Doctor Who: Engines of War Synopsis

Available to order in the UK from www.amazon.co.uk

“The death of billions is as nothing to us Doctor, if it helps defeat the Daleks.”

The Great Time War has raged for centuries, ravaging the universe. Scores of human colony planets are now overrun by Dalek occupation forces. A weary, angry Doctor leads a flotilla of Battle TARDISes against the Dalek stronghold but in the midst of the carnage, the Doctor’s TARDIS crashes to a planet below: Moldox.

As the Doctor is trapped in an apocalyptic landscape, Dalek patrols roam amongst the wreckage, rounding up the remaining civilians. But why haven’t the Daleks simply killed the humans?

Searching for answers the Doctor meets ‘Cinder’, a young Dalek hunter. Their struggles to discover the Dalek plan take them from the ruins of Moldox to the halls of Gallifrey, and set in motion a chain of events that will change everything. And everyone.

An epic novel of the Great Time War featuring the War Doctor as played by John Hurt.

Anybody notice the item the text ‘Engines of War’ is on is just a filled version of the 10th’s and 9th’s Logo. The circles added are the faint red an orange ones that can be seen!

Quite cool actually, because this links the new series to this, and the 8th Doctor links this to the classic series. John Hurt really does fill in a massive gap, and really makes Classic and new Who combine. This makes it just simply Doctor Who, and the 9 year gap is filled by countless stretches of our imagination.

A lot of people are saying that the New Special-Weapons Dalek is ‘badly Photoshopped’.

Believe me, it isn’t. Not only does it look cool, but it looks real. A Photoshopped image will always be noticeably Photoshopped, however the Dalek abovw is not anywhere near ‘badly’ Photoshopped.

Maybe it’s because I’m a fan of Binding’s work, or because I do graphics design myself, but I think it looks great.

      Totally agree

its the Special weapons Dalek gun bolted onto a Bronze Dalek, there isn’t much else he could have done and their not going to commission a re design for one book cover

I think he did a grand job. As you said, there is only so much he could do, and it’s not as if they’re going to create a whole new model specifically for this one book cover.

And thanks Oscar – its not of my own creation, though. I still need to get round to creating one by myself that’s similar!

Looks to me like they are both the same dalek? And that is not badly photoshopped. It is very good and I think that it goes well with the bronze dalek design.

What they could have done is the Minecraft Ender Special Weapons Dalek.

a fantastic idea! i really want to read this as i really want to see when the (very badly photoshopped) weapon dalek comes into the story. who likes the paradigm daleks? ❓ they don’t crop up anymore and i really like them! (but my favourite is the special weapons dalek – i wish they hadn’t done that badly photoshopped dalek!!!)

You could argue that the ‘badly photoshopped’ weapon shows just how much they wanted to win the time war because if it looks badly made or odd, they would have done it in a rush to get them out there and fight, I’m sure the Daleks aren’t bothered how badly put together it looks, so long as it fights.
But I’m just trying to cover over the designers mistakes, it doesn’t look too good but still exciting!

not much, in Rose he very much came across that it had very recently happened (when he looked in the mirror)

    • Barry Scott

      May 7th, 2014 - 6:21pm

But, Clive showed Rose pictures of him at JFK’s assassination and the launch of the Titanic.

    • Trenzalore

      May 7th, 2014 - 6:24pm

That could be from 9’s future adventures…
But yeah that always confused me too 😆 and being from his future is the only plausible explanation.

    • Some bloke

      May 7th, 2014 - 6:28pm

yes well those photos could have all been taken on adventures he HAD with rose, only rose was never in the pictures. She would have been off doing whatever she liked during the kennedy assassination and the sinking of the titanic. Yeah

    • Some bloke

      May 7th, 2014 - 6:31pm

@Trenzalore there was never a point where the ninth doctor WASN’T with rose after the episode ‘Rose’ so we should assume that she travelled with him constantly until ‘The Parting of the Ways’ so she would have been with him on those advenures. And if he had only just seen his new face in ‘Rose’ then we can assume he hasn’t had a lot of time in his new body since regenerating. If he had, then he would have seen it in a reflection or something 🙂

    • Trenzalore

      May 7th, 2014 - 6:31pm

She was probably getting a book at the time…

    • Some bloke

      May 7th, 2014 - 6:35pm

or she was the one who assassinated kennedy, while the doctor stood at the side making sure everything went to plan. Perhaps kennedy was an alien or something…

watch the day to rose on you tube it is fan made but it is very good.

ps its a figure adventure hope it helps

      May 7th, 2014 - 7:31pm

He had a break from Rose when he disappeared and reappeared in ‘Rose’ at the end when he says “Did I mention, it also travels in time?” so he could have gone on some adventures then in that gap.

    • Trenzalore

      May 7th, 2014 - 7:52pm

I now feel really silly 😆 seems obvious now and I swear I’ve heard that theory before (you reminded me about it).

    • Anonymous

      May 7th, 2014 - 8:46pm

No no no guys in Rose, it’s said when The Doctor dropped Rose and Mickey off and The Doctor asked Rose if she liked to come travelling with him and she said no because she had things to do and so he left them, that is when he had those adventures and then he realized that he doesn’t travel, he can travel back in time! So he comes back 2 secs after he left them and then mentions he can travel through time.

    • skaroman

      May 8th, 2014 - 7:37am

Good explanation. He must’ve gone to the Titanic because he mentioned himself being stuck on an iceberg in ‘The End Of The World’.

    • TARDISGuy

      May 31st, 2014 - 11:40am

I always thought that the adventures seen in Clive’s photos took place between when the Doctor blew up Henrick’s and when he appeared at Rose’s flat

    A DEFINITE MUST BUY !! 🙂

Don’t like the clearly photoshoped Dalek with the Special Weapons Gunner Dalek weapon. I’m against such a design, but it should look unique much like the real Special Weapons Gunner Dalek itself from ‘Remembrance of the Daleks’ and ‘Asylum of the Daleks’ rather then just look like an ordinary Dalek with a totally different weapon.

Aside from that, I can’t wait to read what should be a fantastic novel and prequel to ‘The Day of the Doctor’ from the War Doctors point of view.

on the other hand you are far more likely to see it as a figure (not that you will) this way, a completely new mould would rule it out…
