I voted for Frontier in Space and Planet of the Daleks for sheer personal reasons.

FiS was my first story that I recall as an on-going programme (I was 6 and half at the time) and remember seeing the TARDIS spinning towards the cargo ship. Strange thing is that I knew of the Ogrons when they appeared and wondered where the Daleks were – it had the Draconians (why haven’t they returned?), Ogrons (why haven’t they returned?), Daleks, the Master’s last original appearance. It may drag on, it may not be the best story in Who history, but…..

….but its my first and seeing the Daleks at the end, sheer classic. Leading of course to a darn good Dalek story and now we all have episode three in colour (remember the scene from Queer as Folk that the third episode had been found in colour?). What I remember is early on the Saturday of either part 2 or 3 was going to the Odeon to see Dr Who and the Daleks in colour and then going to my Nans to watch the black and white episode.

Happy content memories. That’s why I voted for them.

However, in the last 6 months, season 7 has become, in my view, the best season of Doctor Who all-time.

Spearhead from Space on a large screen and upscaling Blu-Ray player is just phenomenal. I have seen it many times in the past, and recently, on a big screen just blew me away, and sent the story right into my top ten. Rest of season is intelligently brilliant.

Fabulous double act- Dr and Liz, 20 years ahead of its time.

I dont know why people hate the Time Monster, its one of my favourites, I love the concept of Atlantis, and the Master trying to get earth by using Human resources. However one of the best, if not the best Pertwee story has to obviously be the Three doctors, but I also loved Planet of the Daleks. He certainly made up for his loss of Cybermen with the Dalek stories!

I believe that if you like the Dr Who enough to read and contribute, then you do not actually hate anything about the programmme. Dislike perhaps.

Hate is a strong word, I think it better to think that people prefer most/all other stories, but still find aspects of The Time Monster to enjoy.

I never liked The Mutants, but last time I watched it I thought it to be very intelligent and thought provoking with very few naff moments. I would love to vote for it to bolster it’s score, but I do prefer most of the rest of the era.

I really enjoyed Planet of the Daleks because I had never seen the black and white Dalek stories, so it didn’t feel like a cheap rehash to me.I remember feeling kind of sick by the time I had finished watching (for the first time) because I had foolishly watched all six parts in one sitting ❗

But I did much enjoy it a whole lot more the week I rewatched it, one night at a time, while lying in bed about to fall asleep. This all sounds very sarcastic, but I serious, I really enjoyed that story ! Pertwee was great, the Dalek voices were the bes

I thought it would be worthwhile to talk about the colour restoration of many of the Pertwee episodes and the hard work that has been put into the DVDS. Only 70 of 128 his episodes exist in their original format but they are now all (some better than others) in colour. I think the most amazing is the re colourisation of The Mind of Evil episode 1. It looks stunning and I think we should all share our appreciation for the amazing work of the RT on these DVDs.

I totally agree with you there. The work the guys at the RT do is nothing short of phenomenal. I am really looking forward to the dvd of The mind of evil, just to see what an amazing job they have done on the colour restoration.

      April 8th, 2013 - 5:42pm

In regards to The Mind of Evil I can share a bit about what the colour recovery/re-colourisation is like Episode 1 is superb; absolutely fantastic! The second episode isn’t so great, admitted to be the worst by the RT, but that couldn’t have been avoided due to what was available. After that the colour recovery just gets better and better. A massive thanks in particular need to be given to Stuart Humphryes and Peter Crocker for their simply unbelievable efforts to get this back into colour!

Yep, I saw it at the BFI last month. I was very lucky as I missed out on initial sale but someone else had a spare when his friend dropped out. It was my first time seeing the story and it’s simply stunning; a real treat (especially in colour!). Stuart has done some amazing work and he is one of the most dedicated and nicest people I’ve ever met!
