Doctor Who Magazine Issue 450

Doctor Who Magazine Issue 450

In an exclusive, brand new interview with Matt Smith, Doctor Who Magazine imagines what would happen if he could talk with the actor who played the Doctor’s Second incarnation, Patrick Troughton: MATT: “Patrick has a very Doctory face.

Everything about Patrick is Doctory! He is peculiar without ever asking you to find him peculiar. All the elements were right.

I loved his costume.” PATRICK: “Well, you go along to the costumiers and they produce various things, and you say, ‘Ahh, that would be good…’”

Head writer and executive producer STEVEN MOFFAT drops his guard and reveals what’s happening with the next 14 episodes of Doctor Who, exclusively in PRODUCTION NOTES!

DWM talks to writer CHRIS CHIBNALL and grills him about his forthcoming scripts in the new season of Doctor Who – DINOSAURS ON A SPACESHIP and the “very different” Episode 4…

DWM pays tribute to the late CAROLINE JOHN, the much-loved actress who played the Third Doctor’s assistant Liz Shaw and died in June – and looks back over her life and times.

Seasoned Dalek operators NICHOLAS PEGG and BARNABY EDWARDS give DWM readers on a unique, Dalek-eye view of the making of 2005’s BAD WOLF/THE PARTING OF THE WAYS – accompanied by photos from their private collections!

Stern Sontarans, ambitious Androgums and fantastic food! Yes, it’s time to uncover the fascinating details of what really happened when the Second and Sixth incarnations met, as THE FACT OF FICTION looks back at the 1985 adventure THE TWO DOCTORS!

DWM investigates STARWATCH, a sci-fi series that, had it been made in the 1990s, would have starred JON PERTWEE. With never-before-published images from the project, DWM talks to the people who tried to make it happen…

COUNTDOWN TO 50 takes a nostalgic look back at the story which celebrated Doctor Who’s 20th anniversary with some old friends – and some ever older enemies! – as it remembers THE FIVE DOCTORS.

The Doctor, Amy and Rory face up to a ruthless collection of alien criminals within a mysterious ziggurat stuffed with priceless treasures in THE CORNUCOPIA CAPER, the latest DWM comic strip, written by SCOTT GRAY with art by DAN McDAID!

The Time Team convenes to watch one of the most innovative and controversial Doctor Who stories of all time – 2006’s LOVE & MONSTERS. But what will Emma, Chris, Will and Michael make of it…?

DWM strands TOBY HADOKE and JOHNNY CANDON on a desert island, with only eight Doctor Who stories each to keep them company. But which episodes will they choose? And whose selection do you agree with? Find out, in A BATTLE OF WITS!

The mysterious Watcher marvels at the TARDIS’ food machine, challenges readers with his Six Faces of Delusion, and champions another Supporting Artist of the Month in WOTCHA!

Great double sided poster free with this issue 😀

I like the side of all 3 New Series incarnations of the Doctor, but I’m going to have the Daleks instead. I was hopeing if DWM would release the awesome cover of the various Daleks as a poster . . . . seems I was right 😀

    Cheers DWM 😉

    July 25th, 2012 - 7:39pm

(DOCTOR WHO DW) dont make sense, just keep it the same logo or take the DW out of it, after all, it’s (DOCTOR WHO) not (DOCTOR DW WHO) or (DOCTOR WHO DW), you might as well call it (DW DOCTOR WHO)

    • Esterath

      July 25th, 2012 - 9:59am

    • Give me a Dalek any day

      July 25th, 2012 - 10:00am

Yes, I’m wondering that too. 😉

    • tom

      July 25th, 2012 - 5:03pm

the middle of the cover logo will suddenly change

    • Give me a Dalek any day

      July 25th, 2012 - 5:09pm

I know, but it won’t really mess it up.

    July 24th, 2012 - 2:01pm

Everyone can relax now the logo isn’t Doctor DW Who its Doctor Who DW. Thank the lord. I’m EXPECTING SOME CRITISM BUT IT IS MY OPINION AND EVERYONE HAS ONE

  • McGann is The Doctor.

    July 24th, 2012 - 1:50pm

The New ARRANGEMENT of the logo, yes ! ❗ They stopped calling the show Doctor DW Who !

