Illustrated Doctor Who: Rose Hardcover

Available to order from www.forbiddenplanet.com and www.amazon.co.uk

To celebrate the return of the show-runner Russell T Davies to Doctor Who, as well as the 60th anniversary of the show, a special illustrated edition of Rose – the story that relaunched Doctor Who for the 21st century, novelised by Russell from his original script.

‘Nice to meet you, Rose. Run for your life!’

In a lair somewhere beneath central London, a malevolent alien intelligence is plotting the end of humanity. Shop window dummies that can move – and kill – are taking up key positions, ready to strike. Rose Tyler, an ordinary Londoner, is working her shift in a department store, unaware that this is the most important day of her life.

She’s about to meet the only man who understands the true nature of the threat facing Earth, a stranger who will open her eyes to all the wonder and terror of the universe – a traveller in time and space known as the Doctor.

Rose is the story that brought Doctor Who back for the 21st century – and Russell T Davies’s novelisation, based on his script, set the standard for new-era Target novelisations. Now, with illustrations by acclaimed artist Robert Hack – this is Rose as you’ve never seen it before…

Just had my copy delivered – the title Rose isn’t actually on the sleeve. Is that normal?

    A disappointing choice personally.

I would love it to have been something like Doctor Who and the Cave Monsters or something a little different like The Myth Makers.

Last years hardback of The Daleks was wonderful. Something to really treasure.

A lot of the old classics have been done to death, it’s nice to see a reprint of a newer novel!

That’s probably true, but now The Myth Makers has been suggested that seems a perfect choice. The missing episodes would all do well to be fair.

I am bitter this isn’t the Cave Monsters and not convinced this particular story (as much as I like it) really lends itself to these deluxe retro illustrated volumes but cover looks great!

These just aren’t for me. I have the target novels and the price of these, great though they look, is too much. I can get several other books for the price of these. I’m not against them though, I’m sure others will love them. But in this time of restricted budgets I have to choose between getting new books or getting reprints and this falls outside the category of reprints for me being to expensive. Do have to agree with some that this feels like an odd choice. It’s good but there are so many out of print target books that this feels a bit odd.

Wait, is this based on the TV episode or the target novel but with pictures now?

This sounds potentially fascinating. I loved the novelisation as a glimpse into a sort of alternate timeline and hope this book can continue that feel.

If it does return to a Saturday I expect the first special on the 11th November. This means the final one will show on the 25th so will at least be on the week of the 60th Anniversary.

Nah. Not interested in this. The first three yes. But reboot stuff. No. What a poor choice for the second release.

It’s actually not a poor choice just because some rando doesn’t like it. That’s not how it works

Oh Brilliant, I expected it to be A 60s story novel, possibly Dalek Invadion of Earth.

A missing story might have been nice, one the DVD/Blu Ray have said would be difficult and Time Consuming. Both word that lead to the word Expensive.

But Rose is just as inspired, even if it is widely Available in full colour(As is the Daleks for that matter)

Nice to see the 9th Doctor get some love too.

The Daleks Illustrated is Superb in both Quality and Art.
