Booboo, I was wondering if you would be able to tell me why Character are unable to make Movie Dalek figures. I know it’s all about ownership, but I am really interested in the details.

the movies (Daleks and Characters) belong to studio canal and not the BBC, therefore the BBC doctor who license which Character has does not cover them, Character would have to get a new license from studio canal to make movie Daleks “proper”. The costs involved for such a small range of potential products may prove unviable.

Ive got a question for anyone whos done the escape room “a dalek awakens”, im just curious to know if there are any references to time lord victorious because the escape room is part of it but seeing as it opened a few months earlier before they even announced time lord victorious was there any point to include it

Booboo why do CO never bring out consistent figures? – this year is an exception granted because of the pandemic, but when they bring out these one off figures people seem to buy them
The 8th doctor from Night of the doctor sold out so quickly as an example, they could literally release variants of figures, e.g the twelfth doctor with red hoodie from smile or even with the black coat from the lie of the land, the tenth doctor from tooth and claw / utopia with the darker shirt or even the one from the shakesp code without the long coat
Not to say those are the only examples, just ones that came to mind, I’m sure there’s far more variants and not even just doctors

this year would have been planned long before covid was an issue all of this would have happened regardless i’m sure.

Back then in the 8th Doctor days they were co funded by Underground toys who had the then much wider USA market and C had an exclusive arrangement with toys r us so very little risk.

some figures just do well others not. That doesn’t mean they would do well again.

CO have tried this before with Missy with the same expectations, people had high hopes back then but it did not appear to work.

It wouldn’t surprise me if they are planned next but it could just be a case of a non-story. Papers often look at sites for info and considering the number of fans talking about these two stories being next the paper could just running a filler story. I’m fairly sure they will be next (baring unforseen circumstances) but I imagine it will be a while before we get an announcement

Though they might be different enough from the original prop to be included, especially the silver one being a cross between the 2 props having the 2nd film colours on the 1st film prop. Also a pupil is included on both as well.

Though considering a lot of people either forgotten or don’t know about them, like you said, would there be a demand.

    • prototype dalek

      August 27th, 2020 - 9:52am

Ah well that’s the question. Only way it would work is if they did between 1,000 – 2,000 to keep unsold sets to a minimum, which of course would increase the price a lot as well from the limited number.

Eaglemoss would probably be the more likely of the 2 to do that kind of venture.

    • Button

      August 27th, 2020 - 5:16pm

Recreating those Daleks in figure form should be easy as I assume they have all the parts needed, all that they would really need to do is make new headlights to match the ones seen in the film. A really neat idea they could do is produce a collection featuring Daleks that have not appeared in official Doctor Who material like the two Daleks from Red Dwarf and the red Dalek from that Ice lolly advert or even some of the Daleks from the Comic Relief episode. I could see those kind of figures being highly sought after, though that would depend if enough people were aware of their other appearances. Not to mention the legal hoops Character would have to jump though.

Like Booboo has said Daleks sell, but would these Daleks sell?

Maybe as a 2 pack 2 bronze daleks because weirdly enough there hasn’t been many released of just a plain bronze dalek, I think one with series 1 and 1 with series 3 but both of them were exclusives and very rare, the dalek progenitor guardian wasn’t the easiest to find either

    B) Dr Who Sonic Screwdriver Universal Remote Control on a stand
I’m looking for how much they are worth, and the big question why is my call box so different from the original collectors edition?

On the sonic it depends if its the 10th or 11th

10th seems to average around £200, the 11th around £100 but it varies widely, you can search ebay completed listing for an idea.

      one word selfishness

    • Anonymous

      August 25th, 2020 - 10:47pm

There is absolutely selfishness, and it certainly isn’t the collectors that are the selfish ones.

To most film collectors, Doctor Who (if they are even aware what it is) is an old television show from the 60s. They really could not care less about it. Feature films are generally the big commodity among collectors, so if somebody has picked up an old episode of Doctor Who it really isn’t important to them at all. It sits on a shelf somewhere, and sure the BBC gets in touch with them but are they really going to check?

The other thing to note is after the Bob Monkhouse trial a lot of UK based collectors went underground, if a rights holder gets in touch demanding to know what films of their properties you have, you simply deny having them. Last thing you want are the cops turning up, carting that collection you spent decades building up and then half of it going missing even if you are cleared. It should be noted they are doing nothing illegal, but even several decades on these collectors are quite rightly worried about the damage a film studio or television broadcaster might do if they start demanding films.

