‘A new Body at last!’
Character Options unveils its latest Doctor Who exclusive – The Master & TARDIS Set
Character Options and BBC Studios are excited to reveal that its latest exclusive Doctor Who set has materialised.
The Master & TARDIS set is a Doctor Who ‘Vortex Edition’ release that’s kept fans and collectors waiting 44 years! This set will be available to purchase today, 14th October 2025, solely through www.character-online.com.

The Master & TARDIS Set
This higher-specification “Vortex Edition” release comes with a scaled 5.5-inch figure of the iconic ‘Anthony Ainley’ Master, presented in his original black velvet outfit. This figure release comes with two interchangeable head pieces, one with a more neutral pose and a second featuring the Ainley Master’s notorious sneer!
He comes complete with his ‘Doric Column’ TARDIS accessory, as it was seen in Tom Baker’s final story ‘Logopolis’, as well as ‘Castrovalva’, before being changed for ‘Time Flight’. Also included within the exclusive pack are two versions of the Master’s weapon of choice, the Tissue Compression Eliminator (TCE) in closed and open modes, plus a Time Lord funeral casket, and Matrix Internment Orb, as used by the Seventh Doctor to carry the Master’s remains back to Gallifrey in the 1996 TV Movie.

Anthony Ainley
Anthony Ainley was a British character actor who played the role of the Master and enjoyed its tremendous appeal and scope. He enjoyed the pure joy of playing the Master and his elaborate schemes and disguises, as well as his uncanny ability to escape from many seemingly impossible situations. Ainley’s incarnation of the Master brought flamboyancy and malevolence to the role including a maniacal laugh that was so recognisable it went on to be featured in the contemporary series, post 2005.

The Master
At the end of his final regeneration, and using the power of the Source Manipulator on the Planet Traken, the Master then stole the body of Consul Tremas and regenerated himself. This version of the Master would go on to face seven incarnations of the Doctor. His first encounter was with the Fourth Doctor on Traken, he then had several confrontations with the Fifth and Sixth Doctors before eventually encountering the First, Second, and Third on Gallifrey. Along the way he also had an alliance with another renegade Time Lord, the Rani.
Despite cheating death many times, the Master was captured and executed by the Daleks. But even in death the Master had a plan. The recovery of his remains by the Seventh Doctor would prove deadly, as he cheated death once again, using the form of the Deathworm Morphant, setting in motion a series of events that ultimately led to the Seventh Doctor’s own regeneration into the Eighth.
“It’s been a very long time coming!”
Al Dewar, Creative Director at Character Options, stated: “This figure, or lack of, has been talked about and desired by so many fans for years. I have stated before that if we were to do it, it had to be done properly! It will, I hope, be a big but very welcome surprise to fans and collectors alike. The reason we’ve held off for so long is that Anthony Ainley’s contribution to Doctor Who cannot be understated. With the exception perhaps of the Brigadier, I can think of no other character that has had the so much of an impact on the show. So, I’m particularly pleased we could finally bring ‘a new Master… at last!’ to the figure range.”
This new set is on sale now through www.character-online.co.uk and costs £44.99. Each online exclusive release has unique features not to be seen on retail versions and with a limited amount available, this set is certainly one not to be missed!

November 3rd, 2025 - 3:11pmI live in the States, I received my Master and TARDIS column set on Saturday. I ordered it on the Character Options site about 2 weeks prior. I did email them last Wednesday, asking if there were any shipping updates. I got an email back that said, orders from America couldn’t be processed on their site. And that it would take a long time to get it, as invoices had to go out from a warehouse in the States, back to England. And then the item would ship from LA. Well, I did order it just fine, from the C.A. web site. My box shipped to me from a warehouse in Los Vegas, not Los Angeles. It was actually the shortest wait time I ever had. But, their was no shipping info sent from either side. It just showed up. Happy to have it. But the logistics need work. The figure looks amazing. I’m happy.

October 31st, 2025 - 7:32pmCan someone tell me is there gonna be a Horror Of Fang Rock set coming out soon. Just ave heard a rumour about this. Maybe someone on here would know but ave heard nothing or any mention of it on here.

November 1st, 2025 - 6:48pmIt’s just a joke. The proposed set even included Max Headroom and a fly swatter (if you know, you know). But as usual with Who fans, plenty of them took it seriously – and then there were others who thought they were terribly clever for spotting a “hoax”. (You couldn’t make it up…)
Andy
November 3rd, 2025 - 12:06pmThanks Rex for clearing that up. Yeah hoaxes ave fell for a few of those in the past but I’m more wise now if something is happening I won’t believe it until there has been a official announcement. Whether it’s figures, media releases, or missing episodes been found I won’t believe unless it’s announced. At least we can now as I always thought that Doctor Who would still continue after Disney pulled the plug the effects were great it was just badly written. It’s just a long wait until next Christmas for new Doctor Who which again might be up in the air of a new series for 2027 I think it would all depend on the viewing figures for next year’s special before giving the go ahead for a new series for filming would take time if that is the case it won’t hit out screens until at least the Autumn 2027. But yeah a break is what it needs to refresh ideas take it back to its roots bring back some of the classic villains like the Autons or even the Siltheen as they could be considered as a comeback they not been seen for over 20 years now since the 9th Doctor.

