Their journey takes them into the dark, undiscovered depths of the universe and to the planet of Skaro, a primitive world devastated by nuclear war and populated by two warring species, a peaceful tribe known as Thals and a life form heavily mutated by radiation, encased in protective machines, merciless force of destruction known as The Daleks!

July 1st, 2022 - 2:32pmWhat can I say but, WOW, I first saw these on a Bank Holiday Weekend on Channel 4, and this was my first introduction to the Daleks in a complete way (having seen snippets of ‘Remembrance’ on Video), and became firm favourites for me for many years, and then I forgot about them. When these were announced i felt it was time to revisit the Daleks cinematic takeovers and see if the new restorations are worth it… and this 4K restoration is Incredible… and when you see the Restoration documentary for the 4K remasters, you will appreciate more how painstakingly beautiful it is to have these almost as a preserved slice of 1960s filmmaking. Peter Cushing is absolutely wonderful as Dr. Who, who is more whimsical than his television counterpart at the time. And the support Cast make this stand out.
This is why my childhood was awesome.
Can’t wait to see DALEKS: INVASION EARTH 2150 ad in 4K on 18th July when the Collector’s Edition of that gets delivered

June 19th, 2022 - 9:46amWhen I was at my local Odeon cinema a week or so back they had a poster promoting these and on it it said also at Cinemas. I know that Odeon have been showing older classic movies recently restored etc. but are these going on more general release or just odd specialist screenings?

June 19th, 2022 - 4:47amNot this too… That isn’t Cudhings TARDIS, it’s a 2005 TARDIS with the St. John’s Ambulance sticker. I know I’m being pedantic but I’m getting really sick of companies making money from Doctor Who and phoning it in.

June 19th, 2022 - 9:02amTo be fair I think we’ve been spoilt by lees fantastic bluray collection covers and designs, they really do hit the right notes with us fans, then these come out and fall short of his standards and attention to detail.
I personally find these covers quite fun, as i do the movies.

June 19th, 2022 - 10:36amThe BBC own the copyright to the Police Box, might be something to do with that, there is usually something behind these things.

June 19th, 2022 - 4:40pmSurely, if the BBC owns the copyright to the 2005 Tardis, then it wouldn’t be on a Studio Canal release. It would be the proper film version Tardis which I assume Studio Canal owns the copyright.
booboo
June 19th, 2022 - 5:34pmThat’s the point, BBC own the copyright to the “Police Box”, regardless of which version, so Studio Canal would have most likely have to ask the BBC to use an image of a police Box on any artwork and they might has insisted it was that version.
That might not be the case but things are not a clear cut as people think sometimes

June 20th, 2022 - 9:06pm“In 1996, the BBC applied for a trademark to use the blue police box design in merchandising associated with Doctor Who. In 1998, the Metropolitan Police filed an objection to the trademark claim, maintaining that they owned the rights to the police box image.” Basically the BBC have the right to have the right to use the Image of their TARDIS and (if I recall correctly) the windows and design of the 2010-2017 TARDIS police box, Steven Moffat wanted it to be more in line with the Cushing Films.

June 18th, 2022 - 4:28pmMine arrived today. Really happy with the presentation. Definitely glad I went for this over the (new) steelbook.
What’s not clear from the photos is that the cover is actually shiny kind of like a Pokemon card which does detract my previous fears of it looking cartoony.

May 6th, 2022 - 5:41amBooboo: I’ve read that it is 5 artcards in online blurbs, but the picture only shows 4? Do we know if it is 4 or 5 cards?
booboo
May 6th, 2022 - 9:01amhonestly don’t know, the official press release does state 5 cards but like you say only 4 are shown although i suppose one not seen could be the packaging artwork

April 13th, 2022 - 10:19pmBoth of these look great. Loving the art cards and poster. I am hoping the price for the collector’s edition might yet drop a wee bit though!
The more comic strip style of the covers is very striking but I do wish they had found a way to use the gorgeous painted art that was used on the original ‘big box’ VHS releases. Both of them were every bit as good as the original 60s poster art.
At least the art from the first film has been used for the forthcoming making of book.

April 13th, 2022 - 1:18pmIs there no standard Blu-ray of this new restoration?
Sea devils are they
April 13th, 2022 - 3:55pmMy question is dose it come with the blu ray as well as the 4k disc

April 13th, 2022 - 6:31pmA pity. £50 is a bit steep for one film with terrible artwork. It’s especially terrible when you compare it to the original theatrical posters which are amazing – especially 2150 AD.

April 13th, 2022 - 11:25amAh good point both of you

April 13th, 2022 - 12:20pmDalekAgent, what I do also is buy Amazon gift vouchers and knock it off the total, and by the time they come out are mostly or fully paid off. Takes the sting out of the full price all at once!
