New 3.75″ Figures and playsets in 2013 – Poll
New 3.75″ Scale Action Figures and playsets in 2013
In a recent interview for www.toysnplaythings.co.uk, Character along with several other companies have talked about their future plans for Doctor Who Products.
You can read all the interviews and stories via www.toysnplaythings.co.uk magazine or click on the image below.
One quote however appears to give us some major news on new figures and sets…
What exciting new products will you have coming out in future?
“Our product range will be diverse and innovative, in addition to the figures and playsets that have been released, Autumn 2012 will see the first Doctor Who App-related toy in which you connect your smartphone to a physical device enabling kids to digitally battle Daleks, Cybermen and Angels as they appear in their actual location on screen via augmented reality. We have huge expectations from an exciting new toy range for 2013 with new scale action figures, playsets and role play toys. Construction will continue to grow with the introduction of Series three micro-figures and all new playsets based on the upcoming episodes.”
The current 5 inch figure range
- The Classic series figure range will stay the same scale, 5 inches.
- No more new series figures will be made in the 5 inch range.
- Rory was the final new series figure to be made for the 5 inch scale range, although there may be re-releases (Like the B&M Dalek and Cybermen sets).
The new 3.75 inch figure range
- The new scale range will be 3.75 inches which is industry standard. This means the toys will be more compatible with other ranges.
- There are no plans to release already existing figures in the new scale range. (Excluding Daleks and Weeping angels seen in series 7)
- Photos of the range will not be released until next year.
- There is a possibility stands if costs allow but priority will be given to the figures.
- There will be a range of four playsets.
Above is what we know so far thanks to Alasdair Dewar.

July 23rd, 2015 - 9:06pmWe have the first 11 doctors in 5″. The 12th arrived in a different scale. Can’t display it with the others. Not buying any more 3.75″. Eventually somebody will do some new 5″ Doctor Who figures

July 23rd, 2015 - 9:09pmdo you not look at the site before commenting like this?
a 5″ 12th Doctor has been up for order for days now
Jason
August 24th, 2014 - 7:24pmI never collected the 5″ figures so for me (well my son) the 3.75 figures are great he’s got them all apart from 12th dr. He has some 5″ figures but to him thay don’t go with his superhero figures witch are 3.75
BlueBox2013
January 5th, 2014 - 5:22pmThere’s probably no way that they’re going back to
5 inch now so i’m probably going to start collecting however I do thing the waves should have more figures than just 6 and it would be good if they did all 13 doctors as a set.
Mike
January 7th, 2014 - 10:27pmI hate this! I want more 5 inch figures. I have a lot of money tied up in them. If they wanna market more toward kids that’s understandable,
but don’t stop making new characters in the 5 inch. John Hurt’s figure is a good sign, I hope.
Nick
November 28th, 2013 - 11:11amVery disappointed there won’t be anymore 5 inch ones, won’t be purchasing any of the 3.75 ones, Will do a custom version of John Hurt Doctor in the 5 inch and thats me done collecting wise..

December 27th, 2013 - 10:24pmMate the John hurt is going to be 5 inch
mapelba
July 7th, 2013 - 7:27pmI’m disappointed the new figures will be smaller. I’m not made of money. I can’t buy new characters AND replace old ones, which is wasteful anyway. I’ve often found the selection of available characters baffling anyway, and if sales aren’t what they want, I doubt it’s all because of the size. I guess I’ll buy a few characters, but not as many as I might have otherwise.

June 27th, 2013 - 11:27pmits a shame we wont have a new 5 inch of rose because the two they did weren’t very good in my opinion 🙁

June 9th, 2013 - 11:44amI’m still going to buy the classics, but to hell with the new releases, the classics to me are just lovely the way they are :), but I would have got a new cyberman if it was 5″. 🙁
Taras
June 6th, 2013 - 9:39pmIt is disappointing that Character chooses to be compatible with other ranges but not their Doctor Who range. I feel this is totally misguided.
booboo
June 6th, 2013 - 9:56pmNothing misguided about it
The mass figure market is driven by price points and large retailer requirements not core collectors i’m afraid.

