Have been waiting on these. Such a shame they are slowed down to 24fps though. I mean they even allowed people to replace their 24fps Day of the Doctor discs from The Anniversary Collection and yet they release these in the UK / Region B as 24fps! I know they cant encode as 50fps on Blu-ray because of technical reasons but 25fps would do! Would be the same run time at least!

      No, actually that’s the point!

Blu-Ray doesn’t support 1080p at 25p! Only 24p is supported. But if you have something shot in 25p, you can encode it in 1080i50 and everything is fine. Since modern displays are always progressive, two 1080i fields are de-interlaced to one picture in 1080p and you have the correct speed. That’s how the restoration team did “Spearhead from space”

1080p24 is the best option for the US, but I actually don’t understand people buying the UK-BD-sets 1-4 (for any other reason than BD sized packaging) or complaining that the UK releases from are 1080i and not 1080p… If a BD is well made, there is no difference in quality between 1080i and 1080p

      Funny sidenote:
I own the German Blu-Ray for the Tennant specials and they didn’t bother upscaling “the next Doctor” and put that in on DVD instead 😀
