I saw this recently in my local entertainer store, not something I would buy as it just includes an extra piece of plastic. My advice- Stick with the 11ths.

It is far superior to the 2010 Elevenths screwdriver. I own both this and the 11ths and there are many improvements that have been made. Plus it is relatively screen accurate to what Capaldi uses in the show. All in all a wonderful addition to the collection.

Yes, they use the same model. But this is a new model for the toy – as there is no button to make the lights and sounds. So technically… no. It’s not.

So basically there is no but to activate the light s and sounds you just put two fingers on both sides of the handle and it activates.

Power core looks interesting but still no attempts at getting rid of the extension button? Surely, they could use magnets to do it like the real prop.

Maybe the power core is taken out and put into some sort of machine or the tardis

Haven’t seen the power core in the tv series. Is it just a thing for the build your own sonic set or is it something that is going to be featured in an episode?

I’m assuming it would be in an upcoming storyline. If it wasn’t, I’m not sure why it would be included.

Actually, it was sort of seen in “A Christmas Carol”, when one half of the sonic screwdriver is stuck inside the flying shark.

But it look completely different, and bigger, than what this version of the toy is going to represent.

There’s also a “single button” version too coming out at around the same time.
    Still spring loaded though…

I wonder if the button is merely a release button and it will also have a flick feature rather than a spring loaded pop up top. That would make it even more prop accurate and to be honest might make me want to buy it.

So this is the Twelth Doctor’s Sonic Screwdriver but in the description it says “Be just like Matt Smith”

You know, I have no idea how many incarnations of the Doctor there have been now, thanks to the 50th anniversary, so I’m completely confused.

Twelve Doctors, but fourteen incarnations (although the “War Doctor” was granted honourary “Doctor” status by his successors).

If you think this is somehow MORE accurate, I’ve got a screen-used bridge to sell you.

    • THE ENIGMATIC WATCHER

      June 23rd, 2014 - 3:53pm

I meant this toy seems to be a more accurate representation of the prop (save the “power core” feature which is a slight unknown in regards to whether it appears on-screen in Series 8 or not) and its features such as the correct lower placement of the activation button on the black “grip” section and the ability to now activate the lights and sounds while the sonic is extended from said button. In short, this toy is more functionally accurate to the prop(s) than the previous and current versions of the toy available.

I’ll have to get this – but do you think it closes? I looks like it might – and it appears to have a button to extend the sonic… this definitely looks like an updated, better version of the sonic they’ve just re-released.