It’s back to Doctor Who now ! JOY !!! 🙂

This week has had the best Doctor Who news in ages. ❗

  • The Time Lord of Doom

    July 23rd, 2012 - 9:42pm

    The new logo… It’s so… So… I don’t really like it!! 🙁

    • Esterath

      July 23rd, 2012 - 9:51pm

I like it. I didn’t like the DW in the middle as it seemed like it was Doctor DW Who! Now it’s like Doctor Who DW. Why do you not like it? Just want to hear your opinion!

    • Give me a Dalek any day

      July 24th, 2012 - 7:13am

I like it. Yes, I prefered the other one, but this one is still quite nice. 🙂

    • The Time Lord of Doom

      July 24th, 2012 - 8:59am

Well, I prefer when the DW is in the middle. It looks very wrong for it to be beside “Doctor Who”. I’d prefer if the left it just “Doctor Who” than “Doctor Who DW”. Or maybe put it back to “Doctor DW Who”!!

    • Dalek Jake

      July 24th, 2012 - 1:19pm

I agree with The Time Lord of Doom.

    • Give me a Dalek any day

      July 24th, 2012 - 6:56pm

I’ll agree that it feels quite empty without the DW in the middle, but, as I said before, it doesn’t look too bad. We’ll all get used to it…….eventually! 😀

    • The Time Lord of Doom

      July 24th, 2012 - 7:41pm

Can’t agree with you there Give me a Dalek any day. First of all, it’ll take me ages to get used to it. And it’s a better design when it’s Doctor DW Who. It looks odd with it beside it.

    • tom

      July 25th, 2012 - 10:28pm

      Agree with Timelord Of Doom

I have to admit, I’ve already got used to it. After all it is on: Doctor Who Adventures, Doctor Who Magazine, Doctor Who Experience and the official Doctor Who site.

Wow! Issue 450, 50 Months Later It Will Be Issue 500

    • The Other

      July 23rd, 2012 - 9:14am

I think you means 5 months?!

      July 23rd, 2012 - 9:22am

No, this is a monthly magazine, not weekly.

    • The Other

      July 23rd, 2012 - 10:36am

      What?! Oh, right! facepalm.

    • Anonymous

      July 23rd, 2012 - 3:13pm

It’s not monthly either. It’s every four weeks, so it will be the 500th issue in 200 weeks time, so just under four years as opposed to just over it.

    • Esterath

      July 23rd, 2012 - 3:20pm

So Issue 500 will be out in September 2016-ish?

It would be interesting to see the Patrick Trouhton interview and how they do it.

  • Moxx of Who

    July 22nd, 2012 - 5:26pm

Ok cover. Should be gold as its 450! The new logo is ok. They need to update some thing of the matt smith era. David tennant’s 3rd series had a new theme tune. Maybe they can bring back his series 4 one. That was the best theme tune ever!

    • McGann is The Doctor.

      July 23rd, 2012 - 6:19pm

I prefer Matt Smith’s theme tune to the Series 4 one.

Series 4 was just too upbeat, it wasn’t ominous atall.

I agree I hope they change the theme tune, add an extra layer to it, a layer of the dum-dum bom bee bee effect. Another improvement would be to have Matt Smith’s FACE in the title sequence which would be cool. 🙂 (PLEASE MOFFAT, I’VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS….)

  • Alex The Geek

    July 22nd, 2012 - 3:57pm

This is going to be my 75th issues of Doctor Who Magazine! 🙂

    • McGann is The Doctor.

      July 22nd, 2012 - 4:55pm

It will be my next one, I have all the modern ones since the “Mighty 200” special, including that special.

I also have atleast ten issues from the 80s/90s off ebay. 🙂

      How many is that ?

    • Anonymous

      July 22nd, 2012 - 5:43pm

What was your first regular issue? The specials are out of sequence and are out for a good few months.

    • Nicholas

      July 22nd, 2012 - 9:54pm

This’ll be my 24th. I did have more but they probably got thrown out over time

    • Alex The Geek

      July 23rd, 2012 - 10:05am

Mt first one was the Goodbye Rose issue back in 2006. I was so upset at Rose leaving when my Mum saw the issue in Smiths she got for me. I don’t count the specials in my total DWMs

    • McGann is The Doctor.

      July 23rd, 2012 - 6:20pm

The issue about the mighty 200 is an actual issue. Yes it was my first and I have every issue since then.

I am not talking about the DWM companion, making-of-the-show specials, although I have all the Matt Smith ones. 😉

  • give them hell danny boy

    July 21st, 2012 - 10:21pm

I still think they should have kept the DW inbeween doctor who. But oh well, what can you do eh? just gotta live with it and think possitive PS: i think for the 5othaniversary special episodes, the logo should be gold.