October 23rd, 2025 - 12:45amI got my this morning from royal mail and the master figure looks good for a classic master from the 4th and 5th,6th And also 7th doctor’s era

October 22nd, 2025 - 4:57pmThis is a really amazing figure! Great to finally have the (arguably) more iconic version of the classic Master, and although I have the original release of the column TARDIS the slightly larger size makes it much more impressive
If i had to pick one downside it’s the lack of hinged shoulders, since Al said the Vortex line would be super articulated and Ainley was incredibly dynamic, it would have been nice to get more movement in the arms!
bob hellier
October 22nd, 2025 - 4:49pmdo you think maybe there will be a Roger Delgado one too?
vladnag
October 22nd, 2025 - 4:53pmNot sure what they could do to make it warrant a £45 Vortex edition, unless it was packed with a sunflower Auton or something like that! He’s also already been released in a B&M set (Although that as in 2016) so i wouldn’t expect a re-release any time soon!

October 21st, 2025 - 10:21pmDid anyone else see that the 5th set of the year has been pushed back to February 2026? So set 4 is due to come out just before Christmas and set 5 in Feb 2026. Bit of a shame as I was looking forward to 2 more sets before the end of the year! But probably just being greedy aha!

October 21st, 2025 - 8:22pmGoing back to someone’s comment of the console if you look at the Dapol version made for the 3.5 inch figures back in the 1990’s it was a fair big lump so can understand why they have balked at making it. I hope CO will give release dates when they announce next years vortex items

October 21st, 2025 - 6:45pmGot mine today.
AWESOME!!!!
Nice to have a different character for a change rather than the usual repeats!
Andrew
October 20th, 2025 - 7:29pmI ordered mine on the 14th and it’s still processing. I’m in the USA so I’m concerned the Tariffs have something to do with that but I haven’t found any info online confirming that.
William
October 21st, 2025 - 6:48pmThink it will be a while before you receive anything but I don’t know , from podcasts I have listened to a certain amount of sets have been sent to a warehouse in the USA and they will be sent from there to help with the tariffs ,
I suggest if your worried try to contact someone at character but I think it will be fine it will just take longer
Joe
October 20th, 2025 - 1:17pmStill in stock!
Wonder how many are left?
Although the price is steep I think this is one of if not THE best figure we’ve gotten!
Really hope an updated season 18 Tom is on the way soon to go with him.
And for the love of god please Al give us some more classic companions!
Jamie! Susan! Tegan!

October 21st, 2025 - 3:24pmPower of 3 podcast think mentioned 2000 sold , so must be selling out soon .
Think some gone over to a USA warehouse too .
My set should come tomorrow.
Also interesting that a certain YouTuber in trouble as mentioned in the podcast , it is a shame when something gets leaked but to have a whole video is unprecedented .
booboo
October 21st, 2025 - 3:58pmwhen was that?, only 2000 to date would really surprise me
William
October 21st, 2025 - 4:42pmPower of 3 podcast (it’s on YouTube) , around 24 mins he mentions about 2000 gone .
That episode came out 20th October.
William
October 21st, 2025 - 4:44pmHe does go on to say that he expects that to be higher now and that because it’s the middle of the month that may contribute to slow sales as people haven’t been paid etc
Jamie
October 21st, 2025 - 5:14pmI’m the interview Al says he doesn’t think anyone has them yet so it must have been recorded just the day after the announcement. I imagine they have sold a few more since then.
William

October 18th, 2025 - 12:41pmAny suggestions as to why anyone would buy this set off eBay (as two people have) for £73.48 plus £3.71 and £63.07 plus £3.49 when this can be bought for £44.99 on the CO website? I am mystified.
Douglas
October 18th, 2025 - 1:54pmWell…..
Can you buy two sets from Character…..?
Two Masters would better than one…..especially if one can just buy the figure, without the Doric Column to go with…..
Snowman
October 19th, 2025 - 3:55pmYes Matt Y, it’s a Mystery. I can Understand if it was a Bricks and Mortar Shop Exclusive such as B&M and you couldn’t get the Sets in Store or you lived Abroad and you didn’t have Any Shops in Your Country. But When its an Online Exclusive and You Buy the Sets from Ebay for Much more Money than Retail it Does Surprises me. You must Have Access to the Internet to Buy off Ebay so why not Buy straight from the Original Source and Pay just RRP?
anthony fagn
October 19th, 2025 - 7:33pmYep totally baffles me as well. Still in stock yet people rather pay 2 or 3 times the RRP. LOL… it happens everytime there is an exclusive item from the website. Very strange. Bit of a mystery but there we go.

