Think Geek currently have the shipping option to the uk available again but they’ve increased the price of the lava lamp to $39.99.

I wonder if it’s because it contains paraffin? Maybe they weren’t supposed to ship these on a plane?

When I placed my order with Think Geek, there’s a warning notice informing that the lamp contains material that is known to be cancer causing.

I’m wondering if this ‘material’ is banned in the E.U. and as such Think Geek have had to stop shipping to the uk and Europe?

    • booboo

although the warning only seems to cover the State of California.

For those lucky few that got one well done! It’s a Licensing issue like many items from the usa.

Wow, I am so impressed with Think Geek, my lamp has just been delivered. 2 days delivery time from America and I chose the cheaper option!!!

It’s all in one piece, and thankfully I didn’t have to pay any import fee’s or taxes so the total cost including delivery to the uk was £48.

I can’t wait to switch it on just as soon as the voltage converter plug arrives, which incidentally was being sent from the uk so that’ll arrive sometime next week probably.

I recommend everyone use Think Geek that wants this. 🙂

      That’s really good

That happened to me when I ordered the Tardis lights from them and the adaptor from a UK eBay seller no guesses which one arrive first

I just ordered one from Think Geek at $29.99, they ship to the uk, the total was just over $48 with shipping. I paid with PayPal and because the £ is so weak at the moment it came to just under £39.

U.S. to U.K. Power adapters are available on eBay for a couple of pounds.

      What was the shipping option?

    • Exterminator

      July 18th, 2017 - 9:18pm

It’s UPS (united parcel service so may have to pay import tax before delivery) the options were:

      UPS Expedited $18.29 6-10 days
UPS Express Saver $18.97 4-6 days

Plus weirdly the more expensive Economy at $27.72 which I think was something like 20days.

    • Moodbeam

      July 18th, 2017 - 9:52pm

I might have to order one next week provided they’re still in stock. I assume that this won’t be a limited run and that they’ll keep having them in stock (I understand that there may be times where they are waiting for deliveries)? Also, what do you think the likely import charges will be? I’m so very tempted by this but I’ve never ordered from abroad before.

    • booboo

      July 18th, 2017 - 9:58pm

import charges are 20% of the total price including post them £8 Royal mail / Ups handling charge

this is something the GOV need to look at because paying vat is one thing but the totally disproportionate handing charge is another.

Lamp and shipping Think Geek £39
U.S. to U.K. voltage ‘step down’ power converter from eBay £9

they would have been sent it, they used an adaptor which you can buy for the voltage difference

A UK seller would not be able to sell it without a fitted UK plug and the CE mark to show it conforms to safety requirements.

” Not at this time. Only offered in North American territories. There are some retailers who will ship to the UK, however. WibbilyWobblyTimeyWimey.com, for instance. Thanks for your interest in the TARDIS Console Lamp!”

the problem is it would have to have a UK plug fitted and the CE safety mark and re packaged accordingly to retail it in this country so it needs a UK distributor to take that on i don’t see it happening

I wonder if they’ve ever considered using a (greenscreened in) version of this time rotor for the TV series (or fan films)? It’d reinforce the concept that the Tardis is as much a living thing as it is a mechanism…

I asked the manufacturer on Facebook if they’re planning any other colours for the lava lamp, they replied that they did some research and orange came out top followed by purple which they’re also considering at some point in the future.

    I requested a red lamp.

All this needs is a raised floor, some roundel walls and door and you’ve got yourself a cool retro looking classic console room for figures. Why couldn’t Character Options do something like this!!!!

True but this is just crying out to be customised, I can’t wait to see what people do with these lamps when they get them.

I wonder if this would fit into the 9th/10th Dr’s Tardis play set in place of the console from that set? It would be cool if the floor panels fitted around this lamp.

    • The Living Shadow

      April 19th, 2017 - 11:59pm

The plastic console panel is aprox 3 3/4 ” high at the edge. 8 inches wide across square and 10 inches across point to point. My store just got them in.

    April 18th, 2017 - 9:59pm

At 4:34 in the video it can be seen with a figure next to it. Is that one of the 3.5″ figures? Looks too small to be a 5.5″ figure. If it’s on of the smaller line figures, then the 5.5″ figures should look awesome next to this. Might get one just to strip out the center of it and try to turn it into a legit toy console with time rotor and everything. Even if you just made a mold of the console itself, it would be a great starting point for a custom TARDIS console!

That’s definitely a 5.5″ figure, they don’t make a 3.75″ figure of that variant. It’s a little too big but I bet it’d look ace when painted properly

its because the businesses making many items you see are USA based and no distributor in the UK wants to take this stuff on, at least at the moment.

I thought so. I’ll cross it off my purchase list now then. It will probably cost about £40 from the US either on ebay or Amazon. Add the Shipping cost will be another £30-40 plus the Import Fee/Surcharge & you will be looking at £90-100 sadly. Great product, but just sorry I won’t be buying it.

It sorta is though. If you raised the figures up to around the start of the rotor (the small bit of it under the rotor), then it sorta works as a 5.5 Tardis console from what I saw of it on the fan show.

Saw this on the Fan show. It seems to be roughly in scale with the 5.5 if you raise the Floor level a bit (place the figures higher up). Even without that cross compatibility it still is a great idea for a product.
