The ultimate collectors’ edition of the classic 1960s strip.

First published in TV Century 21 from 1965 to 1967, The Daleks was devised by Terry Nation and largely written by Doctor Who’s first story editor David Whitaker.

For this collectors’ edition, all 104 instalments have been digitally restored – the vast majority from the original artwork.

The bookazine also includes new features about the writers, illustrators and publishers who created The Daleks, including a detailed interview with artist Ron Turner.

Editor Marcus Hearn says: “This is the fulfilment of a long-held ambition. I loved this strip as a child and now – having seen the stunning restoration by DWM art editor Peri Godbold and her team – I admire it even more. You can’t really say The Daleks has been restored to its former glory, because I think it now looks better than it’s ever looked before.”

The Daleks is on sale at WH Smith, selected supermarkets from Wednesday 11 November priced £9.99 (UK). It’s also available as a digital edition, priced £8.99, from pocketmags.com.

Tried WHS early this morning & it hadn’t come in. Tried Newsstand & it was also sold out. One of the ebay seller’s has also sold out & the other is down to 5 copies – Luckily I purchased this from them earlier. I have no reason to believe this won’t sell out completely. I was going to purchase it from Panini with the DWM # 558 but they also sold out before I could get my order in.

Should I be concerned about this? I used the panini link from here to order this item. Now that link is dead and the password I used to set up the account isn’t recognised on the main panini sight.

Just ordered this from Forbidden Planet website. It says due 18th November. Do you think this is likely or will just go into a back order? I ask this as most other sources appear to be sold out.

Just tried to buy this in Sainsbury’s but they couldn’t sell it to me because for some bizarre reason it’s not on the system. No idea if this is just my store or countrywide it isn’t on the system.
Really annoying because it looks gorgeous and the paper is really thick and glossy.

I’ve had that before in the past with bookazines in Tescos but I’ve insisted they sell it to me. They can override the till.

I assume it being sold out not long after going online suggests the initial stock has gone as I assume they wouldn’t produce stock that would only last 24 hours so I wouldn’t be too surprised if more came up at a later date, especially the time and effort to produce this item.

No, just the original strips. I wouldn’t have expected the Vworp Vworp strip to be included, but missing out the DWM sequel when they surely hold the rights to a reprint seems a poor choice?

I finally managed to get an original dalek chronicles in lockdown (my most prized piece) in really good condition and im still really glad to own one. Im really glad everyone will finally be able to read and own a copy. Its truley some amazing art and storytelling from David whittaker who does so much more with the daleks then scream and kill. Looking forward to those extras.

I think having an original copy still might be a plus due to the art pages in this i can imagine being simalir to the dwm daleks special that had a few pages from this but with slighly more digital and updated art. Who knows.

It shouldn’t be. John Freeman said that it’ll be available from WH Smith’s and supermarkets. Mind you, that’s with an 11th November release date and all of a sudden Panini have said it’s out on the 9th – today.

It should have the same distribution as the Bookazines.

Yes, finally got mine ordered. Don’t know what was happening. I’ve got the old classic comics version of this but it’s starting to fall apart so I’m very happy about this. The only disappointment is it appears not to have the follow up strips in the magazine. But it’s only a small quibble. Can’t wait for it to be sent!
