Pyramids of Mars Priory Set

In this Fourth Doctor adventure, the TARDIS materialises on Earth in the year 1911 inside an old priory owned by Egyptologist Marcus Scarman. Scarman has been possessed by Sutekh, last survivor of the god-like Osirans, who is being held prisoner inside a pyramid in Egypt by a signal transmitted from a pyramid on Mars.

Sutekh wants to be free and instructs Scarman to use robots, which look like Egyptian mummies, to build a pyramid-shaped rocket with which to destroy the Martian pyramid. The Doctor blows up the missile but falls under Sutekh’s control and is made to transport Scarman to Mars to cut off the signal controlling the prison. The Doctor, freed of Sutekh’s influence, rushes back to Earth and uses the time control from the TARDIS to move the end of the space-time tunnel that Sutekh is travelling down into the far future where, unable to reach the end, Sutekh ages to death.

Looks great and I will buy it but what is the point in a scarman figure, if they’re going to make obscure henchmen, make Lytton ! The KING of obscure henchmen.

Also, why would you get two of them ? And army of Sutehks ? ❓

I would image a lot of people buy 2 sets so they can have every combination on display

I bought 2 three Doctor sets so i could have both versions of Jo, same for Victory of the Daleks set and city of death

      Oh right, yeah that makesense.

I was going to add “Surely this cardboard picture box is just a mock-up, the real product will allow you to see what’s inside.”

      May 3rd, 2013 - 10:18am

Or the other possibility is some are misreading the picture and it’s an illustration that is portrayed on a closed pack and not a window box.

It would make a lot of sense. Otherwise how come you don;t see any of the pyramid or the Sutekh in the supposed window.

There are precedents, the 3 3/4″ diorama playsets are also not in a window boxes, also the Eleventh Doctor console room is not in a window box either.

Is it weird that I don’t like the human action figures (that includes all the Doctors)? I just think they always get the likenesses wrong and they just look off. ‘The monsters are always more believable and realistic and (in my opinion)the only ones worth buying outside a full set. What does anyone else think?

I think the likenesses are great, my Eleventh Doctor figure looks like he Geronimoed right out of the screen.

I love the human figures but don’t see the point in making scarman.

I think they could’ve made Sutekh’s servant from Part 1, but I think they were trying to round the set out with a figure that not many people knew of or wanted.

I like the idea of being able to build a huge episode set. There is the Tom Baker figure, the first set, the mummy and now this one!

If only there was a Satah Jane to go with it.

      May 2nd, 2013 - 2:18pm

They may not be able to do Sarah Jane now, we just dont know

    • Johnny

      May 3rd, 2013 - 9:57am

Why wouldn’t they be able to do a Sarah Jane?

Presumably Liz Sladen signed away her likeness for Character to be able to do the SJA figures, so it seems likely that this also included a Doctor Who branded figure, therefore removing any legal difficulties of releasing a figure.

    • booboo

      May 3rd, 2013 - 10:26am

she was very particular about how the figures looked i understand and would probably have only approved the figures as she was in The Sarah Jane Adventures, They may not have made a figure of how she looked in the 70,s for her to approve. It would be down to her family now most likely

Yes, but it’s really expensive wherever I find it. The only Tom Baker figures I can find for under $40 are the Destiny of the Daleks and City of Death sets (The latter of which I hope to get for my birthday this month).

    • McGann is the Doctor

McGann is the Doctor, yes, but I don’t have the kind of money to get both, however, my brother does want to get the Destiny set for his birthday, so I might be able to swap the ‘City’ body for the ‘Destiny’ one, assuming we get those. Anonymous, I live in America, so I would need to know the price in dollars, not pounds, but thanks anyway 😉

Superb news; has made my day. Any Pyramids of Mars merchandise is always welcome. There are so many iconic elements to the story.

I just think that Sutekh is the most awesome villain to have appeared in the programme. I mean awesome in every sense. Had Sutekh not been stopped the havoc wreaked on the universe would have been so great. No one other individual could possibly have done so much damage and been so unstoppable. The story is suitable serious throughout.

The figures sound great, and the mock-up just wonderful. Thanks for sharing.

If you like Sontarans, the best set to get is probably the time warrior set, it took me a little while to track it down because it was rarified for a while, but i went to FP Nottingham and they had loads, i suggest that one, because its pertwee, the best Sontaran not to mention the first, and you get his ship.
