does anyone the answer to 17 across in the crossword.

17 across – recently appointed to the staff at coal hill school (4,5)

    answer – ?a??y ?i??

according to a contributor on the tardis data core website this clue is almost certainly a spoiler for an upcoming episode,so how anyone is supposed to know the answer i have no idea.

i hope someone can help, because i’m stuffed if i’m going to a month for the next issue to get the answer,i’ve never had to before so i don’t see why i should have to start doing so now.

    PLEASE HELP!!!

I’ve always been surprised that ‘Paradise Towers’ isn’t more popular. I know there are problems with the production values (you’d have to be trying quite hard in order NOT to escape from the cleaner robots) and I accept that Richard Briers’ performance descends into the ridiculous. Having said that, it’s a wonderful piece of social commentary. It engages very thoroughly with the theme of failed social utopian housing projects, something that was a huge issue at the time, and even hints at some solutions. Plus, as a child I found it very scary.

It is a great piece of writing, I think the issue for the majority is how relevant is it to Doctor Who. It works very well on paper.

On screen, episode 1-3 are very good, and episode four is atrocious. The overall product fails for most despite some very very good performances. Briers starts off outstanding and ends up the victim of miscasting because he has never had to play possessed villains before.

      June 2nd, 2014 - 11:39am

I’d have to disagree about it’s relevance to Doctor Who. What makes the show so great is that anything has the potential to be relevant. It’s just a case of where the TARDIS happens to land and the situation in which the Doctor finds himself.

I’d like to think that Briers’ performance could be attributed to miscasting but I suspect that’s being too kind. One senses that he’s simply being indulgent and showing a lack of respect to the writers and other actors. He was apparently asked to tone it down but point-blank refused.

The Ark in Space is easily the best written Doctor Who story of all time. It has some great performances and, waist-up, the Wirrn are brilliant.

It should have faired better really.

    • Doctor Rules

      June 1st, 2014 - 3:26pm

thank you the Monitor, I totally agree with you. I would rather watch The Ark in Space ten times over watching Day of the Doctor once. Day of the Doctor was confusing, the Daleks were hardly in it, im not so keen on the new zygon design, and the only good thing about it was Matt, David and John Hurts performances, Galifrey being resurrected and Tom as the curator. Ark meanwhile, a strong story, brilliant performances, awesome monsters, the Wirrn, and the only reason why people don’t like it is because of the bubble wrap. But hey it was 1974!

    • The Monitor

      June 1st, 2014 - 9:05pm

I was ok with most of the poll, except for me DotD was very poor. Of the 9 people I know who watch every episode of Who, only one of them thought DotD was ok and the rest disliked it.

I was extremely disappointed with DotD and just cannot believe how so many people rate it highly particularly when I suspect the average opinion of the 9 adults I know would place it in the bottom 40.

I would say that of those 9 people, 8 would put The Ark in Space higher.

Perhaps DotD will become the next most “controversial” story; opinion is not unanimous.

    • booboo

      May 29th, 2014 - 4:29pm

leaks are things that happen before the official publication date at which time the info is out there

There are a handful have sites that take pride in giving out information before this day

i wont allow it here but there were at least 10 people yesterday who tried to copy and paste the list into the comments therefore trying to ruin the surprise for those who would rather find out themselves today

    • Trenzalore

For a lot of people its the most recent awsome episode episode they had seen so it will have been given high marks as it is still in their minds. Think it will drop down a fair few places in the next poll. Its a good story but no way better than genesis or andrizani or city of death

Although I thought some were over rated e.g caves of androzani , pyramids of Mars
