Fury from the Deep Blu-ray

Available to order from www.amazon.co.uk or www.zoom.co.uk

BBC Studios is pleased to announce that Fury from the Deep will be released in 2020. It will follow the release of The Faceless Ones, announced earlier this year, and fill another gap in missing Doctor Who content. Following the success of existing animations The Power of the Daleks, Shada and The Macra Terror, Fury from the Deep will be released on DVD, Blu-ray and as an exclusive Steelbook later next year.

Fury from the Deep is the missing sixth serial of the fifth season of Doctor Who, which was first broadcast in six weekly parts from March to April 1968. Starring Patrick Troughton as the Doctor, the story concerns a colony of sentient, parasitic seaweed, last seen in the eighteenth century, returning to attack a number of gas instillations in the North Sea in an attempt to take over humanity.

No full episodes of this story exist within the BBC archives, and only snippets of footage and still images are still around to represent the story. However, off-air recordings of the soundtrack do exist, thus making the animation of a complete serial possible once again.

The six new animated episodes are being made in full colour, in the original black and white and in high definition and the release will include the surviving clips from the original 1968 production. It also stars Frazer Hines as Jamie McCrimmon and Deborah Watling as Victoria Waterfield.

Correct me if I’m wrong but if the team working on Fury from the Deep is the same team from Planet 55 that did the Moonbase call me one very happy Doctor Who fan. Is there any news yet regarding the 2021 releases? I’m not sure how much Covid-19 has affected production but with two teams I’m hoping they can do another two releases next year. It seems likely that Evil of the Daleks is next after The Macra Terror and The Faceless Ones but I’m not sure what the second release could be. Perhaps The Wheel in Space? I doubt The Abominable Snowmen will be easier than a base under seige story.

As far as I’m aware it has been mentioned that another Troughton story is in the works for early 2021 but that’s all we know so far.

The animations are done remotely from home anyway so it really shouldn’t effect the schedule. Only if they wanted to do special features like a making of or any on camera interviews there maybe some problems. I think it will be evil and abominable next year. Evil as it’s the next Troughton after faceless ones and abominable as it’s the same tardis team as fury and if the team that did power got another special edition to work on I’d go for underwater menace. Abominable is classified as a base under siege and would actually be easier to do than wheel. There are only 8 human characters (Doctor Jamie and Victoria are already done for fury) to create plus the yeti which would only need 1 to be created and they then could copy. The indoor sets are extremely basic too. The only real issue Is the outdoor sets but it’s far from impossible

So.. my pre-order on Amazon has vanished, and I can’t find it again on Amazon at all. That’s pretty strange. Anyone got a clue to what’s going on?

I wonder if this new team will be responsible for working on stories that include Victoria since will have a model of her. Leaving the other studio to continue to work on stories with Ben and Polly.

Is there a high probability that these animated missing stories will be included on the future blu ray collection sets in the seasons they are from?

So long as they aren’t right on top of each other in the release schedule, they will be included eventually.

Any animations that are made will be included.

I wonder if they are going to try and fit third animated title into 2020? The animated stories are selling well on pre-order and once released so it might spur the BBC on to produce more. Faceless Ones – Spring, Fury – Summer, ? – Autumn

They only have 2 teams. Think they would struggle to fit a third animation tbh. I fully expect a couple of announcements in 2020 for release in 2021

I don’t expect more than these two next year, but there are shorter stories missing, so if they chose to do them, then we may get 3 blu-rays in 2021.

Zoom, just one look and then my heart went boom
Suddenly and we were on the moon
Flyin’ high in a neon sky, oh oh 🙂

Zoom currently have £ 35 (McCoy BR) £17+ £17 (Faceless & Fury BR) All paypal, so paid up.

Fantastic news, and very left Field (I and a lot of others ) thought it would be Space Pirates, as there was mumblings that season 6, was coming sooner rather than later. Add to this Season 12 BR and I need a new job 😉

Looks like this is all going pretty well. I remember that “Shada” was made all by freelancer after their regular job, and “Macra Terror” was made in a specially created studio and now I hear they have separate two teams working at the same time. This sounds like BBC really put the money into this project and I feel like there might be a plan to animate the all missing episodes.

Does anyone think that we might get The Faceless Ones before or around Christmas?

Nope. It’s due in 2020. If it was coming before Christmas the release date would have been revealed by now

doubt it. the BFI always have a screening of it before any actual release and they have no such screening scheduled for 2019. expect to see it early 2020 next year

Think zoom have mis-priced the blu ray of it. £999.99
