Downtime is a unique British 1995 sci-fi movie from the Doctor Who universe (but unofficial) featuring treasured characters and talent from the franchise and only now released on DVD – it’s a must see for fans of the Time Lord.

We follow The Brigadier (Nicholas Courtney – Doctor Who) and Sarah Jane Smith (Elisabeth Sladen – Doctor Who, The Sarah Jane Adventures) of UNIT who investigate New World University; a sinister school run by old enemies Victoria Waterfield and Professor Travers.

The technology obsessed University holds a gateway to Earth made by classic foe the ‘Great Intelligence’. Fighting alone this time – without their famous time-travelling scientific advisor – The Brigadier and Sarah Jane are hard pressed to decide who is friend or foe as they search for a missing Locus, which binds the Intelligence’s power.

Looking forward to getting this. So I’ve already pre-ordered. I bought ‘Wartime’ recently. That was okay, but some of the acting was a bit iffy in places. But the setting and backdrop of that story was wonderful. Plus the ‘Wartime’ DVD came with some lovely extra features. I don’t know whether ‘Downtime’ will come with any? Maybe reeltime pictures should have done a trilogy…’Watime’ , ‘Downtime’ , and… ‘Breaktime’ …or if they ever eventually do a third with a similar title, then perhaps it should be called ‘About (bleeding) time!’ 🙂

Glad this is coming out on dvd . Watched my old vhs version a bit back. Acting can be a bit below up and down . But not so much with main cast. It’s good fun. Funny enough forget my video was limited edition . Signed by the cast . A lot sadly missed.

HMV are usually pretty good with indie titles, even if in limited quantities. For example in the past they’ve stocked stuff like the Captain America and Nick Fury TV movies. With Doctor Who in the title expect them to have some – but maybe don’t expect it to still be there after 2 or 3 months.

    A new release, finally!

Though the question now is if Levine managed to push it out with his Sylvester McCoy footage.

I really don’t think that will be making an appearance. Surely so many legal issues with that?

The released footage looks awful anyway; would be glad to see it never released (by Levine, though extremely unlikely to happen, or anyone else.)

This is the only one to feature the Brig (bar a voice cameo in Wartime) so couldn’t really woek. Could go with Daemos Rising though.

Apparently it will be released on dvd sometime in the not too distant future. Sylvester McCoy has recorded some footage as the 7th Doctor to be added to the story for the updated version for dvd release.