October 17th, 2025 - 12:03pmJust arrived and it’s beautiful. Better than the promo shots!

Tom Williams
October 17th, 2025 - 1:58pm@the ergon was that from h ? Or rare waves
Coleman
October 17th, 2025 - 5:34pmMine Was From Zavvi Tom, if that Helps You.
I Always Order From Amazon, but if you Remember Amazon took a Couple of Days to List the Last Blu-Ray Collection while Zavvi, H, and Other Retailers all had listings already up so I went with Zavvi for a Change. Came Early Anyway.
Tom Williams
October 17th, 2025 - 11:34pm? I was only asking as h seem slower this year by the looks off it with this season I remember 25 mine came quicker before zavvi ones (obvs not rare waves)
Coleman
October 16th, 2025 - 6:54pmI had an Email at 10.40 This Morning saying my Set was Despatched. Shouldnt be long Now Hopefully.

October 15th, 2025 - 9:02pmBrilliant figure set! The leak only fuelled my desire for it. I have the original master with the 5th, that was a nice set. This one is very cool,
Summer Harlequin
October 15th, 2025 - 5:20pmI really would love to buy this, but the figure looks chunky doesn’t look right. The head scope is amazing. I’m a bit sad because the original one is a lot better looking. I’m a bit sad about this one.
Tom Williams
October 15th, 2025 - 5:33pmMy opinion this looks better then the last one considering the body that was used by ain’t great on knowledge with characters more looked like the John Simmons body that was used but with ainsleys head this is more a better way how they included a spare one and the other accessories on top considering this is cheap now especially how much it is listed on eBay with the 5th doctors one
Jamie
October 15th, 2025 - 2:02pmVery nice set. Got my order in yesterday. Shame some of the excitement was taken away by the leaks. In an interview yesterday Al said he expected it to sell out on the first day. Its still in stock at the moment but I imagine stocks must be getting low. I just hope the leaks didn’t hurt sales.
FH
October 15th, 2025 - 4:26pmAt this point it’s as though Al is trying to make himself look bad. I don’t mean that to be insulting, but sold out on the first day? Who’s he kidding? He doesn’t help himself does he. The ‘80% Sold Out After 3 Days’ 14th Doctor set is still available 4 months later, as is the ‘very limited stock’ Third Doctor one. In fact, not a single Vortex Edition set has ever sold out, literally every single one is still available. I love what Character Options are doing with Doctor Who, so I don’t want it to seem like I’m dissing them, but Al seems like he’s been reading from the ‘Russell T Davies How To Hype Up Your Product’ Playbook. I’d love to be proved wrong of course, as it’d mean they’re doing really well, but I just find it annoying when people make delusional claims that contrast the evidence.
booboo
October 15th, 2025 - 5:08pmI’m surprised if there are only 4000 that it hasn’t sold out, or very close to it to be honest.
Jamie
October 15th, 2025 - 5:30pmI fear the leaks damaged this one. The must buy mentality goes away when its already old news.
And I’m sure the 80% Sold Out After 3 Days’ 14th Doctor and Meep set is true. Normally they do sell the lions share in the first day or two and then the rest trickle out over a longer time. The amount of stock left is probably limited, but it would be nice to see some of these sets sell out soon.
Jamie
October 15th, 2025 - 10:42pmFH you are speaking facts don’t think there’s as much hype for Doctor Who anymore 2005-2009 was the peak
John
October 16th, 2025 - 10:13amFH, I’d like to se ethe proof to back your claims. Its quite common for products to sell 60 to 80% on release then trickle. For example you can still find Rapido Titfield Thunderbolt models, Hornby Rocket models, all of which sold almost all. I bought a Jungles of Mechanus quite a while after first release. Manufacturer’s build this in – the profit point will be quite low in the run so they can afford stragglers.
It’s also good a few are around for collectors new to the products.
FH
October 16th, 2025 - 11:44am@John the proof is literally just look at the character options website. Every ‘Vortex Edition’ is still available. I know the 60-80% thing, that’s just logical, which is why im pointing out that Al Dewar is setting himself up for failure by saying things like ‘I think this master set is going to sell out on one day’. Of course it’s not! (And didn’t). I suppose the argument is he’s just trying to hype up the project and get people to buy out of fomo but, imo it just makes the line look bad by expressing extremely high expectations which almost instantly aren’t met.
