More Doctor Who Sets Later in the Year

Please note we have been made aware this list is “out of date”, which means some of what you see hear may have changed.

In a year when leaks seem to be in fashion, the USA distributor for Doctor products has gone and sent out emails to multiple addresses with a list of previously unknown figures and sets due later in the year. In the days of social media sadly once its out its out.

Presumably as usual they will be B&M exclusives in the UK apart from it seems the Single carded Blue top 13th Doctor. As they sent out the list we assume these will all be sold in the USA by the new distributor.

There are no pictures and no more information or any hint as to exactly whats in the sets so all you can do is speculate at this stage.

  • Doctor Who – 13th Doctor Action Figure (Blue Top) USA Exclusive.
  • Doctor Who – History of the Daleks Twin Pack A The Chase
  • Doctor Who – History of the Daleks Twin Pack B The Daleks Masterplan
  • Doctor Who – Companions Of the 4th Doctor Set B
  • Doctor Who – Friends and Foes of the 13th Dcotor Set B
  • Doctor Who – 1975 U.N.I.T Terror of the Zygons Set
  • Doctor Who – 5th Dr & Tardis Set – Castrovalva
  • Doctor Who – Ace and Dalek Rocket Launcher Pack
  • Doctor Who – 12th Doctor and Davros

They could make it a ‘Planet of Fire’ set if they included the doctor in his lanzarote shirt with braces and specs and Kamelion (though i dont how they would source that, Maybe Kamelion/Howard). If not the red two piece, they could have in her blouse and red shorts with the trion data core.

Yeah, now ya got me thinking, I wonder why we never got a ‘Papal church attire’ 11th Doctor from ‘Time of the Doctor’ if ya get what I’m referencing… now that would be bold…

    My Predictions:

History of the Daleks #3: Dalek Guard (With no FX) & Mechanus Attack Dalek (Movie Dalek)
(The FX Dalek form The Chase still had a base on him, while the prop did not. Removing this would reveal the inner-workings, but give it more authenticity. The Movie Dalek is easy to construct from other parts.)

History of the Daleks #4: Flame Dalek (Enemies of the First Doctor) & Supreme Dalek (Doctor/ Dalek 2 packs)
(Would be easy to do, seeing they are already released.)

Companions of the 4th Doctor Set B: Pyramids of Mars Sarah, Ribos Operation Romana I & Horns of Nimon Romana II
    (Seems like easy-ish variations.)

Friends and Foes of the 13th Doctor Set B: Captain Jack (Fugitive of the Judoon), Graham repaint & Sacha Dhawan (Spyfall Part 1)
(2 are repaints and one could be mostly a head swap.)

1975 U.N.I.T Terror of the Zygons set: Brigadier in Kilt, 4th Doctor & Benton
(The Doctor is technically U.N.I.T personnel and if possible, you would remove the beret from Benton for a variant.)

5th Doctor and TARDIS Set – Castrovalva: 5th Doctor Regenerated (Castrovalva set)
(I feel the one in the waistcoat was the rarer of the two.)

Ace and Dalek Rocket Launcher Set: Blown up Dalek
(Very rare and is something, at least from my perspective, I would get again even though I have one. People want him and Davros (Emperor) to be rereleased, but if the Dalek line ever gets to Remembrance of the Daleks as set number 14, releasing both together would mean a straight up rerelease of the actual 2-pack and nothing different.)

12th Doctor and Davros: Davros with eyes open?
(Hope not as I need a Davros to replace my original, but it could be done for a variation.)

My predictions are probably wrong, but that’s the fun of this leak, guessing to our hearts content. The only difference from normal is we have guidelines to what’s coming out instead of thinking about a Susan, Ian and Barbara 3-pack.

The “good” thing about this leak is that it doesn’t tell us anything really, just that more sets are coming but it keeps interest alive ( as long as expectations dont get to high!)

Everyone seems to forget K9 is a companion of the 4th Doctor. I would like new releases rather than repaints. I resisted the war, 7th, and 8th Big Finish reruns for this reason.