However, there is another group. Fan collectors, who acquired episodes back in the 80s and held on to them for whatever reason, maybe it was nice having some unique piece of Doctor Who history in their collection? Then word got out that there were evil hoarders holding old episodes, they’ve seen how the fans turned on Ian Levine when it turned out he had held back unique episodes for “negotiation purposes”. Of course they don’t want to hand them back, imagine if you’d been sitting on a missing episode for 40 years, you want to admit to doing that? The fanbase would tear you limb from limb.

Simply put, what may once have been argued as “selfish” has now become “fearful”. There were people who sent Russel T Davies death threats in 2005 because they didn’t like the fact the words “Doctor Who” in the orange logo were on a single line, imagine what they would do if they discovered you held a missing episode in today’s internet age.

    • Jordan9364

      August 25th, 2020 - 11:26pm

Surely if someone let slip who it was to the BBC, they would have the right to just turn up and take it since it’s rightfully theirs. Just to make a copy of course

    • Anonymous

      August 26th, 2020 - 1:11am

Doesn’t work that way. If they are in the hands of a private collector that collector has control. The BBC have no legal right to demand the originals or a copy. There is a line in city of death that sums it up perfectly. On being asked why would people buy a painting they can never reveal they own, the character of duggan states it will be an expensive gloat. And that’s exactly what the situation is with missing episodes. It’s a gloat. I have this and no one else can see it. Sad but unfortunately the way things are.

    • the ergon

      August 26th, 2020 - 10:36am

I have no sympathy for the BBC. It was their naivety and lack of foresight. I would say why always turn on the collector. They acquired these items legitimately after the BBC were so willing to give up or destroy this potential, valuable commodity.
I would say the collector also should have protective rights and allowed remuneration. After all they have held onto them protectively all this time. It can be a gloat to some collectors who are reticent and unwilling to part with them but at the end of the day whos fault is that?.
If they could strike some sort of deal where the collector able to keep the original film and recieve a one off agreed payment without fear of litigation i,m sure some if not all might come forward. Its the intimidation that is bound to put them off

    • Anonymous

      August 26th, 2020 - 1:35pm

Ergon no TV company kept their programmes. There was no home buying market until the 1980’s so there was no requirement to keep everything. It’s only shortsightedness in hindsight.

    • the ergon

      August 26th, 2020 - 2:10pm

Foresight, hindsight. i know they were pushed for space but it was naive surely back in the day to think there would be no interest at all in these programmes someday. If they thought that, at least they could have auctioned off unwanted programmes even then to private collectors etc.., even the stuff that was returned to the archives that at that time when their might not have been much interest.

    • booboo

      August 26th, 2020 - 2:16pm

Weren’t there rights / repeat issues as well back then though, not to mention the legal implications of selling on to a 3rd party.

There are so many things that happened in the past that would not have happened with the benefit of hind site.

    • Anonymous

      August 26th, 2020 - 4:34pm

Certainly in the 50’s and 60’s and into most of the 70’s repeat clearances were very complicated as all actors had to be negotiated with in order to clear repeats. That, along with the view that TV was ephemeral, added to the expense of video tape and storage cost meant most programmes were a once only showing. Very few repeats were done at the time. It was never even considered that in the future people would actually pay money to own copies of these programmes. There are huge numbers of films from the major studios made in the first half of the 20th century that no longer exist. The BBC just did what all companies did.

    • the ergon

      August 26th, 2020 - 4:38pm

All i,m saying is if the BBC want something back now wouldn,t it be easier to compromise. If these people were to relinquish these episodes they need an incentive to due so. If not, a once outright payment, perhaps a small percentage of repeat sales and acknowledgement. What once was there property in a sense isn,t. Its petulant to want something back this way even if it is a BBC product. I,m not clued up on all the copyright and legal implications but the way things stand its hardly going to persuade them to give up something as priceless if there is nothing in it for them except altruism.

Some people on twitter saying 7 missing episodes have been found. If this is true, this is really exciting news

They probably exist, who’s got them and if they will ever return them is anyone’s guess. more wrong assumptions from an article written a while ago i think

It’s a new article trying to present old information as new. There’s at least nine missing episodes that are known to still exist, the seven being referred to are ones identified by Phillip Morris, but they are being held by private collectors.

