Who let the dog out? Humanity’s best friend K9 gets a complete 21st Century makeover as he wags his way into his own TV series.

Voiced by actor John Leeson, he was first introduced to viewers in the DR WHO story arc, “The Invisible Enemy ” (1977), which starred Tom Baker as the Fourth Doctor and Louise Jameson as Leela traveling to Saturn’s moon Titan.

Since then he has been an enduring (and endearing) companion over many years to several Doctors, including David Tennant in “School Reunion” (2006) and again in “Journey’s End” (2008) together with Elisabeth Sladen as Sarah Jane Smith. With Sladen he also appeared in the two spin-off series K-9 AND COMPANY (1981) and THE SARAH JANE ADVENTURES (2007 – present).

The new TV series K9 is created by Bob Baker and Paul Tams and started airing on UK terrestrial TV in December, 2010.

Originally created by Bob Baker and Dave Martin, K9 is a brave and sensitive character, often sacrificing himself to help save his “Master.”

Now you get to be his master and take him home to look after him in the shape of this highly detailed and hand-painted resin figurine produced with the co-operation and help of the creators. Isn’t that a great idea, K9? “AFFIRMATIVE!” 4″ poly-resin figurine in full colour packaging

A side by side comparison shot of the two K9 models…

A comparison shot with a 5″ figure…

It looks good with the CO figures. K-9 fits quite well. It’s a bit heavier than I expected. Will there be more produced?

When this figurine was first announced, I thought it was actually 4″ tall , so I wasn’t bothered about it. I am now tempted to get one, but they have probably all sold out.

Finally, the news of this thing has been up for ages now, and it’s pointless really it’s for an australian spin off show that’s not really good, well atleast I don’t think so.

BTW I have that Doctor figure, it’s awesome. Had to buy a new crash set of ebay after finding out the blue variant will not be released in a fabled “11 Doctors toys R us special edition”. 😛

Australia deserves a Doctor Who Spin off, as long as its brilliant. I only watched one K-9 epi, but it wasn’t very good, but maybe if I watched more it would change my mind. (I doubt it through)

I don’t bother with anything to do with this K9 as I don’t view that series as a Doctor Who spin-off, just something best ignored, cos for one thing, it’s not even made by the BBC like the other spin-off shows, and this K9 surely can’t be the mark 1 as he was with Leela and must have stayed with her on Gallifrey even during the Time War, not leave her to face curtain doom at the hands of the Daleks and bugger off to Australia with a redesign, plus Ive seen some videos of the show on YouTube and I can honestly say it’s really REALLY bad 😛

I quite liked it and it is K9 Mk1 which is shown at the beginning of episode one.

      I hope we a get a series 2

i like it too. *SPOILER to the book The Gallifrey Chronicles* the theory i read on how he got to be what was in the show is that after he was broken in the Gallifrey Chronicles and Leela refused to fix him, the Time Lords fixed him anyway and put in a regeneration circuit. Then the episode explains the rest.
