-mastered.

It sounds like it’s only the YouTube trailer looks like that and actual blu ray doesn’t have wax look.

    • Elliot

      July 9th, 2025 - 11:01am

Peter Crocker, who worked on the remaster

“That’s not representative of the master. There’s a total absence of grain which is present on what I delivered, while the DVD shows mpeg-2 compression of analogue noise. I believe the trailer went through at least 2 consecutive mp4 compressions and YouTube compresses further.”

    • Rory

      July 9th, 2025 - 11:15am

The YouTube trailers are always heavily compressed, so I don’t see them as in any way representative of the actual Blu-Ray quality.

    • Gordon

      July 9th, 2025 - 1:27pm

It’s the Same discourse as the last couple of releases.

Trailer hits: its been over dnr’d and waxy
Disc release: bar a couple of people there is very little said about it

      Rinse repeat the next release

    • Walter Hardback

      July 9th, 2025 - 4:54pm

Mr Crocker’s always turned up the noise reduction way too high for my liking, going back to work he did for Simply HE, but it’s good to know that even he thinks the trailer is too much. Shame he didn’t feel like that when he did the Hartnell set. (At least its selling out meant I got my money back when I sold it, so no burnt fingers for pre-ordering that time.)

      9. Bill Potts and Nardole.
      8. Ian and Barbara.

      Sarah Jane
      Nyssa
      Peri

      Rose

In the top 5 would be Jamie, Sarah Jane, ace, Amy and Clara

Best companion is such a personal choice, there is no definitive answer as everyone’s opinion is right for them. Sarah Jane was my first companion alongside harry so they are a pairing I’ve always loved but Barbara and Ian, any of the second doctor teams, the unit team, nyssa, peri, ace is another favourite. Then into new who where Amy and rory, Clara, river, yaz and ruby are characters I love. Amy and Clara are still my favourites of new who though.

      July 8th, 2025 - 11:19am

I expect you’ll get very different views on that, its a very personal thing to decide “who is best”

For me, I loved Sarah Jane, Jo Grant too

I like Zoe a lot, Ace too

For the modern era, many people usually vote for Rose and I don’t disagree there, but for me its Donna

Absolutely incredible character, no love story or interest – just mates travelling and having fun

You just want – too .. mate

      Not with me sunshine

      Amazing

      July 8th, 2025 - 11:38am

She’s definitely one of my favourites but I’m also very fond of Tegan and Nyssa. I wish the latter had stayed a little longer.
Love Graham too. I’d rather have had Graham and Grace with 13 than the two kids. Having a middle-aged couple travelling around with the Doctor would have been an interesting dynamic imho.

    • Neill Stringer

      July 8th, 2025 - 8:28pm

I sometimes think Rose has become over rated, don’t get me wrong I like the character but I felt she was better with the Ninth Doctor than the Tenth. She got too selfish and a bit whiney when she became more ‘in love’ with the Doctor.

I do prefer the more paternal relationship the Doctor had with companions. Ace and Romana were two companions I loved, Jamie was great fun with the Second Doctor.

    • Auton

      July 8th, 2025 - 10:48pm

Best Tardis teams from each Doctor:
      Steven and Vicki
      Jamie and Zoe
Jo (Jo works well with 3 but Liz is probably the better companion)
      Romana 2 and K9
      Nyssa and Tegan
      Peri
      Ace
      Rose and Jack
Donna (Martha is very underrated IMO)
      Amy and Rory
      Bill and Nardole
No favourite Tardis team for 13 but Graham is the best of the companions
      Belinda

I think the doctor and companion dynamic can really hamper people’s people’s opinion. Rose season 2 did certainly have an effect on people’s opinion. Martha was a companion that would have been better companion if 10 hadn’t treated her poorly in my opinion.

      9. Susan.
      8. Liz Shaw.
      7. Jo and UNIT.
      6. Jamie and Zoe.

3 episodes of terror of the zygons
2 episodes of pyramid of mars
      2 episodes of android invasion

Amazing to think these are probably going to be the last new Commentaries featuring Tom. He’s already done commentaries for season 16 already back in the dvd era with Mary Tamm so I don’t think he’d do new ones.

Speaking of season 16 Mike tucker was asking on faceboook if anybody knows the whereabouts of the kroll monster since it was auctioned off. It’s probably for the making of. We know 16 is coming in the next 18 months so not a surprise.

So will it be s21 to finish the 80s and then a Troughton s5 or s6 in 2026 then s16 final Tom set Key to Time early 2027?

    • Gordon

Think it’s going to be 21 and either 16 or 11

    • Basil Funkenstein

      July 7th, 2025 - 4:09am

I am hoping BEYOND hope that the release order after Season 13 is 21, 16, and 11 and then I am happy with whatever sets we get in whatever order after those.

It’d be fantastic to have all of Classic Who in colour complete. I hope with 21 being Peter’s last season, 16 being Tom’s last season, and 11 being Jon’s last season respectively that they pack ALL of these boxsets with as much material as possible.

I’m reallyyyyyyy looking forward to seeing the covers Lee has in mind for the remaining boxsets, even the B&W seasons.

