matt-rt-coverRadio Times Matt Smith’s Farewell Cover

Daleks, Matt Smith’s farewell and interactive Doctor Who content in the new issue of Radio Times Magazine

Unlock an exclusive message from Matt Smith and behind-the-scenes footage of our Doctor Who shoot

It’s mere weeks until Matt Smith bids a fond farewell to Doctor Who but we couldn’t let him go without one final hurrah – and a Radio Times cover, of course. This week’s magazine marks Matt’s 13th appearance on the cover as the Doctor, matching the record held by his predecessor, David Tennant. And just in time for the arrival of the 13th Doctor. Neat, eh? And there are plenty more Doctor Who treats in store this week. For those of you who enjoyed our exclusive message from Matt Smith to celebrate the Doctor’s 50th birthday, we’ve got another from the doors of the Tardis plus a sneak peek behind the scenes on our cover shoot.

Download the Blippar app and point your phone at the magazine to unlock all the exclusive content, including a gallery of all 13 of Matt Smith’s Radio Times Doctor Who covers and a complete episode guide to all the 11th Doctor’s adventures

As if that wasn’t enough, we’ve got Matt Smith’s final interview reflecting on his last days as the Time Lord and revealing his Hollywood hipster ambitions. One man who predicts a long and successful career for Smith is Steven Moffat who praises his lead Doctor Who actor – along with his Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch – for their wise career choices.

With Christmas approaching the on-sale date of this issue has been brought forward to tomorrow, Saturday 30 November 2013

Bit of a dull cover for such an important episode. I would have preferred the bbc’s official promotional image as the cover, much more exciting. I will be sad to see matt leave but am really looking forward to seeing peter capaldi take over.

    • A New Dalek Paradigm

      November 30th, 2013 - 8:54pm

I’d love to see the Paradigm used as the main Daleks in Time of the Doctor but I fear if they are included they’ll probably be kept in the back ground like they were in Asylum with the god awful RTD Daleks taking centre stage once again. Still, at least we got to see some of the Paradigm in The Five(ish) Doctors.

      November 30th, 2013 - 11:27pm

The rtd daleks r 8 years old now its time for the new daleks to take ther rightful place as the DALEKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Dalek the Supreme

      December 1st, 2013 - 4:59pm

The Paradigm Daleks are still Daleks, and still underused. We still don’t know what the weapon in their rear hatch is, and we to this day have no idea what the Eternal Dalek does. I’d like to see these mysteries shown, and with the big battle we should expect to see in this year’s Christmas special, it would be the perfect opportunity to solve these mysteries, and show the New Paradigm in proper action for the first time since their debut season.

    • A New Dalek Paradigm

      December 1st, 2013 - 7:40pm

Well said but since the back lash against them the production team have been running scared so unfortunately I doubt we’ll see the Paradigm do any of the things they’d originally been designed to do. I’ll happily be proved wrong though.

I have given up trying to work that one out. Taking into consideration The Watcher, The Valeyard and John Hurt I’ve decided that whichever one he is I’m just glad that he’s still around. It also shows that the BBC is still committed to the programme by giving it the Christmas cover. The Doctor is dead, long live The Doctor!

At the end of ‘the day of the Doctor’ we find out that they would forget what happened that day so they would still try and forget about the John Hurt Doctor so I think Capaldi will be 12th but it will be the Doctor’s 13th body

In an interview Moffat said “Including the Metacrisis and Hurt, he’s used up all his regenerations”. So its 13th Regeneration 13th Body

That was on purpose, seeing as they didn’t prove very popular. There’s talk of another Dalek civil war between the new paradigm Daleks and the Bronze Daleks behind the scenes. (much like in the DW experience with the Daleks firing at one another)

david tennant regenerated twice….in the stolen earth…his hand absorbed it but it does actually count as a regeneration 😀 hope this helps with the confusion

    • TheBritishCupOfTea

      November 29th, 2013 - 11:03pm

Peter Capaldi is the 13th Doctor, but the 14th incarnation since Tennant regenerated twice.
That’s if you count John Hurt as the 9th Doctor.
But he’s officially titled “The War Doctor”, So Peter Capaldi is the 12th Doctor.
      12th Doctor or 13th Doctor, 14th incarnation.

      Blimey.

    • TheWhomobile

      November 30th, 2013 - 7:57am

I understand all the regenerations but I don’t want them to change the numbering. Hurt didn’t take the Doctor’s name so he doesn’t count and 10 used two regenerations but only counts for one Doctor so he will be the 12th. As much as I liked the special I wish Moffat had left this alone.