May 28th, 2013 - 12:31amWell Character Options has done itself out of getting some of my money with this move. I will probably still buy the Cyberman, but I will no longer be buying the Ice Warrior or the Dalek Invasion playset. I was only considering the playset for the Trans-solar disc to use with my classic Daleks, but as they will be too big to be compatible there’s no point now. Iron Man figures went to this scale and they’re AWFUL, used to make Cybermen with them, don’t do it anymore because the product is terrible. Very disappointing Character Options…

May 18th, 2013 - 9:06pmWave 2 should be:
Madame Vastra
Jenny
Strax
10th Doctor
Rose Tyler
River Song
Dalek Drone
Cyberman (Closing Time and Nightmare In Silver)
Wave 2 Rare Figures:
Vastra (Victorian Suit)
Dalek Stratigist
Cyberleader (Closing Time and Nightmare In Silver)
Dalek the Supreme
June 6th, 2013 - 11:04pmI think Ten and Rose would be better in a 50th Anniversery Special set. They need to make a Whisperman with a rare Dr. Simeon variant.

August 24th, 2013 - 9:46pmthere should be no other waves for 3 inch

April 27th, 2013 - 1:56pmI’ve only bought the Doctor figures. I have one of each from the 1st to the 11th.. I will not be able to suddenly change to 3.75 once the Doctor regenerates. And then I wont be able to change them all to 3.75! So, I’m kind of screwed.
Dalek The Supreme
April 25th, 2013 - 2:53amWhen wave 2 comes, it should have:
Dalek drone (new color)
Dalek Prime Minister
Gunslinger
Kate Stewart
Mummy
Vigil
The doctors no 1 fan
May 31st, 2013 - 7:55am100 % for the Vigils, Mummy and Gunslinger

Ada
The red Doctor
The Von Barron Brothers
Time Zobie
Clara from most episods
Sponnheads
Dalek Skeleton
Solomon
Robot Double pack 1 AND 2

March 2nd, 2013 - 2:00pmI’m not sure what has prompted the change, Im assuming its all down to cost. All that really makes me a bit sad (for want of a better word) is the fact that when we get a 12th doctor (eventually we will, although matt has no plans to quit), we will never be able to get all the doctors in the same scale. So my 9th doctor will never team up with the 12th or whatever. Sorry if this makes no sense, sounded ok in my head
Anonymous
March 2nd, 2013 - 3:31pmNo it does. Knowing them though, if there is a multi-Doctor story they’ll bring them all out in the new scale to stop people demanding a 5” version of future Doctors.
josh smith
March 2nd, 2013 - 3:33pmyes matt is quitting this year
Starwho
March 2nd, 2013 - 3:42pmHe’s not its not been confirmed matt said he’s not till 2015
Sam Bentley
April 21st, 2013 - 11:13pmJosh Smith, Matt has been comfirmed for at least 2014 and as we have seen him filming the 50th anniversary we know he is not regenerating this series. I don’t know why you think he is leaving, unless you are one of those who believe the newspapers, who are only reporting rumours anyway.
Dan
February 22nd, 2013 - 6:14pm3 1/2 inches or 5 inches spent really matter. The CO figures never had a huge amount of detail any way. If I want detailed figures, ill do up my own customs or get Big Chiefs awesome line. As a matter of fact go on to Sideshow collectors website and search for Warriors Gate Productions to see awesome derailed figures. WgP is awesome. I will continue to buy and collect the DW figures because I love anything Who related but definitely not for the detail.
Dalek The Supreme
February 22nd, 2013 - 6:27pmHow are the 5-inch figures not detailed??? My Daleks, both Classic and Paradigm, look like they trundled out of the screen! My 11th Doctor could easily be the real Matt Smith if it was taller!
oswin oswald
February 17th, 2013 - 9:54amif the sales of the 5 inch figures have gone down, and if hardly anyone likes the new series range figures, they would not sell.alsoit is not good for the 50th line
booboo
February 17th, 2013 - 9:56amthen there probably wont be any more, these new figures are all about the sets and playability
Dominic Kane
April 18th, 2013 - 6:48pmwho cares about playsets 3 inch is too small
oswin oswald
February 17th, 2013 - 9:50amim sorry but i dont like the new size, wouldnt character options know that children would play with 5 inch figures and if they wanted clara, they would have to pretend that she is taller. booboo do you know why they have changed size?
booboo
February 17th, 2013 - 9:53amretailers weren’t ordering them in quantities needed to make them viable – these need to be mass market which was no longer there
oswin oswald
February 17th, 2013 - 9:55amokay do you like them?
Dominic Kane
April 20th, 2013 - 11:58amthe reason why shops weren’t buying the series 6 figures was because they kept having the same characters but with flesh packs
DarkFool
May 28th, 2013 - 12:26amThe old stuff wasn’t selling because they were choosing the lamest things to make figures of or rereleasing the same thing in multi packs over and over again. This season has great merchandising opportunities which are now wasted as the detail we’re used to is now being sacrificed for scale. Probably going to lose pose ability too. The other thing that occurs to me is the issue of safety. The parts were already small on the 5″ range, you make those parts smaller and you’ve got a major choking hazard on your hands there.
Dominic Kane
February 10th, 2013 - 7:59pmGUYS IF YOUR NOT HAPPY ABOUT THE FIGURE SIZE CHANGE AND YOU WANT MORE SERIES 6 THEN SEND A LETTER TO CHARACTER OPTIONS THEIR ADDRESS IS:
Customer Service Department
Character Options Ltd
Lees Brook Mill
Lees Road
Oldham
OL4 5JL
THEN IF ENOUGHT PEOPLE COMPLAIN THEY MIGHT GO BACK TO 5 INCH AND DO MORE SERIES 6!