All in all I’m still beyond excited for the… 8, possibly 9 if they hopefully do a Wilderness Years, sets left to go to complete Classic Who on blu-ray.

    • Basil Funkenstein

      July 7th, 2025 - 4:14am

It’s incredible to think and really understand and realise that we are only 8 or 9 sets away from finishing this collection. To me it feels like only yesterday that I got my first boxset. It was season 18 and I got 19 as a Christmas present. I missed out on the first run of Season 12 so had to wait for the 2nd edition re-release.

Still feels like the collection is just hitting its’ stride tbh. Is incredible to think that we got seasons 7 and 13 of Classic Who on blu-ray in the same year! Two of the most widely regarded seasons in Who history. What an incredibly lucky bunch Classic Doctor Who fans are.

    • Barney

      July 7th, 2025 - 7:16am

I reckon they’ll do 21 next then 11 then 16, just rhink they’ll mix the doctors up as much as they can with whats left in colour. Then that gives the animation team a good head start to finish any one of the bw seasons. Crossing my fingers.

    • Prof Horner

      July 7th, 2025 - 9:39am

I was underwhelmed by last year’s releases . Well put together, great artwork and some great extras, particularly the Graeme Williams doc . But not the best seasons (yes I know a lot on this site love season 25 but not for me , each to their own) but this year it’s A grade Who and quite possibly the two greatest seasons of in the series history.
Hopefully we won’t have wait too long for season 13. Maybe September 1, two days after the 50 years since the first episode was transmitted.

    • Lewis James

      July 8th, 2025 - 4:37pm

Just realised we have 2 regenerations to come, Jon & Peter. It’s a shame Colin’s last appearance on blu ray is going to be one of his least popular stories, twin dilemma. I’m hoping it will be both Peter & Colin on behind the sofa for 21 as they both appear in the season.

    • master

      July 8th, 2025 - 5:07pm

One things for certain with Season 21, theres no way they can get around updating that Myrrka with regards to updated effects as most of those pivotal scenes contain regular or guest cast members. So we are stuck with the pantomine horse and sea devils with a lopsided congenital weakness.
Resurrection of the daleks or Frontios seem the obvious candidates to get the CG treatment. I hope they update The Twin dilemma and also transfer the special edition effects of Planet of Fire over to the four parter, or redux as they did with enlightenment.

    • Gordon

      July 9th, 2025 - 12:06am

I don’t think new effects for warriors are impossible but it would be expensive and time consuming.

I think resurrection would be the most likely one.

Frontios is a possibility but I’m not sure new effects are really going to improve things. The current effects are ok but not special

The only thing could be done for caves is the magma beast.

I find twin dilemma entertaining. Yes I know it’s bad but it’s still entertaining. Not sure if adding new effects save this story

I doubt the planet of fire omnibus effects will get transferred to the transmitted version. The enlightenment effects weren’t. The optional effects on the blu ray were newly produced for that set. Plus there is about 30 minutes of footage that would need new effects. Let’s not forget that new effects are in widescreen and filmised. To top it off the omnibus effects were extremely poorly received. For me it’s by far the worst of the new effects. If the episodic version is getting optional effects I suspect it will be new ones

    • Prowl 1701

      July 9th, 2025 - 3:51am

I definitely want Resurrection to be the season 21 story that gets updated effects, it really needs them, even more than Invasion of the Dinosaurs for me personally.

    • daz

      July 9th, 2025 - 10:11am

For Warriors it would benefit from simply regrading the lighter scenes making them darker maybe?

The prop is really beautiful I would love to buy it if that was possible

    • Gordon

      July 5th, 2025 - 9:42pm

Richard bignell said It was just the hand puppet prop that was restored and that was just used for closeup ups.

Plus he also said the actual prop used for the stop motion is 50 years old. “After 50 years, the thing is very fragile and composed of crumbling foam rubber and latex. There’s no way that it would ever be used for such a shoot.”

Also it wasn’t restored for this set. It was just a happy accident that Neil Cole was restoring it for his museum at the same time as season 13 extras were being prepared.

  • Gordon

    July 4th, 2025 - 11:43pm

just to reassure most places will probably get more stock in. If your favourite retailer sold their original allocation 24 hours after preorder it does not mean that’s it. The retailers need to ask for more stock first before putting the preorders back on sale. It only went on sale yesterday. Plenty of time for bbc studios to increase the number of copies needed before release to fulfil demand. I don’t think the final discs have been produced or the packaging either. There is definitely time to increase the number made

It might just be that Amazon and Zavvi didn’t anticipate the number of orders they’d get and based their ordering off the last few Collection sets. Having sold out of their allocation, they’ll be able to reorder if BBC have not allocated everything already.

I’m in Australia and I can recommend ordering through Rarewaves. I’ve bought a range of things through them in the past – including previous Collection sets – and it’s always been a good experience. Nothing has arrived damaged and one item recently was later than usual, but that’s it.

They also listed this new set and had it on sale before any announcements so it was fun ordering it yesterday about 15 minutes before it had been officially listed as such!