Sad this got leaked, must be unfortunate for CO, seem to be a lot of leaks with the figure line recently.

Anyway, Imagine the Set Bs are just slight tweaks and repaints, so we might get Yaz and Ryan repainted to look like they are from other stories. Indeed, the Brigadier doesn’t seem to look too different in Terror of the Zygons, though I do wonder what they’ll do for Yates, cause he’s left UNIT at that point. I’ll wait and see, but I don’t think these will interest me.

The Chase and Masterplan B&M Dalek sets are pretty cool. I do somewhat hope that we get a Red Dalek from the cover of the Mutation of Time, but as these sets are more based on the props, I don’t think we will. Still, I’ll probably pick these ones up, can never have too many Daleks.

The other sets are more of interest. There’s another TARDIS and Doctor variant, as seems traditional. Might get it, depends on what the 5th Doctor figure is, hopefully a repainted Regenerated 5 with the updated paint apps of the Thirteen Doctors set 4th Doctor. The Ace and Dalek set is interesting, but as I have the Remembrance Ace already, I think whether I get it will be based on the Dalek. If it’s the SWD, I’ll pass, but if it’s an Imperial, I’m instantly sold. And the 12 and Davros set is something I’m considering, as I already have the Hoodie 12, as well as 2008 Davros, but the latter is quite battered, and I’d like to be able to have a better looking NuWho Davros on display.

So yeah, interesting stuff, will be going even more broke.

Friends and foes of the 13th Doctor set?

Seeing as the recent one was Yaz, Ryan and a Judoon trooper (2 friends and a foe), maybe 2 foes and a friend? Sasha’s Master, Jo Martin’s Ruth and maybe Gat or Grace (Sharon. D. Clarke)

These ‘set B’ products – in most cases, except the 1975 Terror of the Zygons UNIT set – sound very like the now-traditional mid-year ‘tweaks’ range you get around February of the previous Summer’s wave, as a stop-gap until the next Summer’s exclusives. Bear in mind that, this year the Feb 2020 ‘tweak’ wave basically featured very small changes (e.g. the Big Finish/TV Movie 7th Doc swapped the unsmiling hatless head for the smiling hatted one; the War Doctor came with a red waistcoat instead of last year’s brown, and slightly different colour spats on his boots, and the McGann set came with a Dalek with slightly brighter blue bodywork). I hope I’m wrong but the changes will probably be fairly minor.

I mean, don’t get me wrong, i like your three suggestions, but as three all-new characters (and to some degree, sculpts, depending on what they can adapt from elsewhere – maybe the S7 11th’s purple tweed coat for Sasha Dhawan’s Master for example) – that sort of set feels like something they’d save for the main event of a Summer wave release.

My guesses, probably wrong but its a bit of fun and gives us something to look forward to.

Chase Daleks – Would guess at the ‘compass arm/Aridius’ dalek might be a strong contender
DMP – Black and silver, plus a re-release of the flamethrower dalek from the Enemies of the 1st Doctor set
Castrovalva – Would guess at a re-release of the Davison in Jacketless Baker regen figure
Ace & Dalek – Remembrance Ace – re-release and (hopefully) a Remembrance style Imperial dalek.
Companions of the 4th Doctor – Likely released figures in new clothes – Perhaps Leela on a repainted Missy body for a Talons figure?
UNIT Zygons – I’m guessing two classic Zygons and a Brig

And much Kudos to B&M for the continued support of this line.

Anyone reckon we might get a Happiness patrol set in the future, Doc 7 and pink TARDIS? I’m guessing that would be fairly easy for Character?

Such a shame that this has been leaked, ruining what would have been a lovely surprise unveiling later in the year. Harsh, but I hope someone at Amazon gets the chop over this – at the very least the list would have been commercial-in-confidence, so this is potentially a serious legal breach. That said, the range seems to be expanding in all the right directions. At its height, Character Option’s always managed to delight with its schedule of releases, so many unexpected figures (Magnus Greel, Mechonoids, Axons and so on), and it’s great to have that feeling again. But stop the leaks!

