Set 5: The Wirrn Completes the Series
After an exciting four months of collecting, Doctor Who fans will be delighted to know that the fifth and final set in the Doctor Who ‘Yeti’ Collect & Build series will go on sale in the next few days.
‘The Wirrn’ Vortex Edition figure 3-piece set hails from the classic series, season 1 (1975) story The Ark in Space. It includes an adult Wirrn creature and a Wirrn grub, together with the final collect & build piece: the Yeti’s left arm. As expected, the set is presented in Collect & Build Packaging and come complete with Back drop depicting the inside of the Nerva Station ‘Ark’

About the Wirrn
The Ark in Space is the second story to feature the newly regenerated Fourth Doctor. Travelling with companions Harry Sullivan and Sarah Jane Smith, its Harry’s accidental ‘twist’ of the Helmic Regulator which brings the TARDIS to a silent, seemingly derelict space station ‘Nerva’ orbiting Earth in the far future. This station is an ark—a sleeper ship carrying a gene bank for humanity after Earth was devastated by solar flares. Its systems, designed to awaken the survivors, when the Earth was habitable again, have been sabotaged. The humans remain asleep, while something slithers through the darkened corridors.
While examining the Ark’s solar-energy stack, the Doctor discovers a creature hidden inside: a Wirrn grub. The Wirrn is a wasp-like alien that reproduces by implanting its eggs in a host, such as one of the humans aboard the ship. Once the eggs hatch, the host is consumed. If left unchecked, the Wirrn swarm will devour the ark’s entire population of sleeping humans before turning its attention to Earth. It is up to the Doctor and his companions to stop the threat.
The adult Wirrn included in the set features high-quality decoration and articulation at the neck and waist. It is accompanied by a stage-two grub.
For collectors, the other key inclusion is the Yeti’s left arm—the final piece needed to complete the figure. Based on the Abominable Snowman from the 1967 story, the completed Yeti is an imposing 17 centimetres tall and features 14 points of articulation a true treasure in any collectors portfolio.
‘To echo Andrew Teal who sculpted the Wirrn figure, I’ve waited nearly 50 years to get an action figure of the Wirrn into my hands and now finally here it is.’ Commented, Creative Director, Al Dewar. ‘My love of Doctor WHO started with Jon Pertwee but was sealed into my psyche with the arrival of Tom Baker’s Fourth Doctor, and that most memorable debut season. Those stories and specifically ‘The Ark in Space’ have stayed with me as favourites ever since. To this day every time I watch it that story has everything that I love about the show, a deadly and truly horrifying alien which consumes its host, a battered old police box grinding into reality aboard a gleaming space station, huge insect grubs eating people and slithering off into ventilation shafts, humanity’s indomitable spirit being pitched against terrible odds and yet, most importantly … deadly bubble wrap!’

November 6th, 2026 - 12:09pmI can’t wait to get this, and if I could afford to, I would be getting more than one. It’s going to be a squeeze to fit it into the section of my collection where the season 12 and 13 figures live, but I don’t mind that too much – I’ll make it work.