    • tom

      July 22nd, 2012 - 12:47am

it is gonna be gold, haven’t you seen the poster of luke smith

    • Proffesor When

      July 22nd, 2012 - 8:01am

Also the DW should be a 50!

    • The Casterline

      July 22nd, 2012 - 10:15am

like on the 40th they but it on the audio which looked cool

    • Jaketorwho

      July 22nd, 2012 - 2:14pm

The luke smith poster is fake! All posters seen so far are. But i reckon it will be gold! I also prefer the logo in the middle. But now it looks odd. I guess over time it will grow on me.

    • tom

      July 24th, 2012 - 12:36am

DOCTOR 50 WHO will look superb in gold glittery writing

    • tom

      July 24th, 2012 - 12:40am

      or DOCTOR WHO 50

  • Dalek Jake

    July 21st, 2012 - 10:14pm

Will the TV show and every new piece of merchandise have this logo? I hope not.

  • Bigger on the Inside

    July 21st, 2012 - 9:04pm

Still think he logo should be gold, even if it’s just for the build up to the 50 th episode!

    • McGann is The Doctor.

      July 22nd, 2012 - 4:56pm

      That’s 50th ANNIVERSARY episode.

  • Jarrod

    July 21st, 2012 - 8:37pm

Simply put the DW at the side, and the Who underneath ‘Doctor’ in the titles and there we have it.

    • Black TARDIS

      July 21st, 2012 - 8:38pm

Yeah, the logo change may also bring a new set of titles

    • daz

      July 21st, 2012 - 11:51pm

think its changed so that for next year its easy to have ‘Doctor Who 50’ as anniversary logo… its easy for them to fit the 50 over the DW.

  • CyberGold

    July 21st, 2012 - 8:36pm

  • McGann is The Doctor.

    July 21st, 2012 - 8:03pm

Gotta say I LOVE this cover, the last issue had so much on it, too much.

But I wonder, is this a sign of , I hate to say it, budgetary constraints ? ❓

  • Jason doctorwhoone

    July 21st, 2012 - 7:35pm

Personally Ive never been keen on the DW Tardis shape logo, but it feels wrong not seeing it in between the words.

    • McGann is The Doctor.

      July 21st, 2012 - 8:01pm

      I am the opposite.

I liked it, but having it between the words makes the show called Doctor D W Who, so I’m gald they have done this.

  • Give me a Dalek any day

    July 21st, 2012 - 7:16pm

Nice cover! 🙂 I’m getting used to the new logo now, but I still think the DW in the middle was better. 😛

    • GreenAnchorRedWaterfall

      July 21st, 2012 - 7:44pm

What…? They changed the logo? On the show? DX

  • Melina

    July 21st, 2012 - 6:57pm

    Lovely cover!

  • RandomBananaGuy

    July 21st, 2012 - 6:40pm

I like the basic covers! They are cool

  • JamieBate

    July 21st, 2012 - 6:37pm

I’m happy with this cover, I can tollerate Smith when he isn’t spurting catchphrases or acting like a four year old so this pose appeals to me, it commands respect and makes him look the dominating figure he ought to be.
I have read in the back page of Issue 449 that this issue is to be a bumper one meaning it will be larger, which I am glad off as I’m off on holiday the day it comes out which will give me something to read why I’m there I am sure.

  • Ross Campbell

    July 21st, 2012 - 6:31pm

First to comment yay and if you can answer me this booboo why dw is not the middle?

    • booboo

      July 21st, 2012 - 6:32pm

they have changed it, DWA and some postcards are like it, suspect everything form now on will have it that way

    • Doctorpond393

      July 21st, 2012 - 7:10pm

I’m interested into how they will incorporate it into the title sequence unless we get a new one?

    • McGann is The Doctor.

      July 21st, 2012 - 8:02pm

A new title sequence with the new logo, I doubt it.

It will be the same title sequence but hopefully the logo will also be changed. 😀

    • Anonymous

      July 22nd, 2012 - 11:38am

Not necessarily, the title sequence has been using a silver version of that “blue” logo all the merchandise used for the past two years, it wouldn’t suprise me if they just have a new one for the merchandise.

Although the logo was changed for Series 3, so it wouldn’t suprise me if there was a similar change for 11-3.
