Old legends and new worlds collide in this magnificent Doctor Who crossover with King Arthur and His Knights of the Round Table.

While investigating a strange energy in Carbury, the Tenth Doctor and Donna Noble are pulled into a different dimension, smashing a giant hole into another world in the process.

As the magic of the hidden dimension slowly seeps out, the Doctor and Donna find themselves in Camelot, where a young squire, Arthur, comes to their aid, and when the Doctor is mistaken for Merlin, they are swept up in the glamorous and daring legends of the Knights of the Round Table.

But something far more menacing has been awakened. Caught in an ancient battle for power, Donna and the Doctor are sucked into a dangerous game. As each move is made and time spins faster, the Doctor must find a way to seal the rift before an unimaginable power is unleashed and the universe is laid to waste.

Anything with Donna is good although no author has been able to write Donna screen accurately so her lines are always jarring in books. Let’s hope this isn’t the case this time around

The thing people need to remember is that as doctor who fans, we love the nostalgia element of the show. The fact that past doctors, in this case the 10th, are being used a lot is purely because a whole generation of fans who grew up with that doctor are now at the age where they are entering the world of work and have disposable income. Companies will always attempt to make money off of what the figures show will sell and david Tennant is hot property. One of big finish’s most popular releases last year was out of time 1 which had david and tom baker and we all know how much david is releasing with big finish this year, including a torchwood crossover. I for one grew up with david so am one of the target audience for these releases and will admit, the big finish stuff and Christopher eccleston releases are very exciting. I’m less interested in the books or comics but for many fans, they will have the reverse interest to me. Like boohoo said, you find a niche market who are interested in a specific product or character and you’ve got a gold mine (the dalek set being a prime example of this). Sadly, there just isn’t the market like there used to be for new ranges etc so companies will always look to the most popular elements of the back catalogue. We shouldn’t complain if we dont like it as they will likely reach the era that you like at some point but to be able to do that, they need to know they have the financial blanket to “risk” less popular eras or doctors or monsters. Look at how eaglemoss started with the most popular characters and now that they have a core demographic of fans who will buy the more obscure figures, they are able to produce some items like the celestial toymaker or tegan nyssa and Adric that many of us never thought would be possible. Theres always more to the situation than one item. Please just try and think of the broader market before complaining about one specific release or focus.

I’m not to overly criticise Dr Who but even I think there’s been a bit too much reliance on 10 while 13 is still the current incumbent. Even TL:V was mostly about him. 13’s comic seems to have him all time time, and now a new book. I appreciate they are relying on Tennant’s popularity, but it’s not even REALLY him, is it?

its all about market research and what’s actually likely to sell in enough quantity to make it viable.

Yeah agreed booboo. Though it’s a little sad as it’s been over 10 years since he left!

The most successful 5″ figure in years is around 55 years old and appeared for a few seconds, its all about markets in particular fields.

Jungles of Mechanus Dalek Set, 56 years old in broadcast time, a few seconds on screen, 5000 units sold out in less than 3 weeks

to be fair, it sold becausse it was a movie dalek, the loop hole meant that the reason we could make it was a few seconds

yes but i was was comparing on screen dates and markets, in other words it doesn’t matter how long something hasn’t been on the TV, it can still prove popular today.

Correct, Movie Dalek, appears in the background, 5000 copies sold and circulating on eBay.
      While:
Grandma Conolly, appears for a good chunk of Idiot’s Lantern, figure is pointless,
Hoix, cool figure, but appears in 1 scene at time of release,
      Destroyed Cassandra… oh…

      I couldn’t agree more!

Neil has reminded me of the way people complained back in those ancient times of no who on the steam powered gogglebox and only a regular addition of those paperbacks to keep us going. I remember bitter complaints about there being to any of this doctor or that companion and not enough of another. Funny how things change (different doctors) whilst staying exactly the same…

It’s funny but if they are using a different doctor to the current one, and I wouldn’t have minded if they had used Jodie in this, then why not use a doctor who hasn’t had a book for some time, such as the first, fifth, sixth or eighth? I don’t mind ten but he’s really not my favourite.

    • Doctor Stu

      January 27th, 2021 - 7:38pm

He’s the nations favourite though, probably the worlds favourite so he’s just guaranteed to sell well. Although I’ve also been critical about all this new Tennant merch filling the one year gap between journeys end and end of time as it dilutes Tennants tragic regeneration. The whole point is that he barely lived at all as Ten and did so little and lost so much in that small time.