      July 29th, 2020 - 1:08pm

Interesting, an important distinction re Amazon. Of course, if the figures are still in pre-production or at the negotiation stage with agents etc, there could be all kinds of other unforeseen legal complications from this … we could potentially lose a figure.

    • Independently Cross

      July 30th, 2020 - 7:14pm

I can understand it feeling nightmarishly disheartening initially- but I genuinely think both ‘leaks’ have been more effective PR than we’ve seen before on the B&M line. Would have been really savvy, if it was intentional. This leak especially (because it’s still got some vague-ness to it- no images, but enough to whet appetites) has created anticipation and discussion I’ve not seen when there’s suddenly a ‘drop’ appearing in less time than you can get together the funds for. It’s certainly not been as divisive as the review items for YouTubers have increasingly become. This time: You still get the big official reveal of images (here, for instance), the official Al/Character video people are getting used to… but prior to that you’ve got people talking in the lulls, which companies pay to encourage/create. More hints and clues and half-details, plus a rough time-frame for release, seems to be a really good strategy to keep the line in people’s consideration. The only problem I can see is tempering expectation from what’s largely the equivalent of the ‘tweaked’ revisions. I think it’s been a really postive thing for Character/B&M/the new international distribution channel.

Is there a reason that 12th Doctor and Ace are listed separately from the other six sets? Is it because the other six are the tweaked wave and the last two are new sets? If so, that may mean the most likely outcome for Companions of the 4th Doctor B is just variants.

Shame it leaked so early but some interesting combinations there. The Dalek History sets are great so looking forward to seeing what’s in those.

Janet Fielding did let it slip that they are doing Tegan and Nyssa figures a wee while ago so it is likely that’s part of the second ‘Companions of the Fourth Doctor’ set.

A ‘tartan’ Fourth Doctor would be great in the Zygons set!

I’m pretty sure that was confirmed to be for Eaglemoss but I suppose there’s a chance something else might happen.

Still it’d be bizarre to include Tegan and Nyssa in a companions of the Fourth Doctor set, but not Adric who’s more worthy of the title and then at that point it’d make more sense as a companions of the Fifth Doctor set.

Nah, I reckon it’ll just be repaints with maybe a variant of a pre-existing figure like Leela or Harry thrown in.

These must be big sellers soon enough to beable to do one or two fresh body sculpts from scratch. This resurgence shows the appetite is still there when those years from when action figure sales were really slumping to now where they seem to have interest european and stateside. Also is this a possibility they can reuse and retool some, if not all, those old character figures rather than just the primeval counterparts?

    Reply
    • Ryan

      July 28th, 2020 - 8:27pm

It’s not necessarily about them being a big seller, it’s what they can do within the budget they’ve got. The only way you’d get completely new sculpts that are only used once would be if the sets were priced higher, which defeats the intention behind B&M stocking these.

I think Character are doing brilliant things with what they can. The UNIT set is very clever; two brand new headsculpts and a generic body that can be used for lots of different things. Similarly, the Fourth & Thirteenth Doctor sets having all new sculpts on existing bodies.

There’s a lot more that can be done with this method and I’m sure we’ll get lots of goodies. Off the top of my head a Kerblam Man seems feasible using the generic body from the UNIT set and a vinyl wraparound torso and the Dhawan Master using the Eleventh Doctor figure.

    • JL

      July 28th, 2020 - 9:06pm

Yes, I so want to see the kerblam men using that method, I think it’s highly achievable and would be a good army builder, it would be cool if they packaged it with a kerblam parcel too!

    • the ergon

      July 28th, 2020 - 10:32pm

I agree its marvellous what they do with existing bodies and headsculpts but its what could be made if they hit a wall and if they feel it could not be reused for certain companions/monsters to achieve something different. For example, a nardole could be reused for another figure of similar size and so on to create like you mentioned, all new figures that have never been achieved but continuing this structured process by diverting some costs. Not yet obviously but if its economically viable further down the line.

