Doctor Who Lego Sets – The Designs Roll In

An update on Lego’s Cuusoo design site suggests that Doctor Who Lego sets are now possible.

You can send in designs for Lego sets and if it receives 10,000 votes or more there is possibility it will be considered for release under the Lego brand.

Doctor Who has always been rejected in the past due to licensing issues – until now

We do not know why this has happened and what this means for Character building. Character currently hold the master toy licence for Doctor Who products.

Click Doctor Who lego Designs to see the entries so far.

License Conflicts and Resolutions

Sometimes we have to turn down project submissions that refer to specific brands or licensed properties. We do this to avoid getting your hopes up for something we know we aren’t able to make. In these cases, we already know the LEGO Group can’t secure licensing rights to produce construction toys based on a particular brand or property, due to a conflicting interest with a third party.

If such a conflict goes away, we’ll then be able to accept projects based on a particular brand or license.
The Fine Print:

If your project was previously turned down, archived, or deleted due to a licensing conflict that is now resolved, you may re-submit it as a new project. Supporters from past projects cannot be applied to a future project.
Resolved Past Licensing Conflicts

We now welcome projects based on the following licenses that used to have conflicts:

Love the one at the top! The Tardis is brilliant in that. I like the big 9th/10th Doctor Tardis too, but Lego would be unlikely to make one that size, I believe (although you never know.) I love the second 11th Doctor one too, especially the transparent floor, great building technique for that.

I don’t agree at all, my first thought when I saw them was “they are the best Lego versions of Daleks ever!” They have the right proportions, almost.

That’s said, Lego would likely make new pieces for Daleks.

Guess what? One paticular project has over 8,000 supporters- we’re almost there! However theres still the reviewing process and ugh…. however even if it doesn’t make it LEGO sometimes still consider it for a future release so maybe all hope isnt lost.

P.S. Some guy on Cuusoo was telling a guy how he was a massive fan, then went on to say that ‘An Unearthly Child’ has been lost for years and still is!!!!

I like to hope that they have started taking in Doctor Who entries as the BBC have allowed them to have the Sherlock license – for the Sherlock set that is ‘in review’ right now – and that Doctor Who and Sherlock licenses go together – and therefore allowing a Doctor Who set to become reality.

Of course, I am only hoping that the BBC have given LEGO the Sherlock license, I feel it would be a massive shame if they didn’t!

I am also hopeful for Lego to get the Sherlock license. I’d say the likelihood is that they have as I don’t believe anyone has the Sherlock license yet.

      March 8th, 2014 - 10:55pm

I know Big Chief have produced some 1:6 Scale figures, like they have done with Doctor Who – but I doubt they have the license. So, maybe they have handed the license over to LEGO – I do think they would include the DW license with Sherlock, those two go hand in hand.

    • Anonymous

      March 9th, 2014 - 12:03am

Why would they include Sherlock with Doctor Who? Other than the fact they share a producer/writer there is no connection between the two?

Let’s face it, to get access to Doctor Who you need to sign up for two separate license agreements (one covering 1963-2009 and the other 2010-present) they are not going to have added an entirely different show to it.

Doctor Who and Sherlock have many things in common, but most of them are extremely obscure (Like the end scenes to The Sign of Three/The Green Death).

In sculpt perhaps but not in quality of plastic/detail in printing. Plus Lego can show more than one emotion due to the double sided expression head. You could have a determined look on one side of the doctor then on the other a jovial smile or a look of anger or sadness/surprise. Also Lego make far superior moulded parts for hair and head wear, Just look at the 2013 teenage mutant ninja turtles figures or the general zod man of steel figures.and you’ll see quality unmatched!

I actually like these a lot better than the CB range. LEGO will open up a lot of opportunities for the DW brand if they do go ahead with any of these… they have the money/experience to make a more extensive range, and as others have already mentioned, have video game and other areas of media they could add to the line up.

I imagine Character Options would be furious if LEGO actually did pick up the DW licence – especially if the LEGO products became widely available. I think a lot of children/parents would buy LEGO products over CB.

Well lego makes better, less breakable, and accurate sets. Character building makes better more characteristic figures. But the plastic isn’t very good on them, and the paint ran off my cyber leader cb. Also it would be fun if doctor who character building had games and things. Nevertheless I am existed for Lego but the character options doctor who era seems to be dying.

The set that was winning, “Doctor Who and companions” is now losing and has 1438 supporters. However, another Doctor Who cuusoo set called “Doctor Who” is winning with flying colours with 4521 votes! Fingers crossed for that set to be produced now!

Every time lego bring out a series or set of Lego they often make a game of it (e.g: Batman, MARVEL, Indiana Jones, LEGO Movie etc) so MAYBE if some of these go ahead there could be a LEGO Doctor Who game eventually! (Not likely though)

A game would be brilliant! The Lego games are some of my favourite video games, if not my favourites, and a Doctor Who one would work really well. Just think of all the characters you could play as, or the different abilities each could have!

Love that Idea! When you respawn you could regenerate!! They could get the actors to voice the characters and make up a story maybe where capaldi’s doctor meets up with some of the previous doctors. It could be a Lego made story like they did with Lego batman 2 and Lego Marvel superheroes. They could use archive sound clips for doctors 1-3 and the rest could voice their respective doctors. maybe rather than just respawning every time you loose a heart you regenerate and when you’ve used all 13 you regenerate!
