New 3.75″ Figures and playsets in 2013 – Poll

New 3.75″ Scale Action Figures and playsets in 2013

In a recent interview for www.toysnplaythings.co.uk, Character along with several other companies have talked about their future plans for Doctor Who Products.

You can read all the interviews and stories via www.toysnplaythings.co.uk magazine or click on the image below.

One quote however appears to give us some major news on new figures and sets…

What exciting new products will you have coming out in future?

“Our product range will be diverse and innovative, in addition to the figures and playsets that have been released, Autumn 2012 will see the first Doctor Who App-related toy in which you connect your smartphone to a physical device enabling kids to digitally battle Daleks, Cybermen and Angels as they appear in their actual location on screen via augmented reality. We have huge expectations from an exciting new toy range for 2013 with new scale action figures, playsets and role play toys. Construction will continue to grow with the introduction of Series three micro-figures and all new playsets based on the upcoming episodes.”

The current 5 inch figure range

  • The Classic series figure range will stay the same scale, 5 inches.
  • No more new series figures will be made in the 5 inch range.
  • Rory was the final new series figure to be made for the 5 inch scale range, although there may be re-releases (Like the B&M Dalek and Cybermen sets).

The new 3.75 inch figure range

  • The new scale range will be 3.75 inches which is industry standard. This means the toys will be more compatible with other ranges.
  • There are no plans to release already existing figures in the new scale range. (Excluding Daleks and Weeping angels seen in series 7)
  • Photos of the range will not be released until next year.
  • There is a possibility stands if costs allow but priority will be given to the figures.
  • There will be a range of four playsets.

Above is what we know so far thanks to Alasdair Dewar.

We have the first 11 doctors in 5″. The 12th arrived in a different scale. Can’t display it with the others. Not buying any more 3.75″. Eventually somebody will do some new 5″ Doctor Who figures

I never collected the 5″ figures so for me (well my son) the 3.75 figures are great he’s got them all apart from 12th dr. He has some 5″ figures but to him thay don’t go with his superhero figures witch are 3.75

There’s probably no way that they’re going back to
5 inch now so i’m probably going to start collecting however I do thing the waves should have more figures than just 6 and it would be good if they did all 13 doctors as a set.

I hate this! I want more 5 inch figures. I have a lot of money tied up in them. If they wanna market more toward kids that’s understandable,
but don’t stop making new characters in the 5 inch. John Hurt’s figure is a good sign, I hope.

Very disappointed there won’t be anymore 5 inch ones, won’t be purchasing any of the 3.75 ones, Will do a custom version of John Hurt Doctor in the 5 inch and thats me done collecting wise..

I’m disappointed the new figures will be smaller. I’m not made of money. I can’t buy new characters AND replace old ones, which is wasteful anyway. I’ve often found the selection of available characters baffling anyway, and if sales aren’t what they want, I doubt it’s all because of the size. I guess I’ll buy a few characters, but not as many as I might have otherwise.

It is disappointing that Character chooses to be compatible with other ranges but not their Doctor Who range. I feel this is totally misguided.

      Nothing misguided about it

The mass figure market is driven by price points and large retailer requirements not core collectors i’m afraid.

Well Character Options has done itself out of getting some of my money with this move. I will probably still buy the Cyberman, but I will no longer be buying the Ice Warrior or the Dalek Invasion playset. I was only considering the playset for the Trans-solar disc to use with my classic Daleks, but as they will be too big to be compatible there’s no point now. Iron Man figures went to this scale and they’re AWFUL, used to make Cybermen with them, don’t do it anymore because the product is terrible. Very disappointing Character Options…

I’ve only bought the Doctor figures. I have one of each from the 1st to the 11th.. I will not be able to suddenly change to 3.75 once the Doctor regenerates. And then I wont be able to change them all to 3.75! So, I’m kind of screwed.

I’m not sure what has prompted the change, Im assuming its all down to cost. All that really makes me a bit sad (for want of a better word) is the fact that when we get a 12th doctor (eventually we will, although matt has no plans to quit), we will never be able to get all the doctors in the same scale. So my 9th doctor will never team up with the 12th or whatever. Sorry if this makes no sense, sounded ok in my head

No it does. Knowing them though, if there is a multi-Doctor story they’ll bring them all out in the new scale to stop people demanding a 5” version of future Doctors.

Josh Smith, Matt has been comfirmed for at least 2014 and as we have seen him filming the 50th anniversary we know he is not regenerating this series. I don’t know why you think he is leaving, unless you are one of those who believe the newspapers, who are only reporting rumours anyway.

3 1/2 inches or 5 inches spent really matter. The CO figures never had a huge amount of detail any way. If I want detailed figures, ill do up my own customs or get Big Chiefs awesome line. As a matter of fact go on to Sideshow collectors website and search for Warriors Gate Productions to see awesome derailed figures. WgP is awesome. I will continue to buy and collect the DW figures because I love anything Who related but definitely not for the detail.

How are the 5-inch figures not detailed??? My Daleks, both Classic and Paradigm, look like they trundled out of the screen! My 11th Doctor could easily be the real Matt Smith if it was taller!

      April 20th, 2013 - 11:58am

the reason why shops weren’t buying the series 6 figures was because they kept having the same characters but with flesh packs

    • DarkFool

      May 28th, 2013 - 12:26am

The old stuff wasn’t selling because they were choosing the lamest things to make figures of or rereleasing the same thing in multi packs over and over again. This season has great merchandising opportunities which are now wasted as the detail we’re used to is now being sacrificed for scale. Probably going to lose pose ability too. The other thing that occurs to me is the issue of safety. The parts were already small on the 5″ range, you make those parts smaller and you’ve got a major choking hazard on your hands there.

  • Dominic Kane

    February 10th, 2013 - 7:59pm

GUYS IF YOUR NOT HAPPY ABOUT THE FIGURE SIZE CHANGE AND YOU WANT MORE SERIES 6 THEN SEND A LETTER TO CHARACTER OPTIONS THEIR ADDRESS IS:

well yeah but come on they have to do more series 6 in 5 inch because most of them was the doctor in different shirts and they repeated the cybermen alot and repeating most of them with flesh packs.

      February 10th, 2013 - 8:07pm

no demand from retailers, the line was old and had stopped selling in the quantities needed to invest in new figures (which cost a fortune for the sculpts and tooling )

It was a change in detection or nothing at all

I have collected Doctor WHO 5″ figures since 2004 until now at the age of fourteen, sadly I have to say, I’m extremely disappointed with the new releases of figures at 3.75″ in height, I was hoping to collect the ‘Whispermen’ in the foreseeable future, as well as the figures in series seven. However I’m glad that the making of figures in continuing, I won’t be buying the figures at the height of 3.75″ due to money spent over the years on the 5″ figures. I just hope that character options change their mind.

On another shelf I’ve got an example of all the different cybermen from the tenth planet to the new ones, I call it my evolution of the cybermen shelf. Similarly the daleks and now each shelf wil stop dead. Small figures will look daft next to them.

I don’t know why folks are complaining about the new 1/18 scale figures. It puts the Doctor and the other characters in scale with Star Wars, G.I. Joe, Marvel and various other character lines. There’s a whole range of diecast vehicles from a variety of manufacturers as well. It essentially increases the play value.