February 10th, 2013 - 8:00pmor just stop making doctor who figures all together
Dominic Kane
February 10th, 2013 - 8:04pmwell yeah but come on they have to do more series 6 in 5 inch because most of them was the doctor in different shirts and they repeated the cybermen alot and repeating most of them with flesh packs.
booboo
February 10th, 2013 - 8:07pmno demand from retailers, the line was old and had stopped selling in the quantities needed to invest in new figures (which cost a fortune for the sculpts and tooling )
It was a change in detection or nothing at all
Do you really thing they would have stopped the line if it had been profitable for them
Dominic Kane
February 10th, 2013 - 8:09pmoh.I’m really disapointed about the figure size change its ruined everything 🙁

January 23rd, 2013 - 4:25pmI have over a 100 5″ figures, but now this new size has been announced I will not be able to play with the new figures whilst playing with the others, this concerns me as I will have to rebuild my collection from scratch! 🙁

June 30th, 2013 - 5:58pmI have collected Doctor WHO 5″ figures since 2004 until now at the age of fourteen, sadly I have to say, I’m extremely disappointed with the new releases of figures at 3.75″ in height, I was hoping to collect the ‘Whispermen’ in the foreseeable future, as well as the figures in series seven. However I’m glad that the making of figures in continuing, I won’t be buying the figures at the height of 3.75″ due to money spent over the years on the 5″ figures. I just hope that character options change their mind.

Robert
January 18th, 2013 - 6:24pmI want a 5inch clara too I just hope its re-releases but in my opinion I think its pointless because of all those thousands of people who have created dr who figure adventures it means they’ll all have to start their collection from scratch

January 22nd, 2013 - 9:50amI want a 5 inch 12th and 13th doctor etc and 5 inch New versions of any future cybermen and daleks to display next to my existing ones

January 22nd, 2013 - 9:23pmI wanted more figures from the 2011 Series, I thought for sure they would have made the Minotaur, the Doctor in his green coat, the Handbots atleast.
Dorium, the Headless Monks and a new Amy would have been good too 🙁

craigbp330gmailcom
January 22nd, 2013 - 9:45amIt’ll ruin my collection. I’ve got the 11 doctors and the different tardises on a shelf. On another shelf I’ve got an example of all the different cybermen from the tenth planet to the new ones, I call it my evolution of the cybermen shelf. Similarly the daleks and now each shelf wil stop dead. Small figures will look daft next to them.
Mike in SWFL
January 28th, 2013 - 1:32amI don’t know why folks are complaining about the new 1/18 scale figures. It puts the Doctor and the other characters in scale with Star Wars, G.I. Joe, Marvel and various other character lines. There’s a whole range of diecast vehicles from a variety of manufacturers as well. It essentially increases the play value.

January 25th, 2013 - 7:40amThe new size will make them more cash as people will have to restart their collections but it would have been nice for them to have still offered the 5 inch as well. I know I would buy both scales. What I’d really like to see is some new 1/6 scale dolls though.
booboo
January 25th, 2013 - 7:44amif they made both scales it would effect sales each line probably making them unviable
