could you imagine if they did buy tardis time version of wheel. Did some upscaling etc and did a release of it. Ian would be lived and absolutely wouldn’t hear the end of it. I have tried to watch some of his aí eps but too much not insync and footage rewinded.
Maybe this way of doing recreations using motion capture/animation. Be more lifelike movements. Even if just do one to see how it works out. Maybe a short ep like Mission
Have seen ep1 of wheel and think it’s quite good for a fan attempt. With bbc backing could be brought up to release standard.

July 12th, 2025 - 2:41pmEven if the bbc did a u turn on it there is a bunch of legal and estate clearances and loyalty payments that would need to be crossed before it goes ahead Plus the added issue of it now being available for free on YouTube. Plus how much do they pay for it to use it on a release? It’s nowhere near as easy as the bbc buys it
Gordon
July 12th, 2025 - 2:45pmI think what is most l likely to happen is they get brought on to the official wheel animation when the time comes in the same way Rob Ritchie did on power or David Busch on shada. Maybe if there is money left over they may include it there
James
July 12th, 2025 - 3:36pmCould they not work with her?
They did with the lad who did the regeneration of 2 to 3 for war games.
YouTube would be the before version before ipscaling etc etc for the official release.
Not update with all background info. Could you please in brief explain power and shada
Bob
July 12th, 2025 - 4:05pmAs much as it’s impressive for an independant production, I’d personally rather the actual animation resemble the short included with The Macra Terror.
I do wonder why they’ve seemingly been holding this one off. It’s the last missing Cyberman story, it introduces a companion, it completes a season. It’s not a particularly beloved story by any means but its animation would mean a lot. Perhaps we’ll get it next year alongside The Myth Makers.
Gordon
July 12th, 2025 - 4:37pmThat was for 1 2 min scene. This is for 2/3rds of a story. The costs and situation are very different. Plus war games on colour was on bbc 4 so had many times the budget of a direct to dvd/blu ray release to work out any potential legal/estate issues and cost for a release
She already does work for them. She does little bits and pieces of cgi work for the bonus photo recons
Rob Ritchie worked on his own fan animations on his YouTube channel. They didn’t use any of his work but they did employ him to work on the official animations. David Busch worked on Ian Levine’s mission to the unknown and shada. It was his work on shada that got him employed on shada when the bbc did their version
Rob
July 12th, 2025 - 5:45pmRob and Anne-Marie’s Wheel short was a piece done as a tryout for her to take over the range from Charles. Rob was already working on the range from Power.

July 12th, 2025 - 11:34amThere’s a guy on ians facebook group who has stated that there is only 1 collection per year from 2026 to allow animation releases to catch up.
Have you heard anything Gordon.
Personally, being 45 I don’t mind but obviously a lot of older fans might not be with us to complete their collections in the end.
Gordon
July 12th, 2025 - 12:23pmIf it’s the Same person I’m thinking of he also claimed that nothing was being worked on for the 60s sets which was quickly debunked.
I kind of see it happening for the 60s but once all the colour seasons are out

July 12th, 2025 - 3:51pmThe Tardisgirl ‘Wheel’ animation is really excellent but I agree, not quite there for a commercial release if that were a possiblity. I am very much looking forward to their ‘Web’ 3 however. The official one is an admirable attempt but for me horrible to watch. The uncanny valley effect is just too much to my eyes.
The AI thing is still far too problematic I think. I have seen some of Ian Levine’s and there are moments that are remarkable then the next it looks absolutely horrible and that inconsistency is so jarring. Gavin Rymill is doing really impressive stuff with it just now but only short clips.
Even if the tech does inevitably get there, which I’m sure it will, the commercial rights and indeed ethics are probably too convoluted. Not as ‘simple’ as using animated likenesses. I teach art students and some of them may get into bother for using AI to simply generate a concept image for a proposed public artwork! Some official institutions are basically paranoid about it and I think the BBC might well be one of them.

July 12th, 2025 - 10:48amWhich blu ray drive would people reckon to red the pdf files on the dr who the collections sets? Thanks

July 12th, 2025 - 5:46amWhen are we getting a Troughton Season set? Surely Season 5 is complete with animation for the missing episodes, and if the BBC actually bought the computer animated ‘Wheel in Space’ currently found on YouTube (and it’s brilliant), we could get this Season out sooner rather than later.
ex15
July 12th, 2025 - 10:03amYes, it’s pretty good, save a a lot time, don’t think the BBC could do any better?
Rob
July 12th, 2025 - 10:08amIt’s perfectly viable for an inclusion for a collection release and they could release it soon.
Gordon
July 12th, 2025 - 10:26amSeason 5 isn’t complete though. It’s still needing wheel in space animation. Even If that animation was bought it would still need additional work for release which tardis time girl herself readily admits. It’s an excellent fan effort but there are definetly things that would get worked on if given a budget for release had happened. I suspect there is probably some sort of agreement in place to be done even if work ain’t started on it
Plus this could end up with dozens of submissions from other fans regardless of talent plus we would never hear the end from ian Levine and co who will drone on about how his terrible ai efforts must be used.
Gordon
July 12th, 2025 - 10:40amIf the bbc did the full story up to the standard of the minisode it would be good
James
July 12th, 2025 - 11:28amIs it the plan then Gordon to complete missing ones for 1, 3, 4, 5, and 6 before release of each Collection?
Prof Horner
July 12th, 2025 - 11:35amWell I kinda agree with you Gordon. Except Tardis Time girls animation is head and shoulders above most fan animations. Season 5 is an interesting season in as much as it’s fifty, fifty original episodes and animation. Although I would prefer season 6 first, I still think its a pity they couldn’t use time girls animation to get us are first Troughton season.
Gordon
July 12th, 2025 - 12:32pmI have no idea but I suspect 5, 6 and maybe 4 depending on highlanders. 1 and 3 has the challenges of Marco Polo and masterplan to cross first. think it all depends on what the next one’s are. It’s going to be tight regardless going by the current schedule
Gordon
July 12th, 2025 - 12:42pmIt is a fantastic effort and I’d love to see it be included however it may depend on who the executive was. If it was higher position than Russell he may have his hands tied.
Gordon
July 12th, 2025 - 1:05pmPlus I’d like to add I’d hold off a season 5 release anyway as I’d wait for her and her partner to finish web 3 first.
