My opinions on this set and the price have changed. Even if we only get the Twelfth Doctor’s head, the fact we are even getting a 5″ Capaldi is a wonder at all. I also am really looking forward to seeing the new accessories (mainly Handles). The box sounds very artistic, and I’m looking forward to displaying my 7B Doctor along with my other Eleventh Doctor figures.

It will definitely just be the waistcoat that is removable.

Just pre-ordered this. I agree its expensive but if its the cheapest way to get it in the UK then I accept that. Hopefully the set is as good as shown in the promo images (which im sure it will be a the winston churchill figure is amazing and the promos for it didn’t do the set justice)

probably as FP help fund them or agree to take so many in turn for an exclusive

BBST have just put this up for $39.99 so looks like the initial USA price might be wrong

there are a few more in the states but then its not exclusive to anyone over there

I’d like to buy a few, which can work out cheaper as opposed to buying just one. I bought some Other Doctor figures from America that worked out at a good price, and with the price difference between the countries on this one, it might make it cheaper.

After careful consideration and thought I decided to email Forbidden Planet and cancel my preorder for this figure ? After all the war doctor came with a couple of accessories and was only £15? No £30 is way too much to pay for this and I will go into my locaL Forbidden Planet Store to have a look before I even consider shelling out such a ridiculous price for this figure.

its a sad state of affairs when people start cancelling orders over the price

I think people would be a lot happier if they were actually given an explanation and better still show them the full set

I’m sure when we see the box and all the accessories it will somehow make us feel better

    • Melkur

      July 11th, 2014 - 1:13pm

It would be nice if FP.com had this up for preorder too, just to create a bit of competition(maybe encourage a little price drop). Right now, FPI has a complete monopoly over this set in the UK, and it may be the reason why they are charging more.

Also, i’d love to know if Popcultcha in Australia will get this too, and the price they will charge.

    • booboo

      July 11th, 2014 - 1:16pm

yes i have been waiting to what this is in Australia – problem is unlike the war doctor its will be above the import duty level so you could get stung in the UK

FP have put stuff up at a later date but i doubt there will be any price difference if they do

      July 11th, 2014 - 1:31pm

      July 11th, 2014 - 2:52pm

You’ve got to think of it from business’s prospective.. think of the amount of money that are put into one of these figures, You’ve got to include the machines, computers, paint and many other things that are included in this kind of profession. They have to create thousands of these and ship them to other country’s around the world just for your need, there are probably thousands going into this one figure. CO are only trying to earn there money back if they weren’t they would go bankrupt and close down then there would be no more Dw figures.

    • booboo

      July 11th, 2014 - 3:50pm

all true but its not CO its Underground Toys risk and none of that explains the price difference

The USA price however seems to be slowly increasing at retailers

Apparently the reason this set is so expensive is its a US exclusive only and FPI have to import it. Diamond distributors are listing it at $35.00=£20.43 where Entertainment Earth are listing it as $37.99=£22.17.

    • Anon

      July 11th, 2014 - 12:34pm

$38 / 1.6 (to give the exchange) x 1.2 to give you vat:

      £28.50.

There price is not that far different.

    • booboo

      July 11th, 2014 - 12:37pm

but local sales tax is included in the USA price

its till much cheaper in the states (and so is ace which people dont seem to be noticing £14.50 as opposed to £20

also, FP are showing a £3 discount

    • Anon

      July 11th, 2014 - 12:51pm

It may appear cheaoer in the US, but the point is, once you add VAT to the base price (and we can’t avoid tax can we?) the price is very similar.

US price might include local tax but they usually don’t do they? Isn’t sales tax added at the till?

    • booboo

      July 11th, 2014 - 12:56pm

still doesn’t explain the big difference especially as there has never been such a price gap between previous sets – sales tax is never added to on-line prices that i have ever seen

going on past items there should be at most a 15% price gap

      UK rrp £33 = $56

      USA rrp + $35

      that’s a 40% difference

    • Chris

      July 11th, 2014 - 1:32pm

I did a calculation of the cost of importing one from the US, with delivery and import duty it would cost over £40 for 1 figure, FPI is still cheaper even at the price listed

    • Anon

      July 11th, 2014 - 2:16pm

The perceived difference is being exaggerated by the unusually high pound at the moment.

If you use a more normal rate of $1.55 or 1.60 to the pound and once you add 20% to the US price (to take into account VAT in the UK). The difference is about 15%

    • booboo

      July 11th, 2014 - 2:31pm

still to much, its got the same base price out of china so even allowing for all factors its still wrong

  • Anonymous

    July 10th, 2014 - 11:03pm

    Pre-ordered. 🙂 Whilst doing so I forgot about the P&P cost of £3.50. 🙁 So, that’s £33.49 altogether for 1 figure and 6 accessories. :O

    • Judooning

      July 10th, 2014 - 2:01pm

What I think we need to do is wait for this new Asylum set to go up on order. If the price has also increased on that (based on 2 standard figures and 1 FX figure) then we know hey have raised the price on all figures as that set would be distributed for the UK.

    • booboo

      July 10th, 2014 - 2:05pm

that’s supposed to be a toys r us set

interestingly one retailer has that up for pre order in the USA for $62 – that’s £36

      it has a RRP of $75 that’s £43

I dont think it will be that expensive here

    • DoctorArkham

I think its trying (I’m going to put a LOT of emphasis on that) to match the price tag in the US of $37.99 which is£22.18 in Britain. So really its not much cheaper if you think about it, and if you order from the States you’ll get taxed and held at customs! So you could be paying up to £40 in the USA if you think about it, and we’re SLIGHTLY better off. I think.

I can’t believe they wouldn’t include a second body for that price. Hell, it might be cheaper to buy from an American website even with the import costs (not to mention less risky, last time I bought with FPi they changed my order on the basis that they wanted to change something with the details because they’d sold out quicker than expected, so resold the ones they’d already taken my money for before even giving a refund, as well as sending my order at an increased postage charge as they forgot to deduct it).

    America seems safer and cheaper.

Luckily, I have my birthday (ironically when Doctor who series 8 starts) so I think my parents may get it for me. But I can’t over the price for this, it’s ridiculous!!!! I really hope this is just an error and will be corrected soon. But I can see where CO are coming from they have to sculpt about 10 new pieces for this (12th Doctor, Aged Doctor, Handels, 2 waistcoats, a main body piece to fit matts legs, a new coat, two new arms and possibly a new sonic closed) but I think all that for £15 is outrageous though.

If the price discrepancy between the UK and the US is accurate that’s appalling. Why is the show’s domestic audience paying through the nose for an item designed and co – produced by a UK company, when overseas fans are getting it for considerably less?

I expect to pay more these days for figures and models aimed primarily at an American customer base, but British fans having to pay over the odds for DW merch is just *wrong*. The BBC shhould really try to prevent this sort of thing from happening.

Glad I decide to pass on this item now.

I agree with most people that the price is a bit much, but at the end of the day its a collectors item! There are other collector figures that are double if not more than this! With similar features! Plus if people wait and dont get it, it will only go on ebay at double/triple the price, so i say get it whilst its cheap (ish)!