We do not know what they are, they are not coming back any time soon, and the collectors are not evil monsters that kick puppies in their spare time just because they don’t care about an old sci-fi show from the 60s (well The Web of Fear Episode 3 is probably a malicious fan, but that’s a very different case). They are known, they are secure and they are safe, that makes them a low priority compared to any other potential case.

Here I’ve fixed it for you:

Booboo I know this will get caught in the filter, please just outright ban all missing episode discussion going forward.

As has been explained by those actually looking for the episodes, the fan collectors will not return their copies because they are fearful of fan backlash and witch hunts. These commentors are absolutely proving their point correct and if this kind of stuff is allowed to float around or is encouraged we may never see these episodes returned. I have attempted to explain the situation civily but this is getting out of hand.

They may have good intentions but this is starting to get into dangerous territory. I’m seeing one user above Jordan9364 who is actively demanding the BBC send people to break into these people’s houses and steal what is legally the collector’s property. That’s downright criminal behaviour.

Please just ban the topic from discussion. While it is an incredibly slim chance these random individuals will stumble on this site on the right day to see these comments, that could be all it takes to stop us ever seeing these episodes.

    • booboo

      August 26th, 2020 - 9:32am

its not possible blanket banning anything , especially when many of the comments were left very late or the middle of the night, anything left after 9.00pm generally wont be seen buy me until the morning.

Peoples viewpoints have been fuelled by high profile people saying they know some exist with collectors and ill conceived articles published elsewhere.

What goes on here pales into insignificance to other platforms and i dont see anyone shutting those down.

I’m sure all He mean was if the BBC knew who had them why don’t they go and ask for them, even if its just to make a copy, he’s not demanding they go and kick the door down.

I’d like to ask collectors what their most favourite figurine of the DW collection has been, and why that one in particular?

Mine was the Third Doctor from The Green Death because I thought the likeness was excellent and his posture was spot on. However, I also want to make special mention of the Omega figurine from Arc of Infinity which is probably my favourite costume design from the classic show and the figurine itself was painted and sculpted so wonderfully – I remember really looking forward to getting this figurine in the post. Both are currently on display on my bedside table! Generally though I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve looked forward to receiving a figurine through the post – there have been so many good ones produced. Thanks to the EM team.

The metallic blue Strategist Dalek is a personal favourite of mine, so getting a special figurine of that was great. I also love any big chunky monsters, such as the Zarbi, Gell Guard and Mandrell which are excellently done to fit into the main range.

Question – is the Eighth Doctor in the first eaglemoss Big Finish set identical to his TV Movie appearance, or are there any differances?

Same. Only know coz I bought set for Dalek then sold the others. Then realised we only have ‘Night of the Doctor’ version in the main range.

    • Basil Funkenstein

      August 24th, 2020 - 12:07am

He’s pretty much identical. There are a few incredibly subtle, tiny differences that aren’t noticeable unless you’re looking for them, but in outfit and appearance the figurine represents the TV movie really well. Apart from the disappointing paint app I actually think it’s a very good figurine. Hope that info helps.

I got that impression with your post that starts with, bear in mind you are someone who represents Eaglemoss

“Please don’t be sad at the thought of the collection ending at #200, be happy that we’ll have made it to #200.”

That seems to imply its coming to an end otherwise why say it.

    • booboo

      August 23rd, 2020 - 6:18pm

      That was a follow up,

      and quote:

If the last issue is #200, we’d like to do the Watcher, just because it feels sort of appropriate. That’s the plan, however, and plans change.

I doubt the decision to end at 200 (although probable) is 100% set in stone right at this moment .

    • Anonymous

      August 23rd, 2020 - 6:12pm

The collection will no longer be available in general newsagents from 180 but I suppose that doesn’t mean it’s going to end at 200. They may just make it subscribers and specialist shops only. As long as they have enough orders to validate making new figures they may continue to do so. Perhaps it’s best to stop speculating and just wait for an announcement?

    • booboo

      August 23rd, 2020 - 6:55pm

You are asking Doctor Who collectors not to speculate?

That’s like asking grass not to grow

    • Alvin

      August 23rd, 2020 - 7:55pm

I’ve reread this thread and I now see that Neil was replying to Anonymous’s post about being sad IF the collection ends at 200 when he said “”Please don’t be sad at the thought of the collection ending at #200, be happy that we’ll have made it to #200”

It’s this comment that got us fans worried about the collection ending, which wasn’t what Neil intended, he was just trying to make Anonymous feel better.

