The ultimate collectors’ edition of the classic 1960s strip.
First published in TV Century 21 from 1965 to 1967, The Daleks was devised by Terry Nation and largely written by Doctor Who’s first story editor David Whitaker.
For this collectors’ edition, all 104 instalments have been digitally restored – the vast majority from the original artwork.
The bookazine also includes new features about the writers, illustrators and publishers who created The Daleks, including a detailed interview with artist Ron Turner.
Editor Marcus Hearn says: “This is the fulfilment of a long-held ambition. I loved this strip as a child and now – having seen the stunning restoration by DWM art editor Peri Godbold and her team – I admire it even more. You can’t really say The Daleks has been restored to its former glory, because I think it now looks better than it’s ever looked before.”
The Daleks is on sale at WH Smith, selected supermarkets from Wednesday 11 November priced £9.99 (UK). It’s also available as a digital edition, priced £8.99, from pocketmags.com.

November 11th, 2020 - 6:01pmTried WHS early this morning & it hadn’t come in. Tried Newsstand & it was also sold out. One of the ebay seller’s has also sold out & the other is down to 5 copies – Luckily I purchased this from them earlier. I have no reason to believe this won’t sell out completely. I was going to purchase it from Panini with the DWM # 558 but they also sold out before I could get my order in.

November 11th, 2020 - 7:30pmYou can request this issue at newsstand.co.uk if they’re sold out. They’re pretty good, never had any problems with them so far.

November 11th, 2020 - 5:53pmShould I be concerned about this? I used the panini link from here to order this item. Now that link is dead and the password I used to set up the account isn’t recognised on the main panini sight.

November 11th, 2020 - 6:03pmnever used them but they sold out yesterday and link went dead

November 11th, 2020 - 8:36pmJust managed to get into my account and the magazine has been sent. Had to go in a bit of a roundabout route to get in though.

November 11th, 2020 - 5:35pmJust ordered this from Forbidden Planet website. It says due 18th November. Do you think this is likely or will just go into a back order? I ask this as most other sources appear to be sold out.

November 11th, 2020 - 5:21pmWow, I wondered when this would be published again. Looks awesome. I hope they do a deluxe hardback of this.

November 11th, 2020 - 5:13pmGot it in Tesco on the Castlereagh Road in East Belfast today- they had three copies (two after I’d bought mine) at 1pm today.

November 11th, 2020 - 1:43pmJust tried to buy this in Sainsbury’s but they couldn’t sell it to me because for some bizarre reason it’s not on the system. No idea if this is just my store or countrywide it isn’t on the system.
Really annoying because it looks gorgeous and the paper is really thick and glossy.

November 11th, 2020 - 1:48pmThat’s so strange! I’m off to Tesco shortly so will see if they have the same issue. Thanks for letting us know 🙂 hope you manage to get hold of your copy.

November 11th, 2020 - 3:44pmI’ve had that before in the past with bookazines in Tescos but I’ve insisted they sell it to me. They can override the till.

November 10th, 2020 - 11:14pmI assume it being sold out not long after going online suggests the initial stock has gone as I assume they wouldn’t produce stock that would only last 24 hours so I wouldn’t be too surprised if more came up at a later date, especially the time and effort to produce this item.

November 10th, 2020 - 5:16pmWill they get more stock? Gutted I missed out

November 11th, 2020 - 9:57amOn Newstand it states that there are 30+ copies left as of 9.45 gmt today

November 11th, 2020 - 11:41amI just ordered 2 from newsstand.co.uk, can’t be bothered traipsing around looking for it. What I’ve saved in petrol pays postage. Thanks for the link…
Timelord63
November 10th, 2020 - 12:57pmI very highly doubt that WHSmiths will get this in this week as they are notoriously bad at getting the Bookazines in on publication date or even weeks later!
Tony Butcher
November 10th, 2020 - 9:50amJust tried to get it via Panini website and it is not there anymore

November 10th, 2020 - 10:00amyes gone, I’m wondering if they put it up to early in haste because a couple of people put it in twitter before the rebase date

