Demon Records presents the narrated TV soundtrack of Doctor Who: The Underwater Menace
Demon Music Group presents The Underwater Menace, the fifth serial in the fourth season of Doctor Who, starring Patrick Troughton as the Doctor. The soundtrack will be released on 29th May and is available now for pre-order.
Released on 2 x 140g ‘Volcanic Eruption’ vinyl:
In The Underwater Menace the TARDIS arrives on a volcanic island above the lost city of Atlantis. The Doctor learns of Professor Zaroff’s insanely dangerous plan to raise the city of Atlantic from the depths of the sea once more. Whilst Ben and Jamie are put to work in the mines, and Polly is set to be transformed into one of the strange, enslaved Fish People, the Doctor must do everything he can to prevent Zaroff causing the end of the world.
This half missing serial only survives in full on audio, giving fans a unique opportunity to reexperience this lost part of Doctor Who’s expansive history.
Presented across 2 x 140g vinyl discs, this 1967 TV soundtrack is narrated by Anneke Wills, who co-stars with Michael Craze and Frazer Hines as the Doctor’s companions Polly, Ben and Jamie. Among the supporting cast are Joseph Furst, Colin Jeavons, Paul Anil and Noel Johnson (radio’s Dick Barton). Incidental music is composed by Dudley Simpson, and the familiar strains of the Doctor Who theme are courtesy of the BBC Radiophonic Workshop.
The coloured vinyl LPs are presented in a fully illustrated gatefold sleeve showing cast and credits, with inner bags featuring complete episode billings.

April 15th, 2020 - 8:25amInteresting that they have slightly cut the quality spec for this one – the previous releases have all been 180gsm (aka ‘heavyweight’) vinyl discs. You can still get very good sound at 140gsm though, it’s not exactly flimsy. I wonder if that is a cost saving measure given the current situation? I also wonder if this splatter version is again going to be amazon exclusive and if there will be a ‘standard’ all-retailers edition too (usually a solid colour)?

April 14th, 2020 - 9:13pmDid anyone here actually manage to order this? I’ve got all the range so far and I’m very disappointed I missed this – is there any chance that it could be a fault on Amazon’s part as there was no statement of the release being limited like previous set variants in the press release?

April 14th, 2020 - 9:46pmno, it was up for order for 30 mins but then another stupid situation where press releases are issued but you can’t order it, and then they wonder why sales are poor.
I email Zoom a while ago on this issue for a good sales opportunity and they couldn’t be bothered with it

April 14th, 2020 - 9:51pmDo you think it will become available again at all? Thank you for responding btw I’m just very upset to see all this being mishandled for what should be another wonderful release.

April 15th, 2020 - 7:34amyes definitively, i just wish zoom / zavvi would put it up for order to coincide with the press release.

April 14th, 2020 - 8:53pmDid anyone actually manage to get this? I’ve invested a lot of money into these releases getting every one so far so I’m gutted to see this gone so quickly – surely this is an issue on amazons part because it wasn’t even stated to be a numbered limited edition like previous releases?

April 14th, 2020 - 8:14pmIt’s not a great story but honestly I prefer this story to the faceless ones which is a good story

April 14th, 2020 - 8:49pmIt’s a funny thing but I don’t think either of those are good stories. But menace and faceless are still very watchable (or listenable, whatever…) I still enjoy them, troughton and his team tardis are just so good that it makes the stories fun to watch.

April 14th, 2020 - 6:35pmGreat if you don’t have the CD version. You can use the vinyl to find out what’s happening in the DVD reconstruction!

April 14th, 2020 - 7:45pmPlease don’t remind me of that nightmare. When watching this story I restarted after watching a bit of episode 1 on the BBC DVD because it was so unclear with the pictures they used.
That one picture of Polly’s face was used for too much of the first episode! :'(

April 15th, 2020 - 12:12amI just play the CD as the pictures change, it’s not ideal but it’s better than the unnarrated soundtrack
SilentNinjaZero
April 16th, 2020 - 7:19amI watch the Loose Canon recons instead. They are available online. It might be annoying to switch between them and the DVD but they are far better than the BBC versions. To think they were going to be animated :'(