1975 U.N.I.T Terror of the Zygons Set – No Dr so possibly another repainted Zygon, Harry in blazer (fom Dalek Sec hybrid?) and existing head. Brig with cap rather than berret. A random private UNIT trooper for army building. A tartan garbed Tom or Brig would of course be excellent.

Companions Of the 4th Doctor Set B – Leela (Weng Chiang) or Sarah (Pyramids) Victorian dress either Gelph Zombie or Idris with a bit more rework but utilising existing heads. Possibly Missy’s attire and hat for Leela as an alternative. Adric from Ood.

Let’s start placing bets now that so many people are going to be so “butt-hurt” and angry when the actual sets get released and they are nothing like some people have envisioned on their head! They personally feel slighted and then just stay hating on n certain sets and figures because they didn’t live up to their own expectations In their heads! The saddest part of them all is people are going to get like this over figures that are still INCREDIBLE and AMAZING!! How quickly people forget that this line was all but dead a few years ago and is still pretty much dead except for these wonderful B & M packs! The entitlement of some of these people just astound me! If you don’t like what’s being made at the moment, why don’t you either:
    1. Get the job at the BBC that says what can be licensed from Doctor Who and then every art that comes out you can like! (That seems fair! ‍♂️)
    2. Win the lottery or do whatever it takes to get a large sum of money So you can have the original Character Options Sculptor who did the Doctor Who line of figures, sculpt any and all of the figures you want for your collection!!
Yes…, sure I jest. But I’ve already started hearing it in forums. People are already getting upset about what’s being released even though they haven’t seen them or even really know anything about them. All they have is what THEY WANT in these sets and they dream big with no thought of how much it costs to produce these sets, so when the sets and/or figures are released, they find nothing but flaws in the figure be cause it’s a
“Re-use” or repaint of a previous figure And all they do is complain to everywhere and anywhere (and always putting there idea of what they wanted done into the complaint so they can feel validated that there set would have been better!).. yes…. if B & M had tons of money and Doctor who was as popular as it was about 4 or 5 years ago, i net we would be seeing some amazing Doctor Who figures and toys but, that being said, look at how much these B & M sets have gotten better through reach release getting to the point where we started getting new sculpts. That’s something to be praised not put down! Anyway, long story short is I HATE LEAKS LIKE THIS, Cause now we get to sit around and listen to what everybody wants and thinks we’ll get but when the sets and figures are released there will be that entitled group That thinks they know better and start saying negative things about the line and that the preverbal Doctor Who sky is falling thus showing to everyone that No matter what’s done. You can never please everyone!

Hard hitting but much of it true, i also hate leaks, it gives to much time for expectations to get out of control but when forums are awash with it we can’t ignore

Some people like to speculate. It’s part of the fun. It doesn’t mean they’re going to get nowty if the sets turn out to be different than they imagined. I don’t think there’s any need to start ragging on posters when the comments have been pretty much excited/enthusiastic so far.

It’s a nice lineup. I think the most interesting will be the UNIT & Thirteenth Doctor sets, as they’ve got the potential to have a new figure in or a different lineup. I’m thinking the tartan Fourth Doctor for the UNIT set and potentially a different lineup for the Thirteenth Doctor; Graham, Jack and the Kerblam Man would be feasible. Graham in the more iconic brown jacket, a re-release of Jack and the Kerblam Man can be done using the UNIT bodies. I think that’s quite a savvy idea of Character’s and will hopefully bring us some more figures that we thought we’d never get.

A Tardis Set based on Castrovalva… maybe a post-regeneration 5th Doctor rerelease, like the one from the original Castrovalva set!!! Hopefully!!!

That’s what I’m hoping! That’s one of the few variants I don’t have.

No! I have and it is the comic con version. At least I hope it is clearly distinguishable