November 10th, 2020 - 11:42amDoes Panini actually ever respond to e-mails, on-line form or facebook ?
Gareth Pugh
November 10th, 2020 - 11:57amPeter Ware (DMW dep ed) has tweeted that the Panini store has sold out but that you should be able to get it from local WHSmiths if open. Also, they hope to get more for the Panini store at some point
daz
November 10th, 2020 - 12:13pmIn England I’m assuming all WH Smith’s are closed as not an essential store.
I would prefer to see it in person before I buy it as I already have the 90’s version.
Tony Butcher
November 10th, 2020 - 1:40pmWell they should just say it’s sold out rather than keep coming up with an error page saying ‘internal server error’
John
November 11th, 2020 - 12:47pmWHS should be open, its a newsagent and some have post offices in them.

November 10th, 2020 - 12:59amAh Bookazine another one of those words that makes me hate this world a little more each day.
The thing itself is great and I will buy this, I hope it has some Daleks in it…from the cover it’s hard to tell.
James
November 9th, 2020 - 8:14pmDoes this come with the Doctor Who Magazine Subscription or do I need to buy this separately? Sounds like a daft question i know but going shopping tomorrow and thought i’d ask. Many thanks.

November 9th, 2020 - 8:17pmpretty sure they have said not

November 9th, 2020 - 10:44pmThank you booboo.

November 9th, 2020 - 7:33pmI’m aiming to buy this anyway, but I’m just wondering, does this set also include the sequel strips printed in ‘Doctor Who Magazine’ and ‘Vworp Vworp – Volume 3’?
Dave
November 10th, 2020 - 9:21amNo, just the original strips. I wouldn’t have expected the Vworp Vworp strip to be included, but missing out the DWM sequel when they surely hold the rights to a reprint seems a poor choice?

November 9th, 2020 - 7:29pmWhati find annoying is “available at WHSmiths and selected supermarkets”… what about normal newsagents? Mine couldn’t even get the production special a few weeks ago, why not make it available everywhere? Looking forward to it!

November 9th, 2020 - 6:23pmAnyone know if they ship to the US?
David Minter
November 9th, 2020 - 6:47pmI am curious to know this, too. I already own The Dalek Chronicles, bought like 20 years ago off of eBay, but I would like to own this release, as well. Maybe WhoNA might carry some copies.

November 9th, 2020 - 5:47pmIt says in the press release.
A dalek gave me flowers
November 9th, 2020 - 4:20pmI finally managed to get an original dalek chronicles in lockdown (my most prized piece) in really good condition and im still really glad to own one. Im really glad everyone will finally be able to read and own a copy. Its truley some amazing art and storytelling from David whittaker who does so much more with the daleks then scream and kill. Looking forward to those extras.
I think having an original copy still might be a plus due to the art pages in this i can imagine being simalir to the dwm daleks special that had a few pages from this but with slighly more digital and updated art. Who knows.

November 9th, 2020 - 2:19pmThanks Gareth. Have to go get shopping later in the week so I’ll try to get the mag at the same time.

November 9th, 2020 - 2:01pmno idea yet not had a PR about it

November 9th, 2020 - 2:17pmIt shouldn’t be. John Freeman said that it’ll be available from WH Smith’s and supermarkets. Mind you, that’s with an 11th November release date and all of a sudden Panini have said it’s out on the 9th – today.
It should have the same distribution as the Bookazines.

November 9th, 2020 - 1:24pmThe dalek that is front and centre really reminds me of the first movie dalek supreme

November 9th, 2020 - 12:58pmGreat release.
Earlier this year I bought a custom made hardcover book of The Dalek Chronicles, its really a gorgeous book, I’ve just ordered this Daleks graphic novel so that I can keep my hardcover version in pristine condition 🙂

November 9th, 2020 - 11:33amI have just gone to the Panini store and ordered without any problems, using PayPal. Can’t wait to receive this – looks awesome.

November 9th, 2020 - 12:39pmYes, finally got mine ordered. Don’t know what was happening. I’ve got the old classic comics version of this but it’s starting to fall apart so I’m very happy about this. The only disappointment is it appears not to have the follow up strips in the magazine. But it’s only a small quibble. Can’t wait for it to be sent!
