I’ve had a thought, wouldn’t it be cool if we got a Twice Upon a Time collectors set, similar to The Time of the Doctor collectors set? It could come with 3 Heads. Capaldi head, Whittaker Head and a glowing Capaldi head so it looks like he’s regenerating. Also an interchangeable pair of hands, a plain pair and a glowing pair like the head. It could also come with his sonic screwdriver, and similar to the way the Time of the Doctor worked, it could come with 2 interchangeable torso pieces. One flat chested for Capaldi, and one with boobs for Whittaker.
I think this would be a great set, and I for one, would definitely buy it. Let me know what you peeps think.

That sounds like a great idea. I’m hoping we see a Regenerated Thirteenth Doctor figure ASAP in either collector set form or single carded. The only downside I can see is that CO would have to have got Twelve’s sculpt approved by Peter Capaldi as he has much longer hair in Twice Upon A Time, unless they just reuse the head sculpt from the Series 9 hoodie variants. Or they could make a twin pack similar to the Eleventh Doctor’s Crash Set which could be sold in retailers such as Toys R Us and Argos either at the beginning of next tear or to coincide with Series 11.

How long does a figure take to make? I’ve heard 6 months, so I’ll go from there. Assuming Character Options got the scans of Jodie in Peter’s costume in July, when we heard the news, theoretically they could have a figure done by the Toy Fair. But it all really depends. I really want a 13 figure in the next wave of figures, but I really don’t want just a 13th Doctor head plonked on a 12th Doctor body, because I think that would look wrong, especially if there is a big height difference like I’ve heard.

I definitely hope CO try their very hardest to get a 13th Doctor figure in full costume out by the time of Episode 1, because I’d like to have a 13th Doctor figure on the table nearby while watching episodes of Series 11, just as I would have loved to have a Bill figure to have along side 12th during Series 10. Alas, for some reason that never happened, even though they had ample opportunity to do that, as they got the scans in around June/July 2016. 🙁

my gut feeling is any already developed figures such as Bill that were planned for release this year will now become part of a “relaunch” in an attempt to get the figures back on shelves and we will also see some sort of new “toy line” pitched to retailers to coincide with series 11.

It will be down to retailer confidence to decide what ends up on the shelves – if anything

Its going to be a hard one to call as until the show airs in full we do not know in which direction it will go.

In my opinion Doctor Who merchandise has been bumping along the bottom for a couple of years now with only a hard core of loyal collectors keeping it going at all across all franchises.

It looks like we probably won’t be seeing a Bill figure now as it will be too late by the time Toy Fair comes around. If any new Twelfth Doctor variants are due, they would have to have been approved before Peter Capaldi refused for his likeness to be used on merchandise. I can easily see a Regenerated Thirteenth Doctor figure being on show at Toy Fair because CO will want to cash in on the hype for Series 11 and at Toy Fair in 2014 there was a 3.75” Regenerated Twelfth Doctor figure on show which was released a month later.

I was just thinking about the whole Peter Capaldi likeness thing going on and how there might be no figures for his Series 10 look but…

If Titans have got one in their new range then is there a chance?

I suspect this only applies to new sculpts, or even limited to BC, existing already approved ones can still be used

Sounds like we won’t be getting any 5” Series 10 Twelfth Doctor variants then if Peter Capaldi doesn’t want his likeness used for merchandise. Hopefully we at least get a Regenerated Thirteenth Doctor from Twice Upon A Time, but that depends on whether Jodie Whittaker wants her likeness used for merchandise. It also depends on how long it’s been in development for because if CO have only been developing it for a couple of months then we won’t see it until later next year.

Well, rumour has it she has been scanned for a figure, which would suggest she isn’t apposed to a figure.

    • booboo

      December 15th, 2017 - 2:02pm

I think they scan most people as a matter of course, we know people have been scanned but no figure was ever produced.

its also possible we will get existing Peter Capaldi sculpts on new products, big chief did say they wanted to do a “new and improved” head which would have needed approval.

I have no doubt we will get a 13th Doctor figure of some sort.

    • DannyTheNerd

      December 15th, 2017 - 1:55pm

I heard about that. I wonder why he suddenly doesn’t want his likeness on products. I wonder if this also means they can’t make new figures with the old head sculpt? Hmmmm…

    • Jordan Scott

      December 15th, 2017 - 3:21pm

Capaldi’s longer hair is his definitive look in my opinion, so it doesn’t seem fair at all that we as fans are just left with essentially a few not great s8 figures, (that goes for character and Big Chief). Not blaming anyone in particular, but it’s true.

