just picked up most of wave 3: the eight doctor, ninth doctor and eleventh doctor sonic screwdrivers for £3.99 in ASDA. Is that a good price to pay?

Recently I’ve wanted to get a classic sonic screwdriver, but I can’t decide. Should I get the wave 1 Fourth Doctor’s sonic, or wave 2 Fifth Doctor’s sonic? I’m a big fan of both, especially season 18 4th Doctor, and I can’t decide.

Hi guys, just picked up the Wave 2 10th Dr Sonic. I had thought for quite some time that the 10th dr had the same Sonic throughout since 9 (so I thought the 10th was just a repackaged version and skipped to 11 (Matt’s) then).

Can someone tell me, as the 10th Dr sonic I own has 4 sound FX. And it’s been said 2 are classic who sounds, what does each sound represent. I get them as props and as such I always note e.g. sound 1=scanning, 2=hacking/lockpicking etc.
What are the 2 classic FX used for?

I REALLY want them to release a 2nd Doctor sonic, a Re release of the Sonic Lipstick, a Sonic Blaster , and the Dark Eyes Sonic. They released an eighth doctor comic figure so I don’t see why they can’t release a big finish sonic.

Can anyone confirm whether or not there is some kind of indication on the packaging about the sounds?

I just bought what appears to be a Wave 2 10th Doctor Sonic on Amazon (since BBC is sold out). All the reviews agree that it has a blue LED instead of the UV light (and no pen attachment) but the reviews are half and half on the sounds(some say it makes 2 sounds, others say 4).

I’m just wondering if there will be a way for me to tell before tearing the package open in case I need to return it.

Wait, how come some versions of the 3rd and 4ths screwdrivers come with 4 sound effects, when others come with 2? I have seen reviews of all the releases of the screwdrivers, and they all have different sound effects.

At one point they put a different soundchip into all the sonics (including the 10th and War Doctor’s). Donno why. It’s not marked on the packaging or anything, seems totally random.

      February 6th, 2014 - 8:11pm

So it’s rolling a dice on weather you get a certain sound chip or not? 🙁 I really wanted the one that came with 4 sounds but it only came with 2!

I’ve heard rumors that the Wave 2 release of the 10th Doctor’s sonic, comes with a blue LED instead of a purple UV LED, and that the black cap at the end is permenately glued into place.

    Is that true?

I know its not on this page but how do you know when a 3rd doctor sonic has classic sounds? I’ve heard that there are some from the re-release that have ‘The Sea Devils’ and ‘Inferno’ sounds.

    • GallifreyanKnight

      February 5th, 2014 - 9:43pm

      @TheBritishCupOfTea,
      That is technically not true.

I got my 3rd Doctor sonic when Wave 1 first hit the shops, and it only has Tennant-Era sounds.

    • Balakin

      February 6th, 2014 - 12:59pm

I think now all the 4th and 3rd sonics should have the classic sounds, the previous releases should be sold out now.

    • GallifreyanKnight

      February 6th, 2014 - 2:41pm

Balakin, I wasn’t talking about the versions of the 3rd and 4th Doctor sonics that were exclusive to Forbidden Planet a few years back.

I was talking about the Wave 1 rereleases from last year.

I bought both my 3rd and 4th Doctor sonics when Wave 1 first came out. They only have Tennant-Era sounds.

And I know for a fact that I’m not the only one that had that problem.

    • ZygonTerror

      February 6th, 2014 - 3:47pm

Just sharing my experience today. I bought one of the re-releases of the 3rd doctor sonics from wave 1 and it didn’t have classic sounds which was unfortunate but I really like Jon Pertwee and his Doctor so I’ll make do.

    • Balakin

      February 6th, 2014 - 4:59pm

GallifreyanKnight: I know, I was talking about the 2013 releases. I bought my 4th sonic in October and it has the classic sounds too but my friend’s 3rd sonic has just the modern sounds and she bought it in august. I thought the first wave of WAVE 1 sould out by september and they made some new ones but with different sound chips, but it seems that it’s not the case judged by ZygonTerror’s comment above me.
