Figurine Collection Magazine Companion Set #12

This companion box-set in our fantastic Doctor Who Figurines Collection unites the Third Doctor with the members of the UNIT – Jo Grant, Brigadier and Benton.

In his third incarnation, the Doctor (played by Jon Pertwee) was exiled to 20th-century Earth by his fellow Time Lords. Dashing and distinguished, this Doctor was a master of Venusian aikido with a fondness for fast cars, and joined the Unified Intelligence Taskforce – or UNIT – as a scientific advisor, to better defend Earth from an alien invasion.

The Third Doctor was joined by his outspoken and enthusiastic lab assistant Jo Grant, as well as the aggressive Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart – or simply “The Brigadier”, and the reliable, unshakeable Sergeant Benton.
The Doctor and the Brigadier often clashed over the latter’s preference for military force over peaceful solutions, but eventually developed genuine and mutual respect.

Oh yes, going straight to the front of the cabinet. Did Eaglemoss ever do bok the little gargoyle from daemons. He needs to be across from the brigadier. Chap with the wings five rounds rapid. Best line ever written.

I think I’ve got that set in the loft. I didn’t get Eaglemoss in the beginning because I was getting all the character figures and had no space. Then they all but stopped 5inch scale so I reappraised and started Eaglemoss then b and m brought the 5inchers back by which time I had moved house and found that I wasn’t allowed to “clutter up everywhere with toys” to quote my better half. So I have one cupboard and Eaglemoss wins because I can fit more in.

Having to make xhoices I’m in a position also were everywhere (I can use is full up) nowhere to put anything else. But I still keep buying stuff

There’s something about sci-fi appreciation and completism. I feel the need to get the b & m sets deep in my dna but they’d go straight in the loft so I resist, and the loft is getting full too. Really was tempted by the Unit set which is why this offering by Eaglemoss is so welcome.

I always think if they aren,t displayed and given pride of place or played with, its a case of ‘Right i,ve got them, now what? If they are going to just be stuffed into some dusty old attic where they never see the light of day, they serve no purpose. Its just aquisition for somebody elses benefit in the future. Its that’ i,ve got to get it’ mentality but once the buzz has gone its ‘stick it with the rest of them’.

Wonderful! I kind of feel bad for everyone at Eaglemoss, though, considering that Character just beat them out on these.

If these had come out last year, I’d have been jumping at the chance.
I have neither the shelf space nor the money for doubles.

Still, great work! And thanks for giving us what we want!

I have to say that I am excited by this set. As I have said when I saw it on Facebook, I was only expecting Pertwee to be with only Jo and as much as I am excited by a Jo Grant figurine, it is so much more pleasing to also have the Brig and Benton. All 4 figurines look lovely, even if Jo’s face is a little off.

Since I haven’t yet ordered the third Time Lord Victorious set, I will wait till this is available and buy them together.

And I forgot to give a massive thank you again to everyone at Eaglemoss for this and everything this year. A wonderful mixture of eras too. Fingers crossed for Styggron. But I am already so chuffed with the Mandrel, Nimon and others that I would not be disappointed if it never happens.

I’m hoping for a 5th Dr, Tegan, Nyssa, and Adric from any of his first season. Colin might have to be a Trial themed set with Peri, Mel, and Dr 6 in Vervoid alternative costume, with perhaps Glitz who was a semi companion this season.

    • JL

      October 13th, 2020 - 7:34pm

I wonder if we’ll get some sets from doctors who’ve already had companion sets like the 2 8th doctor sets, if so I’d love to see:
1, vicki and Steven (time meddler)
Post regen 2, Ben and polly (power of the daleks episode 1)
3, liz shaw and yates (all together in the five doctors)
4 and leela (horror of fang rock)
5, adric nyssa and tegan (visitation)
5, turlough and kamelion (planet of fire)
6, peri and mel (trial of a timelord)
9 and rose (fathers day, I’d quite like a rose figurine from her time as a regular companion)
10, Martha and Donna perhaps with wilf too(stolen earth or end of poison sky)
11 and Rory (let’s kill Hitler)
12 and Clara (face the raven)
12 and Nardole (the doctor falls)

      October 13th, 2020 - 8:17pm

You’ll probably have a good chance at getting all those JL.
I’ve a gut feelings these box sets will carry on even if the main collection finishes.

      October 13th, 2020 - 10:23pm

You’re right Phillip, I was was wondering how would do a 6th Doctor variation. That 5th set would be one probably, although I don’t know how different his costume is from the regular range version.

That’s a great list JL, would love a Rose series 1 version. Also maybe you could have a four figure set of 10th, Wilf, Donna and Martha from End Of Time, although suppose the latter two won’t be in their regular costume. Rory too! Can’t believe he got missed out when he’s in that story they used to reference. Would need so much money for all these!

    • the ergon

      October 14th, 2020 - 8:34am

You could have 6th trailing his coat walking through the no options kill center from Varos or in his waist coat from The two doctors also you could have him with his colourful umbrella from The Mysterious planet. I think for 5th they should just run with the original TARDIS team outfits to begin with. There are a few optional variants where they are concerned.

    Lovely set I think!

Always been very fond of ‘Day of the Daleks’…one of my very earliest ‘Who’ memories is the ‘mind probe’ cliffhanger. Poses are great on the figurines and will sit very nicely with the Gold Dalek and Ogron.

Once again hope this collection runs and runs.

On a different note I saw Ben Robinson was saying they had been looking at how they might do a Rutan figurine and I was wondering if anyone at Eaglemoss had looked at the old Harlequin gaming figure range? Some of them were great although on a much smaller scale. Their Shrivenzale was fantastic and they did a reasonable Rutan! There’s a ‘Mini Terror’ version too!

Most of us, hopefully the majority, really appreciate the hard work you all put into this collection over there at eaglemoss. So much gratitude and gratefulness.

Judging by the size of the Jo figurine and her face it seems like the Doctor has had a mishap trying to repair the TARDIS causing Jo to regress to be a young girl.
I will still order the set when available as the other 3 are all up to usual high standard.

The last ‘dud’ face was that of the First doctor in one of the few occasions this has occured in these companions sets.