Very weird idea here but they could make a new body to go with the Series 9 head sculpt 😛

Wouldn’t it be awful if Jodie didn’t allow the BBC to use her for Figures etc. It would mean that the BBC wouldn’t get nearly as many sales in merchandise – no Titans, Pops!, Character Options Figures, Big Cheif etc. I think that the BBC will definately push her to say yes, if she hasn’t already…

      December 15th, 2017 - 5:33pm

there must be something, otherwise Doctor Who licences would be severely devalued

once out of contract though, which presumably PC is now and Billie Piper was when she didn’t want any more its up them what they want to happen

    • WouldYouLikeAJellyBaby?

      December 17th, 2017 - 11:25am

It looks like UT/Seven20 have nothing to do with 5” figures anymore. According to WhoNA, they’re not expecting anymore figures from them. This still doesn’t explain why they were telling us news was coming, but something’s obviously changed.

    • booboo

      December 17th, 2017 - 11:59am

they have said they have no inventory of any already released figures left so there is no chance of any re-stocks.

they (UT) sold off most of their stock last year before the split (hence all the bargain sets, figures and other Doctor Who items that were around)

Seven20 are effectively starting again so they may still be involved in future releases and will want their new logo on merchandise hence why all existing stock was sold off.

    • The Outcast

      December 17th, 2017 - 11:59am

Are WhoNA expecting any figures from anywhere else though?

Well, on the subject of new figures, assuming the first we’ll see of them will be at the next Toy Fair, we only have have a month or so to go until we see them.

    • booboo

      December 17th, 2017 - 7:23pm

well things do seem to be grinding to a holt and some franchise holders (and retailers) may be a bit uncertain as to what the future holds right now

    December 14th, 2017 - 6:09pm

It should be written into the contract that they have to agree to merchandise. Of course it may well have been but as Capaldi’s contract is at an end he can do as he likes now. A real shame to be honest. Unless he’s been asked not to agree to anything so that the slate can be wiped clean for the show next year?

Interesting to read this from a big chief studios Q&A on why they have not done a S10 Capaldi figure, could this also have implications on other lines such as the 5″?

‘Any chance of a series 10, 12th Doctor variant?
Truth be told we had this figure in our plan to release, both separately and as part of a special “Twice Upon a Time” Christmas Special 2-pack together with the 1st Doctor as portrayed by David Bradley. We were very excited at the prospect of improving upon our original 12th Doctor, especially with what we all thought was a much cooler costume. We were also really excited to give fans the opportunity to own another version of the 1st Doctor. Unfortunately our concept was rejected, as Peter (Capaldi) did not want his likeness used on product at this point. That might change in the future, but right now it’s a no.’

interesting, if true, lets hope Jodie Whittaker doesn’t say the same thing! We might as well pack up now.

surprised he would pull the plug on such opportunities to be honest.

not sure how this would effect 5″ figures with already approved sculpts available.

only thing i would say is that the brand manager of 12 years (who ultimately approves everything ) is leaving this Christmas so maybe we are in “no mans land” right now.

I expect big changes next year

That seems strange of Capaldi, such a shame as that’s the only Big Cheif figure that I was hoping for and would buy

    • booboo

      December 13th, 2017 - 7:42pm

I’m not sure on this, if the (currently) lead character can do this it brings the viability of a acquiring a costly licence into question. I mean Big Chief are at the top end of the collectors market so what chance anyone else?

    • Koquillian

      December 13th, 2017 - 8:54pm

They do have to get approval for the sculpts I know for a fact because the Captain Jack figure they are developing has been rejected several times because Barrowman doesn’t like the likeness. Whether that’s just because of the agreement they have with the bbc or perhaps due to the size I don’t know. Rather encouraging though is that their 3rd doctor figure is coming along nicely and they are now developing the clothing for him. There was a bit of a scare because they had to delay several figures considerably but the company seems back on track now.

    • booboo

      December 13th, 2017 - 9:02pm

yes everything needs approval from someone but did not want his likeness used on product at this point is a rejection of anything good or bad.

    • The Outcast

      December 14th, 2017 - 4:24am

So Peter Capaldi doesn’t want his likeness used on anything? That is a real shame if true. Still, it shouldn’t stop a David Bradley First Doctor figure or a Bill figure being produced by either CO or Big Chief Studios.

And in Big Chief’s case, they could always package a new damaged 12th Doctor coat with the Hypothetical Bradley First Doctor.

    • booboo

      December 14th, 2017 - 8:29am

not sure how this works if it would only apply to new sculpts so existing approved ones could still be released

Bill figure already approved as far as I know, we just dont know what’s happened to it!

David Bradley must be Ok as figurine is all set to go

    • Koquillian

      December 14th, 2017 - 6:05pm

The Outcast, in the Q&A big chief said they wanted to make a two pack of Bradley and Capaldi from the Christmas special but with Capaldi’s refusal they decided not to. In regards to separate clothing they also said that it is not economically viable for them to release alternative costumes separate from figures which is a great shame as there are many great Capaldi costume variants. But in the recently announced lineup of big chief figures there was no Bradley announcement but rather Captain Jack, the 3rd doctor and a 10th doctor in spacesuit.