I read on another site that the collection was ending so I made my comment about the collection ending

Now I know there has been confusion regarding the ending I made a post on the FB Eaglemoss Doctor Who Figurine group clarifying how the confusion started and that Neil DID NOT state the collection was ending, it was the usual internet ‘wires crossed’ malarkey.

I’m sure when the collection does end that Eaglemoss will let subscribers/collectors know officially rather than let us hear third hand.

Sorry boo boo it was mad to say stop speculating!

    • Neil Corry

      August 23rd, 2020 - 11:51pm

I love the speculating. I’ve even been inspired by some of it. But things I post are misconstrued.

The latest news about the DWFC no longer being sold in shops from #180 with notification of the magazine’s extension to 200 issues has led to speculation the magazine will end.

Please speculate away about the magazine’s future. Can’t stop you and wouldn’t want to ever stop you. I wrote what I did to thank everyone who’s helped make it a success so far – you.

Now, If you would excuse me, I must get back to working on this 12” Rill…

      August 24th, 2020 - 9:05am

Well if it does end then it’ll be certainly a big milestone not many collections make.

But at least if does end i’ll certainly be able to save up a lot more money, as I’ve been a subscriber since issue 1 all the way back in 2013.

Be good to look at the other releases within the collection, been mostly focused on the main range as well as picking up the big finish set’s and the bonus figures.

Loved the variety of the Dalek’s released Neil, own just over 50 of them with no space for anymore, but hasn’t stopped me before 😉

    • Jordan9364

      August 24th, 2020 - 8:49pm

Neil, would it be possible to release the remaining two Paradigm Daleks (red and blue) as bonus issues (like the gold supreme / silver invasion dalek a while back)? As I know people may have issues with them being in the main line. I love the ones released so far and the complete collection would be amazing! (The damaged Supreme from “Wedding of River Song” would top this off wonderfully – but that’s asking too much )

    • Doctor Stu

      August 24th, 2020 - 10:40pm

We have the full paradigm, We have red and blue, and yellow and orange and white

    • Jordan9364

      August 25th, 2020 - 2:18pm

I think TheMindRobber mentioned before on Twitter that it isn’t the complete Paradigm yet, as the red and blue are the much darker variants from “Asylum”

    • Basil Funkenstein

      August 25th, 2020 - 3:34pm

Don’t forget that the metallic blue paradigm strategist was a premium subscriber rare Dalek so if you had a classic subscription your paradigm collection would be incomplete. I would also like the red and blue victory paradigms to complete the collection and a battle-damaged white supreme from wedding of River Song.

Although the collections ending I hope eaglemoss will continue doing online exclusives like they are with the Star Trek Starship collection.

I definitely didn’t think we’d still be here now with 180 coming next. And although you can’t please everyone we have gotten figurines of things we would never have got under Character Options.

      And I love Daleks…
So many Daleks and at least 3 more.

I still want the Remembrance Shuttlecraft and The Great Healer as specials too if they are a possibility.

Didn’t mean that either Neil, just that some fans are a little… vocal at times if they don’t think a figure should have been done. The basic fact is it’s a tremendous achievement for any figure collection to reach 180 so well done and much luck in the future.

      I suspect it will, but…

Distribution to shops with much lower footfall and non existent sales for a few months because they were shut will have impacted sales whilst leading to increase costs, i have no doubt of that.

If enough people sign up and existing subscribers stay on board that might actually lead to more chance of it being extended because its guaranteed sales as opposed to guess work in the current climate.

Some people seem to think all these Doctor Who franchises are somehow immune to the effects of covid and can just carry on as normal.

    • Anonymous

      August 21st, 2020 - 8:08pm

Boo boo is right. The impact of covid on manufacturing (such as doctor who merchandise) is higher than most people think. I really hope fans get behind them and support them. Footfall in shops is still down so if they can manufacture a smaller amount for a known subscription base, with a percentage increase for sale in specialist shops it will save them money. I wish them luck.

Please don’t be sad at the thought of the collection ending at #200, be happy that we’ll have made it to #200.

We started the collection because of the the 21st-century series’ success, and I have properly lost count of the total.
