An all-star cast brings Doctor Who to ASDA on vinyl with Max Warp

Welcome to Max Warp! Broadcasting live from the Sirius Inter-G Cruiser Show. Hosted by outspoken columnist and media personality Geoffrey Vantage, with spaceship-guru-extraordinaire O’Reilley and daredevil pilot Timbo ‘the Ferret’.Following the sell-out success of Big Finish Productions limited edition Doctor Whoadventure The Creeping Deathon vinyl record in ASDA earlier this year, the audio company has announced another exclusive collaboration and is now bringing the world of Max Warpto ASDA aisles.ASDA will launch Doctor Who: Max Warpstarring Paul McGann and Sheridan Smith on 15 November 2019.

Released as a limited edition of 2,000 on coloured splatter-effect vinyl, Max Warp will also feature brand new artwork and production notes. Please note this product is only available in the UK.When a test flight of the new Kith Sunstorm ends in disaster, the Sirius Exhibition Station is plunged into a web of murder and intrigue. Someone –or something –is trying to re-ignite a war between the Varlon Empire and the Kith Oligarchy. As the fate of the galaxy hangs in the balance, only two investigators, the Doctor and Lucie, can hope to uncover the truth.

So strap yourself in, engage thrust, and prepare for… Max Warp!Paul McGann portrayed the eighth incarnation of the Doctor in the 1996 TV film, Doctor Who:The Movie, returning in 2013 in the TV mini-episode The Night of the Doctor which depicts the Eighth Doctor’s final adventure and his regeneration into the War Doctor (played by John Hurt).

Sheridan Smith made her debut as companion Lucie Miller on audio in the Big Finish adventure, Doctor Who:Blood of the Daleks. Her enduring relationship with the Eighth Doctor continues to this day.Sheridan said: “I’ve got right into vinyl, I’ve just bought a record player so I’m going around vintage shops and buying lots of cool, amazing vinyl. I can’t stop playing it in the house. I’m going to buy it all. Hours of enjoyment!” Doctor Who:Max Warpalso stars British comedian, actor, author, artist and television presenter, Graeme Garden, best known as a member of The Goodiesand for being a cast member on BBC Radio’s I’m Sorry I Haven’t a Clue.

Appearing with him are Duncan James, singer, actor and television presenter, best known as a member of the boy band Blue, and James Fleet, British star of stage and screen best known for his roles in the 1994 British romantic comedy film Four Weddings and a Funeral and as Hugo Horton in the BBC sitcom television series The Vicar of Dibley.“Max Warp is Top Gear in space, and even if you don’t have a detailed knowledge of everything that writer Jonathan Morris is satirising about the show, the audio still works as a standalone tale. Graeme Garden is as much the star of this episode as Paul McGann and Sheridan Smith, and gives a great performance. Audio comedy is still regularly compared to The Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy, and Morris almost encourages this with some neat HHGG references. More like this please!” Sci-Fi Bulletin

Got mine on Wednesday thanks to a doctor who fan. I couldn’t get one in Peterborough so he charged me the cost of the vinyl plus postage. Very kind.

5 left in Bilton (Hull) this afternoon. I don’t live there, so sorry I can’t return and get one for anyone. I did wonder whether to get them all to sell them to whovians here, so we can avoid eBay flippers, but to be honest the other half would shoot me if I got left with them. Could we set up some sort of group to do this in future? I know these shops do exclusives for foot fall, but it seems to be just eBay scalpers who benefit…

Wow! Second time lucky at Asda Chase Side, Southgate (North London). Went in Saturday morning around 8.40am, nothing out on the shelves again, but this time the guy I asked knew exactly what I was talking about, went to the stock room, and came back with one (he said he’d already sold one to someone, so that probably helped with him knowing precisely what I was after). He emerged from the back room with a copy. Super-pleased – whilst I’ve always been lucky with the HMV releases, this is the first time I have ever managed to get one of the supermarket exclusives without having to resort to eBay for about £40 all-in.

Again, no joy at my local Asda this evening, despite being on the list. As with The Creeping Death, none of the staff even had heard about it. But in fairness, this time they did check round the back for me. I’ll try again tomorrow.

Peterborough don’t sell vinyls anymore at all. So although I got the last Asda release from here I won’t be this time. Guess it’s onto ebay for me.

I think this is the most beautiful vinyl yet! Certainly the one with the most thought put into the design, and at least it’s not another Fourth or Tenth Doctor. Also, I don’t mind it being an Asda exclusive, it’s the easiest for me to get to and they’re cheaper there-Creeping Death was only £15!

Because this is an official press release that goes out to a much wider audience than just the Doctor Who fan base (ie vinyl sites, general media and promotional agents).

This post may come up in searches for ASDA, Vinyl LP, Paul McGann , Sheridan Smith etc etc so may be read by people totally unaware of this type of product.

You will have to forgive Big Finish for wanting to tell those people a bit about themselves, believe it or not Doctor Who fans are not the center of the universe.
