Doctor Who Diamond Classic Doomsday 5″ Set

Diamond Classic is an unofficial title give to a series of re-releases issued in “Diamond” packaging. These re-releases were distributed mostly in the USA and Australia by Underground Toys. Some eventually found their way to the UK.

Isn’t tomorrow doomsday? Well, not really. It is, however, time for Doctor Who enthusiasts to glom onto these wonderful action figures from the “Doomsday” episode of the popular BBC series.

Features…

  • 10th Doctor with 3D Glasses
  • Dalek Sec with Updated Tooling
  • Cybermen
  • Updated “Diamond Classic” Packaging

This out-of-this-world giftset presents 3 faithfully replicated 5-inch characters: Doctor Who, Cyberman, and Black Dalek. Use them to recreate your favorite scenes or exciting new adventures! Ages 5 and up.

doomday-750

The doomsday set was first released in 2006 the UK with a long coated 10th Doctor, Dalek Sec and Cyberman. A Second release in 2007 saw the 10th Doctor replaced with a Version with no coat and 3D Glasses.

The Diamond Classic release was the first set to feature a newly tooled and much more accurate Dalek Sec (shown left). The differences can be clearly seen in the Neck, Gun and Base.

I had this problem, I’ve painted mine over in acrylic silver but it won’t stop the brush marks, it’s because they were sculpted in black

I can finally get this here in Britain (where everything Doctor Who should rightfully and logically be released first) AND not have to pay a ridiculous amount of extra cash!

I bought this from The Who Shop in London (yes, probably the ONLY place in the UK with the US re-releases in stock) and I’m enjoying it!

Apart from the fact it cost me £40, but hey, new sculpt Sec, Tennant in newly sculpted glasses (More accurate than from the S2 tesco set) and hard plastic head/hands (like TRU 10Doctor with Dalek), and a cyberman with slightly larger hands, I’m not complaining!

Getting tired of all these Diamond Classic re-releases being non-UK because that means they don’t show up in Ireland either. I would have bought a lot this along with The Captain jack re-release and the laser screwdriver.

    At last!
    A properly proportioned Dalek Sec!

It was a pain in the butt, modifying and repairing my old one (I didn’t like the fat weapon arm and stumpy manipulator arm, and his head/dome wouldn’t rotate completely. Changed the arms, and repaired the head).

When will we get a 5″ David tenant with the ‘new’ sculpt without accessories? It seems to be the most obvious idea, the new sculpt on the old body with proper articulation but whenever it appears he always go something on his head. It annoys me deeply…

Got this from The Who Shop.com today and am very pleased with it! For so long I have wanted a New Mould of Dalek Sec and thought that it should have come with The Tenth Doctor in the Toys R Us Dalek Twin Pack instead of The Crucible Dalek. But I guess now it doesn’t matter because I have it!

Still problems on the site – Very wary of using it at the moment. Some pages coming up blank, refusing to allow Paypal only credit cards (Phishing?) & when trying to go through the Order process it won’t complete correctly – Still dodgy if you ask me…

Yeah it seems to have cleared Google checks but my antivirus is still flagging it as a phishing risk and initially blocking access with a “on your head be it” style warning. I’m not risking it until this changes.

I bought this set with Christmas money and it’s pretty damn good. The Cyberman is a bit ordinary but the tweaked Dalek Sec looks better and the revised Tennant head sculpt with the 3D glasses is fun. Just a shame the Tennant figure still doesn’t have bicep and thigh articulation like the other Doctors.

      January 10th, 2014 - 6:27pm

Personally I would find that a plus. The arms fall off my Eleventh Doctor figures at the bicep all the time. And it’s not just the same figure, it’s every Eleventh Doctor figure.

    • TARDISGuy

      January 11th, 2014 - 1:35am

Yeah, but it means all the Tennant figures look weird when trying to move in the same way as the other Doctors, plus he can’t use his sonic screwdriver properly. There’s only one Doctor I’ve had joint problems with and that was the 8th Doctor from the Doctor/Dalek two pack (his right arm never stays in). I was very disappointed.

It’s ridiculous that these are not being sold in the UK. Sure, they were sold in the UK years ago, but either not everyone was aware of their existence, or they simply missed out. Not only that, but these figures are updated.

Surely some website must be willing to sell these at a reasonable price.

      They have
      Captain Jack
      4th doctor wave 1 version
10th doctor with spikey hair & blue suit
10th doctor with combned hair & grey shirt

      January 9th, 2014 - 8:03pm

it would cost more than that to get them posted from the USA individually probably but they are essentially £10 figures

They must have got some shipped in,

I have all of those here but have yet to take pictures, once i have i will be selling those as well, they just cost me far to much to warrant keeping them
